We see a lot of pictures of South Korean marines showing us how tough they are. The top photo may be a little closer to the truth.

I was going to say that would be ideal for the USA to institute mandatory service for it's population reaching the age of 18.
However, that would require the USA maintain budget to train over 2 million kids reaching the age of 18 every year.
So, if you think it's a good idea for mandatory service, make sure you're coming up with a way to get it done.
I still think it's worth it, but far too many children of politically-connected means will be exempted, and the sacrifice will continue to be on the working families and not those families, people and corporations who most benefit from geopolitical stability made possible by USA Armed Forces.
