Remarkable photographs taken from a plane flying over the Brazilian jungle give us a unique insight into the lives of one of the world's last uncontacted tribes.

An undated handout picture released January 31, 2011 by Survival International of what they say are uncontacted Indians seen from a Brazilian government observation aircraft in the Brazilian Amazon forest, near the border with Peru. The Indians appear be to healthy and could be running from Peru due to a invasion of their lands by loggers.
UPDATE: Survival International has confirmed the date of the photographs as June 2010.

Men painted with red and black vegetable dye watch the Brazilian government plane fly overhead
The pictures were taken by the Brazilian government's Indian Affairs Department and released by the NGO Survival International as part of an effort to protect the tribe. They say that the tribe's survival is in serious jeopardy due to an influx of illegal loggers that may have pushed them across the border from neighboring Peru.
The photos show large vegetable gardens where the tribe grow fruit and vegetables; manioc, maize, sweet potato, pumpkin, peanuts, papaya, and bananas can all be identified. They also plant cotton which is spun and woven for skirts. The men have cotton waist bands and some have small head dresses. The men carry bows and arrows for hunting.
Survival's Director Stephen Corry said 'The illegal loggers will destroy this tribe. It's vital that the Peruvian government stop them before time runs out. The people in these photos are self-evidently healthy and thriving. What they need from us is their territory protected, so that they can make their own choices about their future.'

UPDATE: A number of readers have cast doubt on the veracity of the photographs - perhaps best summed up by this comment from allcarfan:
These are the same photos that were showed two years ago that were proven to be FAKE!!!
A set of photographs of the tribe were indeed published by msnbc.com and others in May 2008. However, the images above - which were made available to the media for the first time yesterday - are not the same photographs. A Survival International spokesperson has just confirmed to me that the images were taken in June 2010. For the sake of clarity and accuracy, I have therefore updated the title of this post to say Newly-released photos rather than New photos.
The controversy over the 2008 pictures was sparked by an article in The Observer headlined Secret of the "lost" tribe that wasn't. Later in 2008, Stephen Pritchard, that newspaper's readers' editor, wrote a follow-up piece in which he said the original article had misrepresented the situation.
Survival International has a series of questions and answers about uncontacted tribes, which explains further their definition of 'uncontacted'.
You can view the 2008 pictures in this Nightly News report, which also dates from that year:
UPDATE 2: Film footage of the tribe has now been released. Click here to watch it.

Why don't you people get real? These are Navajo's from the rez here in Arizona. They didn't want to be part of Obamas new health care regeime so they left for the Amazon jungle. Brazil gives them all they want anyway, at a fraction of the cost they'd pay here. Leave 'em alone. The white bowl you see in the photo was purchased from Wal-Mart when the prices were rolled-back, and yes, the guy with his hand to his ear is chatting on a Blackberry cell phone. He's ordering the new manual on planting and caring for banana plants The machete was purchased from Alexe's Trading Post and Supply center located in Chinle, Az. Some of the clothes were purchased by a secret agent from the tribe at Target in Phoenix. As Paul would say..."Now you know the rest of the story, goodday!"
That is a very good investigative reporting cross-hair.
There is a serious legal civil right and human right violation if indeed these people who are native to the region are driven off their land by Peru or Brazil. These people need to be represented by internal community of legal experts to insure the vast land which they occupy remains their holding. If Peru or Brazil want to dismantle these people they must pay these people the current market value of the land with foreseeable future mineral right share as well. The territory was theirs once and it still is. The days of brutal occupation and massacre of Natives has to end. So where are the human right advocates.
Palin would have no problem going in with her gun and "blasting them".

