The moon passes through the shadow of the earth during a total lunar eclipse on Wednesday Feb. 20, 2008. Though the Earth blocks direct sun from reaching the moon, some sunlight filters through the Earth's atmosphere and creates this reddish glow.

It'd be cool to stand on the moon during an eclipse like this with the surrounding moonscape glowing red. I wonder if you'd be able to see the lights from Earth's cities, since the sun would be obscured.
