Faith Jones had been getting fed up for several election cycles, she says. But one day, it was as if some swaggering cowboy had been foolish enough to challenge the compact redhead to a trap shooting contest.
“I got up off my couch in March of 2009,” says Jones, 58. “I just got tired of e-mailing my elected officials, and I got tired of yelling at the TV.”
In her view, government spending — and overreaching — had reached an intolerable level. She railed at the stimulus packages and the bank rescue and health care reform.
“And who gave them permission to bail out the auto industry?” asks Jones, who raised her daughter on her own while working a variety of public affairs jobs. “I happen to know failure,” she says. “I have failed many times in my life. I think failure is a good thing. … Failure builds character.”
As for health care reform, she shares the common Tea Party view that it violates the Constitution.
“It’s the arrogance of these people, the unlawfulness,” she says. “They have lost faith in the people.”
Starting with no experience in political organizing but a background in public relations and sales, Jones and her fiancé, Vietnam veteran Randy Taylor, organized the first rally of the Northwest Indiana Patriots in Valparaiso on April 15.
“At that first rally, we hoped we would get 50 people,” says Jones. “And then, about 1,000 people showed up — they just kept streaming over the top of this hill.”
As the main speaker, she was shocked and then inspired.
“Patriots!” she began, shouting into the microphone.
The NWIP now has about 1,800 members, and Jones is getting invitations to speak at larger Tea Party events, which she does without a script — bringing her own blend of rugged individualism and charm.
“You just have to speak from your heart. I don’t mind telling people I’ve never done this before … so you can do it,” says Jones. “I hope to be an inspiration, even if they stand on the other side of the aisle.”
She also tries to get people in her audiences to take practical action on issues, learning how politics works as she goes along.
“President Obama is not on the ballot on this election November 2,” she will point out to gatherings. “I say: Please, pay attention to how important the sheriff is. Understand the power of one school board member. Stay focused in your local community, because we will correct this community by community.”
Jones says she is in politics for as long as it takes to make officials accountable to voters and to observe constitutional limits.
“I think it has taken about 40 years for our government to lose the principles of our founding fathers,” she says. “It will take time to correct.”

It sounds like she got off the couch in 2009 after being oblivious to Republican Run Government all these years that sank the economy, she decided to turn on the news one day to see that a black man was elected president and she realized that the Cowboys fell asleep behind the stirrups. Shame on those Cowboys for allowing "her country" to awaken itself from the 1800's.
Louis,
You post is so full of hatered it scares me. It also scares me that you think the Republicans ruined the economy. If it where not for cowboys you would not be able to enjoy the things you do today.
And it's not about BLack and White, it's about RIGHT and WRONG.
LouisJ
Can all you come up with is "the Republicans did it" and then , when you have nothing else, you have to inject race intothe fray? In just a minute, I'm expecting you to throw out some name associated with Nazis ; at which point I will invoke Godwin's Law.
You can see nothing but Republican and Race; get some glasses (but I doubt they will help, the problem appears to be behind the optic nerves, IMO). Your hero HRH Nancy the First of the House of Non-Representatives has had the purse strings of congress since 2006 and Bush as been Gone since January 21, 2009. Your buddies the "Progressives", "Futurist", Ultra-liberals, etc. have just as much culpability in this mess as anyone else. Go spout you DNC diatribe and puerile slogans somewhere else. The whine is so bad we may need to call a WAAAAmbulance.
I guess you're right when Congressmen are being spat on by racist people, when all the TEA Baggers just shout to drown out the intelligent part of the conversation, when Congressmen snub the president in the middle of a speech... man I could go on and on, but that to you is American. It's utter ignorance, stupidity and arrogance. You ever hear of fools rushing in?
I see a fool and his keyboard are never parted. It seems to me the only fool rusing in, is you rushing into this conversation.
cocobean the worst I see in the tea party is the total lack of knowledge concerning our constitution.
And then we see and hear Angle talking about the "second amendment solution" and you can't how bad that is?
I also note that a great number of the tea parties are blaming the Dem's for the sins of the bush admin that they are the ones that went to war for oil and never got around to paying for it
LouisJ
My Great Grandfather used that:
From the bigoted, racist, and totally uninformed remarks about people that are the mantra of your ultra-liberal / "progressive" / "futurist" companions, education alone is not a requisite for the production of a "Damned Fool". Your remarks, IMO, just prove that the comedian Ron White is absolutely correct when he says:
Your remark:
This just proves you ignorance. You take the actions of 1 person and apply them to all without a second thought. I believe that you scream at the top of your lungs , from the other side of your mouth, when someone labels all of a group that you support (you know, Illegal Aliens, "overeducated Intelectials", etc.) in the same way you wield your brush. Who is the hypocrite here?
Before you make another statement like:
Might I suggest that you take a good look into the mirror? Yes, Pot, you too are black!
What is up with the OCD obsession with God and Guns, on the Right?
It is so infantile, in every way.
There goes another idiot spouting off about a "black" man. Most of us were getting upset during the Bush years too. Bush was a borderline democrat when it came to fiscal issues. And I think we all can agree this nation building crap has got to stop. It has nothing to do with the color of Obama but about his wealth distribution progressive big-government agenda.
