Rough surf lashes a pier near a lighthouse at Douro's river mouth in Porto, Portugal, Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011. Strong winds and heavy rain have been battering Portugal in the past few days.

Nice Photo, but a little contrasty for The Phrog. Where's the Lighting Crew for the lighthouse on this?
This is a completely new harbor built over the last decade, and rightly intended to stop these type of waves penetration into the mouth of the river Douro's. Which was before this protective harbor was built, these type of waves would disturb the sandy soil on the river bed at the mouth of the river, causing narrowing and blocking the river it's self and off-course disturbing or halting it's shipping traffic.
The lighthouse is not maned, it is fully automatic as so many of the worlds lighthouses are to-day, progress, cost cutting and a cause off unemployment.
What do you think?
Does this not give perspective of the size of those waves. Nice shot!!