What do you base your statement on, other than hatred?
This whole thing was found to be a hoax a long time ago. The bowl is actually a coated steel pot with a handle and the knife blade is steel as well. Im sorry folks but these natives have no means of smelting metals. They may be remote, but certainly not uncontacted.
I hear Brazil has like 50X the natural resources that the United States has; so if race is only skin deep - why don't these people have a higher 'standard of living'? Or do they just "choose" to live as one with the land?
Depending on your values most of you probably wouldn't agree with me. I truly believe that their lives are actually better than the average person's in the so called "civilized" world. Nothing to worry about except growing your own food and a bit of hunting (until some asshle from the civilized world screws it up for you) They may not live as long, but they probably have better natural medicines that don't poison them and have all sorts of side effects. Quality of life is better than longevity. Probably a much more rewarding life if you ask me. Would they adopt me? Where do I sign up?
You're right, 'ignorance is bliss'. Since you're not as ignorant, you'd be miserable there most likely. Let's face it, these people are living the same way their ancestors lived for thousands of years in the same way animals do.
NoSaint
When are you heading down there to join them?
Why won't anyone answer my questions? I'll be back later to see if anyone has legit answers.
I also looked at the other side of the coin. We also need to be careful that this is not some FED task force operation to draw human-right activist and environmentalist out in the open for entrapment. The FED's are known to have done this sort of reporting only to lure political organizations and activist and set them up for frivolous charges.
Do human activist ask people like this what they want for their lives or tell them what is the "better" way to live? Um?
If they have not been contacted/affected by the outside world how come they have what looks like a white porcelain pan. Look at the ground infront of the person pointing, in the first picture.
We can solve the problem by sending 1.5 billion dollars to Peru, the illegal loggers and these "uncontacted" peoples like we send to Egypt every year then everybody will be happy. Especially the "tree huggers."
Someplace along the way they've contacted the "civilian" side of society, that appears to be a porcelian pot and they have some cloth, and a metal point on a spear.
Leave them alone, they don't need us!
There was a detailed special about this on Discovery or Nat Geo roughly 8 months ago. Worse, this article is little more than a recap of that special. News is timely and informative, this is something else...
Leave them alone. They are at least not trying to find a shelter or food stamps or medicaid. Civilization is not what it is cracked up to be sometimes.
Thousands of miles of from civilization in the heart of the Amazon their are most deffinitely tribes that have not been contacted. And even if a hundred years ago explorers traded a machete for food they are still considered uncontacted by the modern world. Its people like all of yinz that cause these tribes to be killed of and/or exploited. And your the reason an area in the rainforest the size of Rhode Island is destroyed every single day. And, your right they must be too dumb to make a simple bowl out of clay which gets bleached by the sun. The Amazon is such a large place, alot of which is unexplored, there are most deffinitley individuals, families, and tribes that have not been contacted. Your right tho they probally plug their phones in the electrical outlets that they have, fill their chainsaws with gasoline, and run to the local 7/11. Perhaps we should kill off all but a few, then tell that few that it is fine because they can have a casino. They are extremely lucky they have been uncontacted because they do not have to interact with you morons. Perhaps we should take you all out in the jungle to be shot then the world would be a better place. Respect the journalists that are trying to protect these tribes and the rainforest dont trash them.
The group photo needs the caption: "So are you here to fix the freakin cable or what dude"
So another bunch of indians bites the dust... Seriously, how the hell do you plan on turning back the clock of time? Not that it wouldn't be nice that humans were so sick, but who cares about some photos? Does that alter the fact that the process has been going on for some time and that "civilized man" insists on raping everything in its path and reshaping everything regardless of the substrate's wishes?
On the other hand, this friggin NGO is no better than "civilized man" himself... Bunch of goons sitting around a desk eating donuts and drumming up sensationalist releases for want of something real to do with their lives. (Gasp) I have more respect for the loggers who are trying to survive than these bozos. The loggers are just trying to support their families. It's the rich kids and parasitic scumbags that caused this situation in the first place, now they found some new entertainment: conservating the environment!
As for the rest of the commenters, are you aware the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary this year? I heard there's a lineup in the Rockefeller Center so they can select the best candidate to illustrate the meaning of the word. I think all of you should get in line (except the one who picket up on that pan and the machete; that's not iron age stuff, boys; and, by the way, "uncontacted" tribes do not use iron; the stone age might have been transcended 400 years ago in South America, but it was because of contact with Europeans! And the Incas weren't some random small tribe; they worked bronze, but there were millions of them, that's not the same as a dozen red painted gnomes running around with bird feathers. It's absurd for anyone to expect that they will produce a white enameled pot of perfect proportions. But that's just one logical opinion, there's lots of retards who'll deny reality). Thank you for listening, geniuses.
well if you ask me; they are the same photos that were prooven to be fake back in 2008;i saw them then and i can see these now, no difference,, probly, same plane, same camera, and same people standing in the exact same spot,, must be a slow news day it this reporters office...........
For there own protection, they should be put in a zoo, so they don't become extinct.
I'll say this: Who ever they are, those people have gigantic feet! Wide and long.
Looks like the same photos exposed as a hoax not so long ago
Hey, wingnuts: Even if it's not an "uncontacted tribe," they still need their habitat to live in. We should still protect them. I'm bloody sick of loggers raping this planet. The argument against curtailing logging is that it provides jobs. By that logic, hit-men should be legal because murder keeps them employed.
I think we should mine our own oil as we have more proven oil reserves than all of the Middle East combined then render that part of the world as significant and obscure as this part of the Brazilian undiscovered natives. The only reason the middle east has the bully pulpit is because they have the oil, without that they will return to nomad status. What the hell is wrong with us?
I see a blade in the girls hand and a what seems to be a white pan nect to a rock in the first picture how is this if they have not had contact with people?
Two weeks max, they'll have a McDonalds and a Walmart
I have no doubt that there are tribes we have not contacted in the world, however, I don't really believe these are legitimate. Look in the first photo, there is a metal pot of some kind in the picture. Where did that come from if they are, indeed and in fact, 'uncontacted'?