Think for a moment.. What do you want to achieve? It is sad most of us are unhappy with our present condition. We are not exempt from the effect of negative emotions. Stop insulting each other.
We can all achieve change within and around us. Do not believe in leaders or the "Media". It is so obvious how they want to use us. The facts are there for us to study. Lets grow up together...
Now, why isn't the Tea Party all up in arms over Bush's drug program? Never heard one of them even mention it.
She thinks Harley Davidson is #1, but she wants this country to be part of the 3rd world.
Ye haw...love them guns. You should have gotten off your couch and high horse 8 years earlier!!!
key2joy,
And what negative remark would you have had for her if she were pictured sitting at her table with a cup of coffee? I, two, own guns but don't use them fro much anymore. I learned to shoot in the Marine Corps but, after a couple of tours in Vietnam, I lost my desire to just go out and hunt / kill things. But, because I support fiscal responsibility, smaller, a more efficient government that is responsible to those that elected them rather than the Washington lobbyist would you also paint me with the "Ye haw...love them guns " brush?
Many of the things that started the ball rolling to get us where we are started all the way back with Harry Truman. This isn't a recent happening. Just blaming the problems we have now on the past 8 years is almost a sensible as blaming the weatherman for a couple of rainy days.
Key2joy,
Just one more thing for you to think about. A Photo blog can make people look the way the blogger wants them to look. This isn't journalism, it is pandering to peoples fears via photos. A Photoblog can make someone one look like an intelligent Individual, a Concerned Citizen, an "Average Joe", or a witless moron. Its all in the way the photo is displayed and what point of view the photographer / blogger wants to convey.
Is it your suggestion that we judge people that we have never met by the look on their faces, the clothes that they wear , color of their skin, the cut of their hair, or their sexual preference? That seems to be the overtone of of your remark. I thought you were a liberal. Your overtones certainly sound a bit John Birch like to me!
A picture is worth a thousand words......unfortunately.
What did you mean by that? That she likes to shoot, so that makes her an inferior breed? You know, there are many people out there who just love to shoot. I'm one of them. So are many democrats. What's wrong with that?
JohnCL,
I live in a 50 year old woman that lives in Boca Raton Florida and my gun has more fire power then hers. I see a hard working, self supporting woman who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. God Bless her
I see a crazed old white woman with a gun in her hand and Bush tattooed across her forehead. "OMG there's a black man in the white house and liberal gays in Congress!! When did this happen??? This never happened under Bush's watch!!" She looks ready to shoot her way back to her 1950's heyday.
Cygnus, I love you!
I don't think JohnCL was talking about the gun. Look at her face, I bet she was pretty before the hate poured in. And, I'm not talking about the lines (I have more). Most loving older ladies are soft looking when they talk about things they love. I don't know what the gun represents other than she likes to shoot. I'm okay with that, but I'm not ok with her beliefs. Vote Democrat.
I'm betting she, like many of us, is so fed up with the political garbage emanating from both sides of the aisle that any change would be welcome. This is how Jesse Ventura got elected governor of Minnesota. Many of the problems everyone is complaining about didn't start until after Obama took over. No matter which one of the major parties wiins, the people lose.
Not really true. It was during Bush's term in office that the majority of the Bail-Outs of the financial markets were done. (and I voted for Bush) He is in fact the main player in our going into debt 14 trillion dollars to China and the Arab Emirates. Also a fact, is that Obama has NOT helped the situation one bit. He has been systematically trying to wear down our economy even more with his own bail-out/Stimulus packages. More Debt. These ideas come from the Clinton's." Throw the people a little money and they won't notice the stupid moves you are making to further ruin the economy"
This is why I am going to do my bit to get the long time seated senators and Congressmen Out Of Office. ( both parties) If the Tea Party can get it done then that is where my vote goes.
Chamber, I'm pretty sure most Americans would be content right now if we werent in a recession. A recession which was caused and started under Republican rule. The only thing I'm soured about Obama is that he hasnt reigned in Wall St, Big-Pharma, Big Business, and Big Oil.
Chamberdoc:
There are positives about the Teaparty but most of us wonder why the Teaparty movement did not really get started until it became apparent that we'd probably have a black, liberal as our president. I'm not saying everyone who opposes the current administartion is racist, that would be as stupid a thought as the thought that race has nothing to do with this for anyone.
Good Thought.
I have been frustrated with government spending beyond its means for years now, and worried that politicians from both parties have not faced the reality of what our addiction to spending and entitlement will do to the nation in the long term. I felt like I was all alone and powerless against big-monied politicians who constantly rape the taxpayers for pet projects and payoffs to their supporters. With the rise of the Tea Party, I have suddenly found that there are millions more like me. Together WE now have some real power to make our representatives actually represent the average citizen, and not just their own and special interests. That is the Tea Party. We are interested in protecting the taxpayer and bringing fiscal sanity back to the government. Call that racist if you will, but ask yourself, is the political party that you support looking out for the interests of the taxpayer? Is your party advocating spending far in excess of tax revenues? Is your party more interesting in protecting the wealthy, the unions, the illegal aliens, the corporations, special interests, or YOU? If you are honest with yourself, you will know that the racial nonsense is nothing but a red herring thrown out to discredit average folk who are trying to make a difference in running the country. I supported Obama - right up until the moment he signed that rediculous stimulus bill (we have flushed $800 billion down the toilet with almost nothing but debt to show for it). The reason the Tea Party has really gotten moving since President Obama took office is because the liberal Democrats have been totally irresponsible and have put special interests and party before the people. That is the truth.
