On Twitter, Nevine Zaki linked to a picture she said she photographed on Wednesday of Christians protecting Muslims during their prayers in Tahrir Square. The square in Cario continues to be a scene of violence between pro- and anti-Mubarak supporters who were wielding sticks and throwing rocks. She tweeted:
Bear in mind that this pic was taken a month after z Alexandria bombing where many Christians died in vain. Yet we all stood by each other

هذا هو الطبيعي فنحن أخوه مايجري في عروقنا هو دم واحد لن يفرقنا أي شئ مهما حدث مصر وطن يعيش داخلنا
The preceding comment in Arabic translates as:
"This is natural for we are brethren, what runs in our veins is the same blood. We shall not be divided no matter what. Whatever happens, Egypt is a homeland that lives inside us [all].
Absolutely inspiring; the Egyptian people have provided a reminder to all of us about what democracy means, what it can cost, and why it should never be taken for granted.
The photo, itself, is magnificent, with close-ups of two of the protectors: one with a big smile, the other looking alert and concerned. They are exhilarated by their movement, but also realize the possibility that, at the same time, realize the danger and precariousness of their situation. Nevine Zaki may have an award-winning shot here. :)
I believe that this is the most beautiful picture ever taken since 11 Sept. 2001. Thank you for encouraging us.
:')
This picture always hits me hard. it's such a beautiful example of the depths of compassion and solidarity in the human race. Just wonderful.
