‘Congress on Your Corner’ events pay tribute to Gabrielle Giffords

This is the best response to the shooting that I’ve seen.

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., greets a constituent during a two-hour "Congress on Your Corner" event, Jan. 14, 2011, at her office in Las Vegas. Berkley met with constituents in one of the first public congressional events since an assassination attempt on Arizona’s Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

U.S. Rep. Tim Walz talks with constituent Betty Winkworth during a "Congress on Your Corner" meeting at a supermarket in Mankato, Minn. on Friday. Walz announced the meeting on his website with this statement, “Hearing the thoughts and ideas of southern Minnesotans is the cornerstone of our representative democracy. I am looking forward to the opportunity to hear from folks.”

Let there be something positive to come from this. If someone holds an event in your area, please attend and show that we can be civil, thoughtful people whatever our political leanings might be. Thanks be to those leaders who are going forward with our democratic principles.

Congress on your Corner is in the best tradition of our right to peaceably assemble. Gabby Giffords was carrying on this tradition. As a citizen, I always vote for the candidate who I think will give my town, county, state and nation the best governance.

It is truly heartwarming and encouraging to hear / read that good has come out of evil. I hope that the trend continues, that our representives will truly "...listen better..." and the sensless death of innocence will not be in vain. Like my president, I believe that we can be better.

I live in Tucson and have always been a supporter of Gabriel "Gabby" Giffords. She is a strong, dedicated person. She is moving forward with her recovery amazingly and I am sure that all of the prayers from all over the world are instrumental in her recovery.

I have made a promise to myself to learn and remember the names of all of the victims that died last Saturday and forget the name of the deranged animal that sent our community into a tail-spin.

I live in Tucson as well and have attended Congress on your Corner in the past. I would hope that maybe some day in February every member of congress could hold a Congress on your Corner event the same day in honor of Giffords.

I wish more districts would do a congress on your corner event. I would challenge them to do one a week between now and memorial day and maybe just maybe they might get to ALL corners of their districts/States I wonder how much different the country would be if this was a forced part of the job!