Its unfortunate the tea bagger woke up after eight years, go back to sleep and rest your guns!!
LouisJ -
Funny how all you whiny Libocrats can throw stones at the Republicans for "sinking the economy". Recommend that you take a course in econonmics.
The REAL cause of all this was banks making bad loans to people who couldn't afford them. The banks were PUSHED to do this by the Federal Government during the Clinton years.
Yeah, that's right.
Oh, and did I mention that the law that Clinton and his administration was using to strongarm the banks into doing this was something called the 'Community Reinvestment Act'? Guess whose signature is on that piece of trash? That's right, sports fans: a liberal named JIMMY CARTER. Heard of him? He signed that because 'ownng a home is something every American is entitled to'. Sure they are - as long as they can pay for it. Otherwise they're NOT "entitled" to home ownership. It's just math: If you can't pay the note, then you shouldn't get the loan; period.
Really irritating how all you whiny liberals shout from the rooftops that you're the party of tolerance...and then every chance you get you inject some sort of a racist comment to fan the flames. That's right... YOU, LouisJ, are a racist. What other explanation is there for you accusing this woman - who is simply doing what she thinks is right - of doing it because she "decided to turn on the news one day to see that a black man was elected president"?
Oh, and BadBob? Key2Joy? To Both of you, you're just dumb.
Anybody who thinks that the banks made the bad loans because of CRA is just plain uninformed. The banks made the loans because of the demand for them to fund the CDOs and sell on Wall St. The majority of loans failling are prime. The banks would loan to anyone because the could just repackage and sell them and make a ton doing it. The CRA argument is totaly false. You think Ameriquest and New Century thrived because of CRA? No they thrived because at the time they could sell and flip there crap no matter how bad it was. In the end the banks did this to themselves.
Gunner(too funny):
Problem isn't really people who can't afford a home. It's the people who wanted a second home or a much bigger home or who cashed out every bit of equity they had in their house for a vacation.
Blaming a president who left office 30 years ago. That also is too funny!
JustGetItRight
And anyone that makes a statement like yours is either equally uninformed or intentionally oversimplifying the issue. CDO's were a PIECE of the problem along with CDS's, CRA, Lack of effective regulation, Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac, Wall Street, Banks, Pension Funds, IRA's, Money Market, savings accounts, and people that just didn't know what they could afford.
When you investigate an airplane crash, you find out that the cause of the crash is [Mistake 1] + [mistake 2] + [mistake 3] + [mistake 4] + [mistake 5] = Plane Crashed. While one may have been more egregious than another, the fact still exists that, had any one of them NOT happened in the Order that they happened, we wouldn't be here investigating a smoking hole in the ground. The same thing happened with the economy. Some was Bushes fault, some was during Clinton's watch, some was on Carter's and Reagen's Watch and some of the problems go all the way back to Truman and Eisenhower.
And don't just wildly blame the Banks and wall street. Do you have an IRA, Pension through your company, Pension fund with your union, or a savings account? If so, you too have some of the blame. You 9or your Pension, 401K, or IRA managers demand a certain level of Interest or ROI. If they don't get it, they will take their money somewhere else. Its not quite as simple as just picking one thing and declaring it to be the cause of all things evil. I believe we have seen that type of behavior before.... in 1930's Germany.
Gunner is correct folks. Peanut head carter allowed people to purchase houses they couldn't afford and clinton went along with him.
Facts are facts period. Of course I don't expect the liberals to believe such.
And James you VERY conviently left some facts about conservatives out. Blameless conservatives? Hands tied behind their back and couldn't do anything to stop? It is people like you, the fake patroit, the party lap-dog that is part of the problem.
Look at the real frustration, it is the Opinion Casters of the News Media. A 24/7/365 mantra of hate and discontent that has done a great job af brainwashing a portion of the population to hate another portion of the population. The lack of balance and factual reporting is at the bottom of this entire issue and will, in time rip this country into shreds. We will not lose our country to outside forces. We will lose our country from within.
What like FOX the right wing propaganda machine with Glenn Beck the tinfoil hat wearing ass. Hannity throws soft ball questions like why does the media pick on you Ms. O'Donnell, or Why do you think they talk against common sense policy like getting rid of SS Ms Angle, or comments about how playing Nazi dress up is just clean all American fun and giving passes on Sanford hiking the old Appalachian trail I.E flying to Argentina and playing Havana hump hump with some tart, but when Clinton gets a hummer its the end of the world and no moral values. Is that the kind of unfair news reporting form the all blond all the time newscorp? IDIOT
jim young, yes, Fox is part of the problem, as is MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and any other 24-hour "news" channel in existence today. None of these so-called journalists are capable of providing information without bias. Instead of true, honest, investigative journalism, we get half-truths....whatever half that network supports politically.
