In this tug-of-war, you don't want to be the rope.
Each editor here has "their thing" for images that jump out - or in my case, reach in - to them.
For editor Meredith Birkett, it's large loads being transported on small vehicles. For me, it's sometimes been images of hands reaching into the frame.
In this photo especially, I think all of the reaching and pulling adds to the frenzied chaos of the situation. For the subject caught in the middle, some of the hands represent help and others harm.
