Colombian soldiers guard a homemade submersible in a rural area of Timbiqui, Colombia, on Feb. 14, 2011. A submersible has the capacity to transport eight tons of cocaine, and it can sail from Colombia to Mexico. The Colombian Army said they found the sub on the southwestern coast of the Colombian Pacific Ocean.

Colombian Army discovers a drug smuggling submersible in Timbiqui, Colombia

I was a passenger on a U.S. Navy submarine and few years ago, and I was completely overwhelmed by how complex and dangerous a submarine is. So many things can go wrong at any time. It seemed to me that the submariners’ well-practiced skills and professionalism are the only things that prevent tragedies from happening every day. It’s difficult to imagine a drug smuggling organization approaching that kind of skill and organization. Maybe we underestimate them.

El Tiempo Newspaper reports:
Officials were surprised at the advanced technology used to make the 100 ft. long vessel, which allows for complete submersion, making it virtually undetectable.

Mexico should just admit they can't be a "real" country, will never be a "real"country, and have all lost control and ability to reverse the course. Their own people don't want to be there, but want to come here and waive their flags, plaster it on our used cars (they bought for cash), and proudly display them on their homes/businesses. Truthfully, if they like Amercia that much they should just hand over their country so we can make it great too. At least then we have a chance of stopping this crap.

Search on youtube for narco subs. Pretty interesting. Been going on for years. They are getting more and more advanced. They're even talking about vessels travelling from South America all the way to Europe. Crazy.

Mr Chase/ Mr Shepard, Both are correct ! But off topic. The submarines are old news. When Drug cartels have more money then they can spend, they buy toys, like airplanes, race cars, speed boats, why not submarines? They have our money. As for trying to get by a USN Los Angeles class submarines, in one of these cartel financed submarines Good Luck!

Folks have seen this kind of stuff before with the same kind of story line. It was done, for example, by National Geographic; cf. news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/07/photogalleries/100713-cocaine-submarines-subs-smuggling-drugs-world-crime-pictures/

For those who perhaps feel that I have digressed a bit and have gotten off topic I plead 'guilty as charged.' LOL I do have a bit of a tendency to get on my soap box now and again. For some reason discussions that have to do with any kind of moral legislation or social restrictions to individual rights of self determination I tend to expound a little too heavily sometimes. :=)) So for that I appoligize to all.

Oh and regarding the Los Angeles class of submarine being dispatched to counter the possible threat of these low tech submersibles I really rather doubt the reality of that. It probably costs more to operate one of them for an hour than it cost the cartel to build the ones they are using to smuggle drugs into the U.S. LOL It is kind of like the RC model airplanes that they sometimes use to fly contraband across our borders. It is really unlikely that we will launch a flight of F22 Raptors to dispatch a few $300.00 model airplanes pre-programmed to fly below the radar and follow a GPS guided flight plan to a remote crash site where the material is recovered. We need to learn the art of using "small tactics to counter small threats" so that we don't waste a lot of money dealing with them. Lets see. How about a Cigarette speed boat previously confiscated from drug runners equipped with a good quality sonar and some old WWII depth charges from our old arsenal storage? I don't know, it just sort of sells itself don't you think? HEH HEH HEH HEH