If you can't recognize that there are other news outlets besides Fox that do this, it is useless to attempt to engage in any discourse with you, because it will eventually go to this: "Republicans evil, Democrats good" and it is simply impossible to engage in reasonable dialogue with someone who is unreasonable.
Jill:
So what is your solution?
There can be no solution until the people demand that news organizations be held accountable for disseminating fact instead of opinion. The cable channels need to make it clear that they are not news, but instead, they are entertainment channels and in the same vein, they should make it clear that their stories are at the very least tinged with their opinion. And the network channels should hold themselves to higher journalistic standards. Outside of that, people have to do their part to research both sides of an issue instead of being content to rely upon what their chosen "anchor", ala Olbermann or O'Reilly, tells them is true....instead of feeling content with our ideas and ideals, perhaps we should be regularly challenging them, at least internally. Perhaps doing so would inspire us to demand more of our so-called news media.
Classic old white race haters. I am white and I have been part of the gun culture for over 30 years. I love guns and the history of firearms and the parts that they have played in the world. But when I go to a gun show and you can hear nothing but uneducated comments like Obama care took control of the medical industry on the light side to jokes like they put Obama on a Christmas bulb and I give all my family one, I think everyone should have a dead Ni##er on their tree, it makes it very hard to be around these idiots long. Since I am in the minority at these things and it is mostly old white hate filled people there I do not say much. At work when the blacks are not around I hear how MLK day is dead NI##er day or Earl Ray appreciation day. The south is lousy with racists and they are coming out of the wood work everywhere emboldened by the Tea Bagging nut jobs who wave around the constitution and do not know much about it.
The Rand Paul types who want to repeal the 14th amendment as its unconstitutional, and the Iotts who play Nazi dress up and the O'Donnell's who do not believe in evolution and that the earth was created in a literal 6 days, she says 7 but forgets that supposedly god rested on the 7th, Hmmmm an all powerful god that needed to rest and could not keep himself from getting nailed to a tree, not my idea of a god. These people are certifiably nuts. Glenn Beck is the lonesome roads pied piper to the crazy wackos who want to abolish public education, PUBLIC EDUCATION, why because it spends money of the poor, and it does not allow the teaching of talking snakes and virgin births. As far as Christianity goes it is a dangerous as radical Islam and as David Hume said, which is more probable, that the whole natural order of things should be suspended or that a Jewish Minx should tell a lie?
This is when things get set up for the country going nuts, just as when things became bad in the Weimar republic and people turned to radical ideas like that of the NSDAP, that's national socialist deutsch arbeit party to the tea baggers, and for the dumber of the tea baggers its translated as national socialist german workers party or NAZI for short. Now we are going to start electing people like O'Donnell and Palidino and Angle and Paul? These people are nuts, bat s h I t crazy. If this happens I am moving to Canada where the people are much more sane and the economy in that socialist nation is much better. Tea baggers are to stupid and to blinded by hate for a black guy in the white house to see that they are lining up behind corporate interests that could give a rip about them or their families, and that are trying to outsources jobs through the influence of shadow entities like the US chamber of commerce, who takes money from foreign sources that advocate outsourcing, why give to this entity? Because they give to the Republicans, and the tea baggers are the ones fighting against workers. Stupide people being lead by selfish black hearted corporate stooges.
Thank you for your lucid thought I could not have said it better. Where in the world has common sense and courtesy gone. All I hear from the political ads is hatred. Apparently many people have lost the ability to consult several resources and then upon reflection make an intelligent well informed decision ! No it is much easier to pick a side and spew whatever bull they are feeding you. As far as I can see we are becoming a nation of idiots.
I second that! I love how the lady above is against TARP. First TARP was a Bush policy. Second where was she then? Third it was the righ thing to do. Anybody ever remember what happened when Hoover let the banks and the credit market fail? Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Jim Young. You said some very important things. When people allow themselves to be driven by their opinions rather than fact we have emotionally charged events and divisive statements. I think that one could make the comparison between professional wrestling and professional football. People will pay large amounts of money to attend an NFL game without the hype of all the trash that is used to promote professional wrestling.
When a politician rants and raves about issues that are directed at your emotions rather than your intellect you should question their ability to serve. How in this world can anyone believe a person who will not ridicule the idea that the president was not born in the USA. Other riduculous issues have been brought up by some members of the GOP. How can a voter not be insulted that the candidates have so little respect for the voters that they will use such garbage?
Someone told me that it was a mistake to provide a logical response to an objection to an idea if the objection was illogical. If someone says the President is a member of a particular faith our response should be, "A vest has no sleeves."
Keep up the good work
ds
Amen to you jim young-2273542. I'm white also and it amazes me how other whites think it's okay to make snide racist remarks when only whitesare around....they are usually older as well and I put them right in their place....additionally I still have no idea what these "tea" people stand for....all they say is sound bites but where's the beef....I have seen no detailed platform from any of these people.
