This one-meter ground resolution satellite image shows a portion of Risalpur, located on the Kabul River in the Nowshera District in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province about 45 km from Peshawar. The image was taken on Aug. 6, 2009, almost one year before Risalpur experienced historic flooding in late July and early August 2010. This image could be used by humanitarian agencies and first responders to plan post-flooding relief and evacuation activities by comparing "before" imagery to detect changes to the landscape and infrastructure. The IKONOS satellite took this image from 423 miles in space as it moved from north to south over Pakistan at a speed of four miles per second.

This half-meter ground resolution satellite image shows a portion of Risalpur, located on the Kabul River in the Nowshera District in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province about 45 km from Peshawar. The image was collected on Aug. 5, 2010 after Risalpur experienced historic flooding and shows the coastline and town covered in mud and water. According to news reports, this area of Pakistan hasn't seen such flooding since 1929. The floods have collectively killed an estimated 1,500 people in Pakistan, affected 4.2 million people and displaced millions from their homes. The GeoEye-1 satellite took this image from 423 miles in space as it moved from north to south over Pakistan at a speed of four miles per second.

Pakistan floods: Before and after from outer space

Though dated as early as 2007 and as only as recently as August 5, 2010, these are new to us.

This is a new perspective on the tragedy we've been seeing largely through pictures from the ground.

Sorry I couldn't get perfect crop alignment on the tight shots from GEOEYE, the third and fourth pictures in this post--I'm working on a laptop in a conference center in Redmond, WA, missing my 30" monitor, and wanted to get this out quickly instead of perfectly.

Editor's note: There was an error due to haste in the picture credits as well. As originally posted, the GEOEYE pictures were incorrectly credited to DigitalGlobe. That has been corrected. For more information, see the GEOEYE site here. See more pictures from DigitalGlobe here.

What is a Muslim. It is a pure example of an occult gone unchecked, much like Jim Jones, in the Jones Town hell trap. Over a billion people have been ensnared in this blind hate filled group. Much like how many Christian were with the Catholic Church. Until the governments of the free world, chose to separate church and state. Then and only then did the free Christian began to flourish as a people and worship God in a truer form. There are still pockets of Christian organizations in America ensnaring hard working people into bondage. They are still leading many people down a blind path.

I, at one time was one of those people. I got caught up in a church that required all of its members to attend service 6 day a week, no TV, radio, or music that was of the world and yes I did read my Bible, with limited understanding. Religion pounded in my head, with the focus on fear God. Just one example: One young lady plucked out one of her eyes because she sinned with her eyes. This Church did not believe in Bible College, it called Bible Seminary, Bible cemetery, meaning that after you leave the Seminary your spirit is dead. That is why I referred to the blind leading the blind, much like in the Islamic faith.

Twenty years ago I had an Iranian, college roommate, and as a new Christian, and as a man with an open mind, I thought it would be good to learn about him and his Islamic faith. But this man who prayed every morning before the sun came up and before the sun went down know nothing of his Koran. He was just another foul praying to the East and chanting without understanding.

I look at Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan and those countries are a pure example of the blind leading the blind. Most of the people are still living as they lived ten thousand years ago, just because of the Islamic trap.

After I broke away from my old church it took me almost four years to feel free to worship as I was meant to worship. As a free man, with the freedom to love God and all that he has created.

People please don’t hate the Muslims people, because they are a trapped people, enslaved by an evil master, whom only seeks power and control.

      Kingrat,

thank you for sharing your heart... Please be aware that there are many , even here on the newsvine who will sneer at what you're sharing, and satan would like to use them yo discourage you and tear you down.

But I know what you are saying and where you are comming from. To be a true Christian and to not let the spirit of the world, which has swallowed up even many Christian Churches today, it often means to live very lonely life, but we know that our Lord said it would be so. But although we may be lonely, we are not alone, and the love of truth will give us strength and sustain us.

I've seen the picture slides of devastation those floods caused in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and my heart goes out to those people. We know that even the earth is travailing for the evil that's walking upon it in these times, but we also know that Jesus said "when you see those things happening, look up, for your redemption is nigh".
We will still see many sorrows before our Lord comes after the Great Tribulation of the end days, but we know when He comes, He will wipe away all tears from our eyes.

I pray that many of those who are suffering now and are counted as a refuse in the earth, will come to know Him, who is the hope of the hopeless and our blessed Redeemer, Christ, Lord Yeshua, our coming King!

Any chance the floods will flush out Osama Bin Laden?

Maybe that is why Allah flooded your country. he wants you to give him up.

Here is an opportunity for us to actually help a mideastern nation instead of making war zones out of them!

I think we should help them, but so did the medical team that went out to serve the poor and sick in Afghanistan. They were murdered ruthlessly, even betrayed by those whom they helped by giving them a ride in their vehicles. Sadly, I have to say, that helping many of those people will not make them our friends.

However we still should do as much as possible to help them. But this country is very quick to help others, while there are suffering people in this country due to neglect, and injustice going rampant in this country. We desperately need balance here!

Must be terrible to be in Pakistan right now.

Small quibble with web editor(s) on the headline: outer space, as opposed to ... inner space?

Poor Pakistan, take their money they spent on nukes and they could have prepared for floods. Why not some pictures of North Dakota, Iowa and even flash floods in Arizona?

Joe, what are you talking about?! Can't you tell that although the roofs of the houses are seen, the houses are flooded ?! They didn't show the whole area. Go and see slide pics of devastation, that will convince you... or will it?

Would be a good time to go ahead and nuke the place, hire Haliburton to rebuild it and punch for the oil that is surely underneath there.

This has always been a @!$%#hole of humanity, festering misery.

No help, Eddie, for our people.... The Health Insurance premiums going up, jobs scarce to find, and those that are out there are payed low because, when tings are rough, employers know they have their choices, and people have none. Those who put themselves thru school can't even find a job...

Medical care is being denied to many who still work, but make above "poverty line", yet can't afford Ins premiums..... People disabled, like yourself, and all doors closed in the face..... That's reality for many in this country.

The other day while I was driving, I saw a man carrying a sign, and it said "18 vets commit suicide every day in this country" . There is a reason that they do, and it's NOT their mental condition....

Stokes, your crops are good enough for Government Work.

Folks, if you've ever lived without food, potable water, sanitary living conditions, or a dry place to sleep, then you know what The People of Pakistan are going through. If you've never lived like that, then you might think it's a cake walk, and it is not.

Tragedy this is, but I'm wondering what's next on the horizon for us here in the USA, this Winter?
