The silhouetted climber at the top of the silo is a nice touch. The photographer exercised patience and attention to detail - not easy in single-digit temperatures.

Silhouetted by a moonlit cloud, Josh Anderson, from Kirksville, Mo., swings his axe into the ice before reaching the summit during the competition while Mike Bowen, of Brentwood, Tenn., works for a foothold. Anderson placed third in the Men's Flight One division with a time of 4:23. Each climber attempted two ascents, with the fastest climbers reaching the summit in under five minutes.