Excellent statement, and observation, Jim Young.
Well written.
Jim Young, your comments regarding Nazis Germany are right on point. I am currently reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and I am amazed at the similarities between what was happening in Germany in the 1920's and 30's and what is happening in the U.S. presently. I also find it ironic how many conservatives try to characterize Obama as Hitler when it is in fact the activities of conservative politicians today that are right out of the Fuehrer's playbook. Divide and conquer, create intense partisanship in order to paralyze the government so that nothing really gets accomplished and the government becomes totally ineffective, appeal to the emotions of the less educated more gullible masses and make them think your agenda is in their interests, promote the derisive "us vs. them" mentality, racism and hatred in order to keep the electorate off balance and easily manipulated, do whatever is needed to secure the interests of the corporate magnates regardless of whether it is in the best interests of the people, etc. Isn't it Karl Rove (another historical figure without a conscience in my opinion) who promotes the idea that it is not about what is good or right for all of the people, it is just about getting 51% of the vote? Remember how many conservative Christians felt betrayed by the Bush administration? Also interesting how once he was in power, Hitler betrayed the very people who put him in power. The Rise and Fall should be mandatory reading for the Tea Party folks as a cautionary tale. Or perhaps (shudder) it already is as a "how to" book. The old adage "be careful what you wish for" seems appropriate for those who blindly support the overthrow of the current government.
It's a shame really because I appreciate the idea of everyday citizens "getting off the couch" and getting involved in the political process and I agree with the unhappiness that many express with the current group of career politicians the majority of whom appeared to be only interested in staying in office and serving the special interests that can keep them there. But when the majority of these so-called revolutionaries simply regurgitate what they are told by conservative nut jobs then they lose all credibility as far as I am concerned. Where were these people when George Bush and his cronies were selling out to corporate interests and destroying good ole Amerika's international reputation or even when they disagreed with what the Clinton administration was doing? Why now are they outraged enough to take to the streets? Hmmm I wonder. Did we go to far with this Democratic elections idea for some?
Why wait, move to Canada now. We wont miss you here:) Go spew your anti american filth somewhere else!!
This is not the real face of the tea baggers. That real face belongs to the Koch brothers, the oil barron brothers who play the game from behind, the likes of Dick Armny, and Karl Rove are two of there high priced lip movers. The Kochs are behind many of the fringe groups that they call grass roots.these two wingers have been at this for decades, trying to buy the results they want, and to date have a long list of Right wingers they pay to spew there ideas. They and a hand full of Oilers are in control, and can out spend any union or other groups. Now this bagger woman must have been alright with Bush taking 240 billion that the Clinton left in surplus, and in eight years turned it into a 1.2 trillion dollars in debt, but just about time the bushs where running from the disasters Little GW created, the baggers got all bunched up,cause there was a new face ,one not the same tone as there;s but closer to the tone of the once owned workers they use to use as there labor force. This is to doc chambers, the reason Jesse The Body won the election is there was a a ton of money that the state had in collected in revenue, there was a huge debate about how to use it.Norm Coleman and Skip Humphrey wanted to use it for a rainy day fund.Jesse wanted to give it back as a re=bate, end of story,The Body Won and shocker the world.
How can I get some of this Koch Brothers money? I support the Tea Party because I think that they are the only group that is standing up for the taxpayer. I want government to spend within its means and address the long-term entitlement liabilities that we are facing. I want representitives NOT beholden to their party. I'm not pleased about GW Bush's spending - I've been mad about that for years and made it known many times. I'm equally pi***ed at Obama spending even MORE and even more recklessly.
What is your problem with people like me who have felt powerless against wasteful politicians finally getting ourselves together and saying enough is enough? Stop wasting our $$$. Stop forcing your idiotic political agendas down our throats when we say no (that's called representation). Start to do things that make sense for America and not just for your special interests. Does this sound like your party? Bet it doesn't. You should rethink your position and join the Tea Party. Kick out ALL incumbents who break the law, waste our money, and are beholden to their parties. Both sides of the isle. Do it this November.
There, that is the face of the vast majority of the Tea Party.
Citizen Zane - you hit the nail on the head - all the politicians should be voted out. Thay are only interested in getting re-elected so they can continue to help themselves and ignore the people. Who approved them voting themselves payraises? Who approved them getting full retirement beifits after serving only one term? Who did that beifit? Them - not us.
Those that believe the Tea Party is against Obama because he is black are RACIST. LouisJ is the biggest offender. He can not argue the merits of the Tea Party or anything else without injecting race. This is small minded and senseless.
Obama has failed because his policies have not accomplished what he said they would. He also broke many of his major campaign promises. His TRILLION(s) dollar gamble will leave America hurting for a long time.
The Tea Party is evolving because when the Republicans held both houses of Congress they did not do what they promised to do.
I pray that this government will someday be fiscally responsible. I will vote in November.
cute
As opposed to Bush's trillion dollar gamble (Iraq). There is some well spent money. At least Obama spent the money at home. I long for fiscal responsibility as well. I have just never got it from the Republicans in my lifetime.
