A South Korean elementary school student shouts as she lays in the mud while performing an exercise during a summer military camp for kids at the Cheongryong Self-denial Training Camp on Daebu Island in Ansan, southwest of Seoul, South Korea, Thursday, July 15, 2010. One-hundred fifty-six kids took part in the three-day camp to strengthen themselves mentally and physically.

Next time my kid writes from camp that he's not having fun, I'll send him these photos to look at. I have a feeling he has it a bit easier.

While I served in the Army I met a man who'd been through Special Forces school, Delta Force selection, Ranger school, and the South Korean ranger school. He said the last one was by far the toughest and most frightening. He lost a toe and a fingertip during training; two guys in the company died.

I would not subject my children to this. When our country was not the "whining whoa is me pussies" (and by the way, it's "woe", not "whoa") that you speak of, did we send our children to places like this? Of course not.

Uh, yea we do, there are many military summer camps in the U.S. I've seen many kids that need to go to camps like this to instill discipline in their nasty bodies. People like you, Rassmuss S., are the reason we are living in a weak and obese society. Man up, and grow some dude eggs, and for god sake take some initiative and responsibility for your children and yourself. The better you raise your children, the better off in life they will be.

I'm an American English teacher in South Korea. Some of my students who attend the camps come back so excited, and proud of how strong they've become. The kids are fed, cared for and attend the camps by choice. Or, at least all of mine did. Korean children have their own national holiday. These are NOT abused children. It sure beats teaching unmotivated, obese, whiny kids and their Purell wielding parents back in the states.

I wonder if after rolling in the mud for a few days if their skin became soft and healthy looking?

I think military school camps for kids are very helpful for the children as it educate them about military standards. These military schools provide tutoring programs at very low cost. Teenagers having financial issues can also apply for these accredited military programs. Thanks for giving the information about summer camp programs for teenagers.
