A motorists calls for help after climbing out of a vehicle that ended up on a guardrail in the median of Interstate 295 during a snow storm in Cumberland, Maine, on Friday, Feb. 25.

Well, now what? SUV comes to rest on guardrail during blizzard

What ember identity I hold as a Southerner, little stokes it as much as the sight of a Yankee who's gone off the road in an ice storm.

Especially one driving an SUV.

Especially one driving a Mercedes SUV.

I agree. I was tickled pink when I saw it's a Mercedes. And she did it in such grand fashion.

What ember identity I hold as a Northerner, little stokes it as much as the sight of a Redneck who's blown away by a hurricane.

Especially one driving a pickup truck.

Especially one driving a rusty old redneck pickup truck (with an alligator on the hood).

Yeah I had a moronic moment, too.

Hurricanes have had their way with Northern Cities... Ever heard of Hog Island in New York City.

I lived in the South for a long time, and virtually every ice storm we ever had I had to listen to some Yankee talk about how crappy Southern drivers are in winter... not recognizing that we don't get friendly snow, but instead freezing rain and black ice from snow melt....

Then I move North and find out Yankees aren't any better at it really.

But I suppose wherever you are you have to endure some drowning yokel talk about what a breeze some hurricane is.

I also have to laugh at people who consciously decide they're going to ride out hurricanes... 5 years in Charleston SC was enough.

OK... looking at that traffic I doubt she was speeding, well at least not until she went off of the road, no, my bet would be texting!

Hey, all, she may be a Northerner but I have to believe that she's not a Mainer. Maine people don't drive Mercedes vehicles. She must have been trying to pass all those other cars lined up in the travel lanes. True Mainers are patient in adversity.

it is hard to feel sorry for someone who's gone off the road in a Mercedes. How the hell did she manage to get hung up on the guardrail??

Well, don't feel too bad for her yet. Due to the price of the vehicle, she probably did not total it. In all likelihood, it will be repaired and she will get to drive the ill-handling beast for the rest of its natural existence.

I'm not to try and top any of the comments that have already been made. Although I must admit that if someone had described this to me without me actually seeing it for myself I wouldn't have believed them.

Is it my imagination or is that guard rail very short!!!! I'm still asking myself how the hell did the driver managed to accomplish this. It's very amusing.

ok, this is on my way home.  I would like to correct the person who wrote that Mainers don't drive Mercedes....have you ever been to cumberland, maine?  I wisely took an alternate route as my boss called to tell me I-295 was at a stand still, and now I see why!  Road conditions were awful today, what a mess!

My first question, well, my first question after "how in the world did she do that" was "why in the world is she out of the car in such bad weather and bad driving conditions?" Stay in your car so you don't become the next casualty!

Exactly. I had to scroll down 3/4 of the page to finally find someone who thought the same as me. A sad, sad state of affairs in the blogging world as well.

Are those tracks behind the car.... as if she was driving on the shoulder to get around traffic?

You can see her tracks come off the road about 3 car lengths back.

She's not calling for help, she calling in a claim to her insurance company! Believe me, I take those claims for insurance companies, so I know, anything to make call!

Hey Guys don't think it is just a female thing. About a month ago I saw a man do the same thing only with a mid size car on a snow covered guard rail that was much higher then this one. It was in Brunswick Maine he was driving on the on-ramp to I-295 north. I had to laugh when the cop and the guy were looking at the car up on the snow covered guard rail their faces were level with the tires. AND it was not even snowing that day.

                        Leave to a man lol

She didn't drive off the road; that is actually a new monorail we have in southern Maine to attract tourists. It leads to an EPCOT-like "World of Tomorrow" complete with lobster traps and a bait store.

Dont jump to conclusions , while she may have climbed over the center console , at that point it would not matter which side you exited ...... and a Male may still be behind the wheel , and she is out walking off steam .

The female got out of the passenger side of the car - I don't believe there is enough information to understand who was actually driving the car - someone may still be sitting in the driver seat. Motorist does not necessarily mean driver.

Given the short length of the tracks, and that they're almost 90 degrees off the road path - I'd take the guess that the motorist was traveling too fast and slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a car in front of them. The car skids sideways and with snow plowed up to and against the guard rail, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to think the car could climb the snow bank and get straddled on the railing.

I drive an older model of that Mercedes. It handles well in snow, but in heavy snow, the windshield wipers easily get clogged with ice, making a clear view out of the front hard.

You have no sympathy bc its a Mercedes? Really? We see what you've worked hard for, accomplished, and earned in your lives now don't we? In all likelihood she earned that Mercedes one way or another just like you earned whatever it is you're driving.