--State of the Union Address (January 29, 2002)
George W. Bush
"As we gather tonight, our nation is at war; our economy is in recession;
It costs a lot to fight this war. We have spent more than $1 billion a month, over $30 million a day, and we must be prepared for future operations.
Whatever it costs to defend our country, we will pay.
Our budget will run a deficit that will be small and short term."
Your lord, Bush set the ground work for this in the above state of the union address in 2002, now you lay it on Obama, how ignorant.
Stop assuming that every Tea Party supporter worships at the idol of GW Bush. I happen to think that he recklessly spent a bunch of our money. I also think Obama is recklessly spending EVEN MORE money. Do you support throwing $800 billion down a toilet with very little to show for it? Do you think that overregulating and overtaxing our business sector will improve jobs? Do you think that we should provide more incentives for illegal immigrants to enter the US and suck our tax money and take jobs from workers here? Do you think that pulling successful people down because you are not successful is fair and just? Hey let's take a bunch of money from the taxpayers, business owners, currently insured and spread it among friends of our party! Good idea right?
This November, the American people have a chance to repudiate the "change" we were not waiting for! I am hopeful that the message to our elected officials is that we do not like redistribution of wealth, more and more entitlement and the slow strangulation of business through increased regulation and tax burden. I hope that they interpret this correctly! We do not want a President who despises business, capitalism and success. We are tired of the arrogance of government officials, the lying politicians and tyranny of the left. But, if the Democrats are swept away in November, they and their media allies will probably misinterpret the message because of their belief in the certainty of their position and their continued disregard for the points of view of people like Faith Jones and the millions of others that feel the same way.
Bob Thomas:
Please site specific examaples of "redistribution of wealth" or "more and more entitlement". Lack of reguation is a big reason for the problems we have today. Poor people are not the root of this counties problems
GoSteelers
Let's see...tax hike on the "wealthy" to pay for health care. Higher insurance premiums for currently insured, business owners, and (trupet blows) the "wealthy". Extending tax cuts for all but (trumpet blows) the "wealthy". Misnamed "Jobs Bill", which effectively shifts money from the taxpayers to state labor union members (friends of the democrats). What part of 1/2 the people in the country pay no income tax and many get tax refunds without paying at all does not say "redistribution of wealth" to you? Taking money out of some people's pockets, and putting it into the pockets of others is the very definition of redistribution of wealth. I know, I know, Bush cut taxes for the wealthy...blah blah blah. Hey, he cut my taxes too, cut yours, and everyone elses. We all paid less tax (course we didn't quite get spending down enough, which was a total fail) and the savings from the middle class and poor were not distributed by the government to the rich, so don't bother going down that road.
I personally think that all of us got us into this mess and that we all have to take personal responsibility to get us out. I believe that we all have to pay more taxes to get out of this hole, and we need to spend less as a country. Our economic mess is the fault of everyone who spent beyond their means and allowed elected officials to do the same. Rich and poor included. More regulation, if motivated by political purpose rather than common sense, will only weaken the economy more. If regulation is the answer, why were Fannie and Freddie left untouched by the new financial regulations? Politics. The Tea Party is the only party out to protect the taxpayer. Unless you are in a union or receiving government assistance, you may be best to join us too.
Good post Citizen Zane! Right on target.
Why is it not surprising that the lead photo is of a white person, middle-aged, western-style hat, with a gun. Whatsamatta? Couldn't find a similar photo with the addition of a Bible?
I wonder if Dick Cheyney taught her about gun safety.
So if the cause of the Great Recession was Carter & Clinton and the CRA, why did the Repubs not do something about that act during the 12 years they had the presidency? If CRA was so bad, Repubs had plenty of time to do something about it. Both parties had a hand in creating conditions for the fall but Bush and his buds drove the bus into the ditch.
scary scary people indeed, this is the group that would influence another civil war in the U.S. be it on their heads.
I'm not afraid they way they want us to be afraid. I'll help protect you sparrow1.
Scary scary people are the ones who think that we can continually spend way beyond our means with no consequences. I am a Tea Party supporter and think that the ballot box, not armed insurrection, will be all it takes to bring some sanity back to the government. Only a complete idiot would believe that armed Tea Partiers are going to roam the streets with guns looking to shoot people. You know it too - you are just being a brick with your idiot post.
WAKE UP AMERICA!!! If more people embraced the Tea Party's values we would be in a much better place. I will pray for you all
oh @!$%# off!
Lauren:
Thank you for praying for me! I'd ask all the Teapartiers to pray for me but they keep telling me they are not religous zealots as you probably are.
That is the problem the Tea Party thinks that they are the only people who should dictate what values the government should enforce. You scream about the constitution and how the present government is not following it. However, in the same breath you want to deny Muslims the right to build a community center because you don't agree with their religion but instead you attempt to pass it off as sanctifying ground zero. What happened to the freedom of religion or does your constitution say only for Christians after that passage?
