I really like the second photo. The first one is to formal. The second one shows more feeling and the showing of his moms ring adds the right touch. They look like any young couple in love beginning thier journey into a new life together, totally in love with one another. Its sad in a way- that because of who the love of her life is will make it hard at times(many times) to just be in love and out of the public eye. My hats off to Kate and my prayers go out to both of them for the ride and journey they are taking. May the have more privacy than his mom did. The public needs to give them room to breath...

Lovely young woman. I doubt she'll be run over.

She already exhibits the confidence and sense of self it took Diana years to grow into. I think we'll see her follow in Diana's footsteps using her intelligence and influence for the commonweal.

How unfortunate for William. He's not aging well. He is starting to look more and more like his dad, and less like his mom, with every passing month. Pretty soon, he'll have the dumpy, frumpy look of all the Windsors, and Kate's eye will wander (who would blame her). She'd better take a good look at Papa Chuck, because that's what she'll be laying next to for the years to come. For that, I pity her. At least she has the guarantee of wearing silk undies the rest of her life!

William may be looking more like a Wndsor but I think he has his mother's heart and that is all that matters.

DMorgan, karma's a terrible thing to have coming after you. You'd best be more careful.

I wish William and Kate nothing but the absolute best!

They are such a cute couple - the difference between their official photo and Will's parents' engagment photo is the obvious affection and love they have for each other. It comes through. Best wishes and congratulations for both of them.

They are not a 'cute couple.' She is a darling girl. He is a Windsor; all the 'royals' of his father's generation (and since) are disgusting.

It's a shame that male pattern baldness runs in the family. Poor Wills... he'll be a cueball by the time he's thirty.. just like Prince Andrew. He used to be so adorable as a child but does get horsier looking like his father every day.

Harry on the other hand is a handsome fella but then we all know he's not really a Windsor by blood ;)

Sooooo happy for them.. I heard once "if you want to know if the union between a man and woman is right and working"...look at the woman's face...it says it all.  Kate looks radiant... Not because they are royalty, but because they are two lovely young people...I hope this obvious love and radiance continues for many years ahead and their generations to come.

I haven't seen these before - they are utterly enchanting. I do so hope he becomes the next future king of England and Kate his queen. And for the first time in British constitutional history they skip a generation in order to do it!

Lovely photo especially the second one; I wish Prince William the very best; I still remember the look on his and his brother's face as they walked behind their mother's funeral procession when she died; broke my heart.  I wish William and Kate the very best of happiness - something everyone should have.

I do like the second photo much better but I'm kind of wondering about the first photo. Is it my eyes or does that look like Will and Kate were photographed against a green screen and then the background added "later"??? They don't blend well with the background as is seen in "photo-shopped" pictures. There is a very sharp cut-off between them and the scenery where in the second photo the blend is very soft and natural.

Either way - I love them both and wish them all the good things that life can bring them - and happiness beyond their wildest dreams.

I'm with you on the first photo. I don't care for the actual photographic work. The second one is far superior.

I went back and looked at that formal photo again. It sure as heck does look like it's been photoshoped. There is way too much difference between the focus of the foreground and the background and the outlines do look extremely sharp and unnatural.

William is and will always be an image of Diana. Just from the fact that Kate was given Diana's ring tells the world and his family that William will never allow his mother to be left out! This time the Royals will have it right and continue a legacy that was tragically cut short.

I think they are both great photo's but I like the second one the best, it show a couple truly in love, unlike what we saw with his parents.

They took eight years to have their "private lives" and will have some more as he fulfills his military commitments.  By the time they are truly forced into the spotlight they will both be comfortable.  She is lovely and well, he's a Prince!  I wish them every happiness and hope that I, too, will find my own Prince Charming and be as happy as they are!

Wow - a BIG difference between the engagement photos of William and Kate, and Diana and Charles (http://www.talktalk.co.uk/lifestyle/galleries/view/lifestyle/charlesanddiana/browse/1).

The facial expressions and body language speak volumes. Thank goodness Prince William grew up under the warmth of Diana's love and not under the chill of the Windsor's propriety.

Why is there always one person who feels the need to predict the length of a marriage? Prince William has enough of his mother's values to know how to be a good and loyal husband, not one with a self serving purpose like his father. I hope he becomes king of England and his father sits around questioning what happened when he already knows. Charles isn't deserving of the throne. He wasn't deserving of Diana Spencer. Diana had class. Charles depended on people believing he did because he is a blue blood of the royal family. He set Diana up. Thankfully, I think the boys respect their father but they truly loved their mother and the legacy she left. Charles won't have a legacy. I wish Prince William and Kate the very best. They are beautiful and I hope they have a beautiful life, one loser daddy Charles and wrinkled up Camilla will be envious of.

It seems so weird to see THAT ring on someone else. It's so iconic. I know everything is as it should be, but it's still weird to me.

I think both photos are done well professionally, but I like the informalness of the second photo. I wish them the very best both now and in the years to come.

Magnolialabelle gee I'm glad you think these photographs are done professionally because I certainly don't. In the first shot the couple are standing under a chandelier that looks like it is ready to spear Katherine in the head and Williams head is almost completely bordered by the frame in the background. The second shot is a nice pose but is very pasty in appearance and I don't feel has been exposed very well. From a professional photographer they are not what I would expect.

If William and Katherine care to fly me to London for the wedding I'll give them photos much better than these. I know they won't so I'll just wish them every happiness for a long and happy life together.
