Relatives sit near portraits of "liquidators", emergency workers who fought the blaze at the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, during a commemoration ceremony in Kiev, December 14, 2010. Ukraine commemorated on Tuesday the workers, known locally as "liquidators", who were exposed to large doses of radioactivity during their efforts to contain radioactive contamination at the exploded Chernobyl reactor in 1986.

I wonder what we have learned from that and other disasters. I fear very little, as the destruction of the earth appears still to be in full force. Leaders make unwise / careless decisions and the general populace suffers the consequences. In my opnion the two men featured in front of the picture as well as those who lost their lives and their families, they are our heroes