You scream about taxation and the redistribution of wealth yet you lack the intellect to see that the great distribution of wealth rose to its pinnacle during the Bush reign. The gap between the haves and have-nots grew wider apart then any time since the days of the Robber Barons.
You cry about the health care reform, which by the way did not go far enough in guaranteeing that every citizen should have the right to medical treatment. You also like to yell about socialism and fascism while having no idea what either of those forms of government truly is. But hey it makes for great pictures and slogans for your protest signs while you march and scream keep your hands out of my Medicare.
You scream we are not racist yet all one has to do is attend one of the many rallies to see signs that are filled and based on raciest and bigoted slogans. You are a gathering of ignorant individuals who refuse to acknowledge that someone is pissing on your head just as long as Beck and the other jackals and pundits tell you it is raining. You never think for yourselves except when it comes to spewing hate and demanding that the country accept and follow your ideas of freedom.
You lack the common sense to see that your pathetic attempts to justify your hatred, anger, ignorance, and just plain lack of compassion and intelligence is the typical bigot’s response. Thus you attempt to try and pass yourself off as not being a bigot by accusing those that do not agree with you of being the bigots. You work hard to bring back a society where it is acceptable once more to let prejudicial hatred and discrimination to be publicly practiced without the fear of reprisals from people of conscience.
Tea party members are Patriotic, Freedom loving, constitution waving, zealots. They are only patriotic in their own small minded little prejudicial world. The only freedom they love and promote is the freedom for everyone to think in lock step with them. And ironically the only constitution they want to follow is the one in their imagination that allows them the power to force their backwards and ridiculous beliefs and understanding on everyone else, thus causing the writers of the real constitution to roll over in their graves. However, I do not know if they are rolling over because of disgust or just out of laughter and disbelief at how totally clueless the tea party members are.
Good post Nicole.
Tea Party worships the Constitution. It is their "Holy Grail", But the 10th Amendment needs to go, the 14th Amendment also needs to go, and the 1st Amendment needs to be clarified to define who gets free speech (Corporations and wealthy individuals who can pay for it, God fearing Christians, Gun carrying Patriots, Conservative thinking? folk, and anti-tax anti-spend States Rights people) All others need to get permits to speak (they don't have a permit issuing office yet and it may take some time to create one because of tax cuts and spending cuts.
Why aren't the Tea Party folks mad as hell at Pat Donahue and the US Chamber of Commerce for promoting outsourcing jobs and work to foreign corporations. Why aren't they screaming at Pat Donahue and the US Chamber of Commerce for accepting millions in donations from foreign corporations (some government owned) into their general funds account (the same account they use to pay for campaign ads)?
Why aren't the Tea Party folks mad as hell at Corporations for not making an effort to change the market dynamics to create a fair trade playing field to promote activities that increase demand for their products. If Government is not responsible for creating jobs, then it IS the business community's responsibility to change the unemployment dynamic in this country. Why don't the Tea Party folks hold corporate America accountable for their irresponsible actions and/or inactivity. The more Americans that have good paying jobs, the more sources of revenue available to do things like "pay down the National Debt", fund Medicare and Social Security, rebuild our crumbling infrastructure (do we really need more Minnesota bridges to collapse before we act?) What is the private sectors responsibilities regarding improving America's infrastructure?
Why are the Tea Party folks against improving the standard of living and quality of life for ALL Americans? Don't Americans derserve a good standard of living and high qaulity of life? I think WE do!
Why aren't the Tea Party folks rabid with anger against the Republicans in the Senate? The ones who invoke the filibuster to stop legislation that they voted FOR in committee. The legislation that Republicans publicly were in favor of until it came time to bring the Senate Bills up for an up or down vote. Where is the anger at that hypocrisy? Anyone?
I have a feeling that the Tea Party organizers purposely nominated normally unelectable candidates just to show their total disdain for our Democratic Republic form of Government and to declare it a JOKE. Unfortunately, they the Tea Party faithful are being led by a group that cares nothing about our form of government and sees it as simply an obstacle to be overcome. The Tea Party seems perfectly willing to enable dismantling of OUR Government. They are striving for the GOVERNMENT OF THE FEW, BY THE FEW, FOR THE FEW and to hell with everyone else. SAD!!!!
Laureen, please do not pray for me. I can do that for myself. I really can and do. And, November 3rd I'll know if God answered my prayers, or yours. HE can't grant both of our prayers.
Nicole,
Do you fail to see that the government confiscating the money of some people and handing to other poeple is redistribution of wealth? Did the GW Bush charge you MORE taxes and give it to some rich guy or did somebody else actually work hard, manage risk, and fill a market need to become more successful than you?
I scream about health care "reform" because we have an incomprehensible law that does nothing to reduce the costs of health care. I know that taxpayers, currently insured, and businesses will pay a lot more now because of this bill. If we are going to do something this big, shouldn't we come up with a bill that makes sense rather than cram through a monstrisity that nobody has read? What part of stupid do you not get?
I know what fascism and socialism are. I prefer free markets and democracy, but hey, that's just my personal choice.
