Lava flows from the Piton de la Fournaise volcano on the French island of la Reunion in the Indian ocean on Friday, Oct. 15. The eruption took place yesterday near the "Chateau Fort" site, south east of the volcano, one of the world's most active.

Hot lava

Officials on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean say the Piton de la Fournaise volcano has erupted.

The volcano is located in the southeast of the island. Most of the main population centers, including the capital, Saint-Denis, are clustered on the other half of the island.

Accoridng to the Associated Press, The Piton de la Fournaise is a very active volcano and it often spews fumes and lava.
