In addition to Thanksgiving, it's also the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. I found out because I ran into these pictures on the wire, and they're from all over the world. Here's a statement by the U.S. Secreatary of State, Hillary Clinton.

A woman lights candles next to cardboard silhouettes representing women killed as a result of domestic violence in Bucharest, Romania, Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010 during an event to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Romania, an European Union member state, still has no proper legal framework to combat domestic violence against women, with police unable to intervene if acts of violence take place inside the couple's home.

Afghan women who were either allegedly burnt by their male relatives or who tried to self-immolate, receive medical treatment at a local hospital in Herat Afghanistan, 25 November 2010, as world observes International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Afghanistan's independent human rights watchdogs and civil society organizations have been saying that gender violence has reached an alarming level in the country and efforts must be redoubled to tackle it. Forced marriages and a lack of education contribute to a recent spate of suicide attempts among women in Afghanistan. Ten women in the western town of Herat have committed suicide by self-immolation in the past year.

Ladies! Please get away from the crazed @!$%#! Run away! If you can't "Don't retreat, Reload!"
Men who use violence against women are not men at all, but scary animals with no souls. They are scared if women get educated and freedom, they can not be the cave man type anymore. Well, you no-good men who would dare beat up on women( and children) have lots to be worried about because we are empowering women all over the world not to let this happen to them and that they are equal in God's eyes and to most anyone with an ounce of goodness in them and the courts and police will be even tougher on you messed-up excuses for malehood!!! Go girls go!!!!!!!!!
I would agree with both of the comments so far. I would also like to see women raised to believe in themselves. To know self-esteem. To know it's okay to put their well-being first. In so many societies around the world, women are actually still taught that their first responsibility is to home and husband. Any other lifestyle is selfish and they have no value beyond what they do for others.
The greatest gift in my life is my wonderful husband. Together we show our children everyday what is possible with confidence, respect for others and a little flirting.
Sorry. I read stories such as these and I am thankful everyday. And happy.
Side note: the statue behind the women protesting in Medellin. I have a photo of myself and friends in front of that. Medellin is a beautiful city. One of my favorites.
All Holy Texts do not preach any such message of equality for women. In fact, what is preached is the exact opposite. That is just one reason why the Holy Texts are worthless, wrong and evil. Otherwise feel free to quote me the Texts message of equality for women? Religion poisons morality.
I don't believe that men "who beat up on women are not men at all." I believe they are whimps; they have no guts to come to any other man and fight; they are men in the most liberal use of that term. I would like to invite any man who wants to beat up on a lady, to come here instead. I simply don't understand how a "man" could hit a woman! Why don't they go out and pound their fists into a family pet? They're probably afraid that little cat could beat them in a real fight. These are, unfortunately, real "people" who think they're tough. Come here. I'll show you who's tough.

In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their own body just as Christ does the church.
Ephesians 5: 28-29 NIV
Men that think there more powerful than a woman/children are not powerful at all! They have no idea what Honor or Respect means or looks like. Yes God is raising up women to be stronger than ever before. She will work with men like never before in history. She will work side by side, not ahead or behind him. Gods plan was not for one to trample over the other. His plan was that each be there own individual. They each have strength talents and wisdom that the other needs. The purpose is for them to be a team. Both men and women need to honor when and where honor is due! When a man or anyone for that matter acts with violence, disrespect, or lack of honor they live in fear themselves. When anger and violence controls an individual they have no control of themselves. Anger/violence is an emotion that is covering up a root of something else. I despise it when someone feels that they have the power to control someone else with fear and violence, when they cant even control themselves! I totally agree you go girls!!!!!
It is a known fact that there are just as many if not more cases of female abuse against men, the difference is that most men consider it a show of weakness to complain and legal charges are virtually nil! There are thousands of American men who are beaten, humiliated, and broken psychologically by women, but unfortunately because of the prevalent "double standard" in todays American society, these facts are just laughed at and discounted! Along with "societal double standard" there is an even more serious "double standard" in our court system that frequently jails men without any evidence or proof yet fails to file charges on women , no matter how serious the injury. This subject is another example of a problem that is tainted with myth and political correctness as men are collectively considered the villain while women are cloaked in the protective myth of "American motherhood", a belief that is, and never was fact! Many, many of the most abusive, life destroying parents are women!