Just who is calling who a bigot? You are assuming that other people dislike the President because he is not 100% white. I actually supported the President up until the moment the stimulus bill passed. You lumping all Tea Partiers as bigots is the very definition of being bigoted, just because we don't agree with your political views. What an idiot! BTW, I've yet to see a racist sign at any Tea Party rally or had any member of the Tea Party discuss race. When you went, what did you see?
Tea Party supporters don't believe that you have to walk in lockstep with us. We just want you to take personal responsibility for YOU. That's part of what freedom is. I have the right to be successful without your jealous buttocks feeling entitled to take a piece of it. Want to share my piece of my pie, then share my work ethic. And which party wants to ram a bunch of horrible legislation through Congress over the objections of the majority? Is that the Tea Party? Nope. All of that crap that you accuse us of is the definition of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
Ms. Jones appears as a caricature of how Americans like to think of themselves, rugged individualists protecting themselves by force of arms against the predators of the wild west. She is emblematic of the Tea Party because she represents an idealization, rather than a reality and in American politics, it's all about appearance rather than substance, rhetoric over reason. This has been the case since Ronald Regan brought Hollywood sensibilities to American politics. The Tea Party and it's adherents are only interested in the ends, the ends which benefit themselves, and not the means to those ends. They epitomize the selfishness that characterizes so much of the United States to the world at large and to the disenfranchised here at home. In spite of or because of the generosity of Americans abroad, we are perceived as naive or self-involved. At home, what's left of the middle class and most of the lower classes have a perception that what they want or what they see doesn't matter, that the government will help those abroad before it helps them. These are fixed false beliefs that are being reinforced by people in power to retain power and it began long before the current administration. Bush I and Bush II capitalized on these beliefs for their own self aggrandizement. The Nixon administration perfected the use of fixed false beliefs to maintain control. They are a common tool used by the totalitarians, such as the Gestapo or the North Koreans, to maintain power and they function just as well in democratic societies. Say something long enough and loud enough and it becomes the truth without any truth behind it. So the picture of Faith Jones becomes emblematic of the Tea Party and certain assumptions accompany this image, that she's prosperous (the diamond rings), that she's capable (the gun), that she's mature (her age) and that she's a grandmother defending her children (always a heart render). Some of this may be true, most probably isn't true, but these assumptions are made and reinforced and become truth, just like the rhetoric of the right wing. I hope our democracy can withstand the half-truths such images, such rhetoric force on us. We've made it through Ronald Regan's lies, the Bush dynasties and the rule of Cheney, but the pernicious lies that form the basis of the Tea Party may well prove our biggest challenge yet.
Jeez! I thought a rogue tiger was dangerous, but an old lady with a gun? Run for the hills!
Exactly where do you live in the 50 year old woman?
I saw that comment earlier and wondered the same thing.
Amen sister. God is watching this election closely and he has already declared that we are the winners. The Republican prayers have greatly outnumbered the Democrat prayers, so it's going our way. God is democratic, but he is not a Democrat!
Your statement is what concerns us but doesn't scare us
This is a GREAT method of promoting the Tea party! It's taken straight from the NRA and their attempt to gain acceptance for the NRA into the mainstream population.
Nothing is more effective than showing the world members of a group whose values you question are just like you and me.
And to think I used to find politics BORING ... these days I can't guess who will come up with the next brilliant move.
PS ... I'm a LEFTIST and also a lifetime member of the NRA - go figure.

Get a clue. Your two "points" are completely bogus. No one ever spat on a Congressman, as failure to claim $100K for proving it happened, has gone unclaimed And, interrupting the president, Joe Wilson, was merely shouting the truth. Why are you so blinded by your obvious marxist ideology that you can't recognize truth when it is presented to you. You people are pathetic. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are major culprits in the demise of the housing market, which can be proven by records of their statements back in 2007 and senator barack obama was right in the thick of it. Demorats controlled the Congress for two years before the current marxists took control of both houses. Put the real blame where it belongs. But then, a liberal/socialists never wants to be bothered with facts when they have a blind ideology.
Liberalsocialistmarxistblahblah blah Blah BLah BLAh BLAH BLAH BLAH. Do you only know Becktalk? Or can you actually think for yourself?
It's interesting that you mention those who do not want to be bothered by facts. Are you aware that when Wilson disrespected not only the Presdient, but everyone in attendance, by shouting "you lie"...he was, in fact, wrong? The President had made the statement that the healthcare reform would not cover those in this country illegally, to which Wilson shouted, "you lie". Whether you agree with the "ObamaCare" or not, as it was written, it does not cover those in the US illegally. Although I am a conservative, and did not and would not vote for Mr Obama, there is a certain decorum that should be followed whenever the President is speaking....regardless of whether it is Clinton, Bush, or Obama...and even if the President makes a statement that is not accurate...shouting "you lie" during his speech is inappropriate. If you believe it was not inappropriate....chances are good it is because the President does not belong to your political party, and this is just more typical partisan politics.
It is pretty obvious which party(s) are the home for racist, bigots, homophobs, sexist and all out hatred.
No more need to be said other than we own guns too and will not me intimidated.
Yes, they want too intimidate us. They are underestimate us which will probably be their undoing!
