Children enjoy themselves at the Taipei Water Park on July 4. The temperature of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit recorded in Taipei on Saturday afternoon was this year's highest.

Outtake from The Week in Pictures

As we edit The Week in Pictures each Thursday, we look for images that are great photographs as well as those that cause a visceral reaction. For me, this sweet image made me laugh each time I came across it, but photographically, it didn't hold up to the several other "summer fun" images we had to choose from, and it didn't make the final edit for July 1 - 8. See the final edit of the slideshow here.

Would you have included this image? Which image do you like best this week, and why?

Slip Sliding Away.

I voted for "Endless Summer", but others were a close second, such as the Leaping Bull, the Highwire Act, and the Crowded Pool. This shots fun and has good composition, color and repetition.

Please, oh great weather gods, stop the fog in SB.

I voted for Canonball. It just made me smile. I could vote for the obvious. But that's too easy. I vote for the photos that cause a visceral reaction in me. And sometimes it ends up being the most popular. But not always.
I don't think I would have voted for this one. It's lovely, but even I could get this with Lola.

I like genuine spontaneous smiles. They don't seem too common these days.

What a fun picture! these kids were having a blast and who could blame them :) I couldn't help but noticing though that they are probably from a economically advantaged family. They are definitely on the well padded side. Also, a different picture on MSNBC recently showed a pool so crowded with Chinese trying to escape the opressive heat that there was not a spec of water visible. These children are sliding down the slide alone.
