Injured turtle gets new set of wheels

About two months ago, Tzvika was run over by a lawn mower and suffered severe damage to her shell and an injury that affected her ability to use her rear limbs. The wheels, attached by veterinarians at the safari, elevate the turtle to keep the shell from being worn down and enable her to walk.

as much as im a fan of helping injured but this seems a bit insane, there's no way that turtle can traverse the wild with those wheels. it'll get caught on something, and the turtle cant just pull its wheels in to get unstuck.

im seriously hoping not much time, money or effort went into this...and especially not coming from taxpayer funds. I am a liberal, the bleeding heart variety...and this just seems a bit absurd.

Ilike what you had to say about the time expense to fix this animal, however this happened in Israel not the USA, so I don't think it was our tax dollars i and my guess is this turtle will become somebody's pet and be taken of by animal shelter

I didn't see anything about this animal being in the wild. Its on a safari. As though your taxpayer dollars, since that's all you seem to be concerned about, aren't being wasted on some politician's fancy hotel. I'd rather use my money to help this turtle than some other things.

If not used, the turtle's back legs and spine may recover. That is what I understood from the article. I am a volunteer at the Georgia Aquarium and have been to the Turtle rehabiitation center and other sites where they work to return injured animals to the wild; These sites returned them only if the animals will be able to fend for themselves. If not, they keep them at the facility and take care of them. We also take in orphaned animals, as in the case of 3 orphaned sea otters we received recently from the Monterrey Bay Aquarium. You would be surprised how ingenous biologists and aquariums can be when helping injured animals. Their lives are no less valuable than yours.

I seriously doubt that anyone would consider releasing this turtle back to the wild. She will , most likely, be a permanent resident "greeter" at the Wildlife Hosptial for the rest of her days. The care and compassion of the people who savedher humble me. Thank you for your kindness to one of Mother Nature's own.

The animals new wheels will never it to return to its natural environment. Great for a smooth flat surface.

House Republicans are protesting the decision to give this animal a better quality of life.

This turtle is the poster-child for Obama-care at it's worst and the reason we need health care rationing, including death panels.

Even the photo's caption incorrectly uses the word "turtle." But I know a desert tortoise when I see one. Used to have one; also had a partially crunched shell from a likely car encounter. Still got around fine, easy-care pet, but prone to wander off if looking for a partner. Can dig beneath fences...

You'd have to be careful when swallowing the wheels -- they might give you the "runs"!

Hopefully the turtle didn't have to wait as long as a disabled veteran has to for HIS prosthetics.

The John Boehner takes control as Speaker of the House and the big story on MSNBC is a turtle with wheels? Does anyone need further evidence that MSNBC is the voice of the Extreme Left?

Apparently some people have compassion for animals living with disabilities. The design of her prosthesis looks relatively simple but it works for her. Although she probably will need to spend the rest of her life living with human caretakers, she appears happy judging from that smile on her face:)

Bravo!! I had a parrot missing a foot and half her wing. Took her lots of places in a kangaroo

pouch that i had sewn on several shirts. She had a great time, truly enjoying her life. Never had a pet who loved me more. My bet is that gal will get more good attention and will have a great and very long life.
