Amazing. It's nice to see a bit of good news out of Japan, and what a riveting story this man must have to tell. See more images of the unfolding situation in Japan here.

In a picture released by the Japanese Defense Agency on March 13, sixty-year-old survivor Hiromitsu Shinkawa, right, is shown as crew members of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Aegis vessel Choukai sail to rescue him, about 9.3 miles (15 km) off Fukushima prefecture. The Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer rescued Shinkawa after discovering him floating on a piece of roof in waters off Fukushima Prefecture two days after the disaster struck. The man, from the city of Minamisoma which has been virtually obliterated, was swept out along with his house after the massive tsunami tore into Japan's northeast following a 8.9-magnitude earthquake on Friday.

I wonder how many other people are floating out there on debris.
We need to thank God everyday that we live here in the United States!
I don't think people in New Orleans would agree
Seriously Larry?? You don't think that a natural disaster like this could happen here??? Plenty of people were stuck in New Orleans... while the President kept right on rocking. The cultural emperialism needs to stop!!!!!
What? Do you think there's some sort of safety zone enveloping the U.S. that other countries don't have?
Or do you think that we're so much more advanced and educated that we could mitigate the situation much more effectively?
I don't understand your comment at all.
"we need to thank God we live in the united states'?
I guess the almighty doesnt allow natural disasters here,,,hmmm bet the survivors of Katrina and any other number of disasters would beg to differ
dont worry folks our time is coming the earth is changing, in the last six months to a year we have seen an ever relentless increase of tsunami, earthquakes tornados etc. the end is near and we all have a front row seat even in the greatest country in the world USA. maybe the anchient mayans are right is 2012 the time of change?
All Generals pray to their God before the battle. The Almighty does not interfear in the affairs of men.
Continue to lift up our Japanese brother and sisters. What a mess!
Larry Whitworth's stupid comment could only come from an American. Gee Larry, I guess you weren't paying attention to what happened during Hurricane Katrina. The president and emergency services did almost nothing. Gee, let the darkies die is what they were thinking.
And what about the numerous floods, and other hurricanes, tornadoes and what not we have here?
Thank you BlogShag and numerous others for your comments. Very informative and yet Im sure Hurricane Katrina is known to Larry Whitworth, who if can own a computer and can apparently type, must know of the atrocity of that event.
Its understood that we , the United States of America have suffered through such horrific disasters. Yet, this isn't, at this time, about the United States Maybe, if reading between the lines... Mr. Whitworth meant that it is a blessing that we havent been through such devastation as of yet.
Yes, Katrina has happened and we are still being affected. But looking at Japan as a whole and the Stats and numbers.... my goodness.. the Deaths, the Tsunami...Whirpool...Other places that were affected by the Tsunami.. This is Huge and dare i say in devastation, lives, and affects..etc.. is more bleak than Katrina. We look at the media coverage around those times.. but what of Japan....? Lets think about that and pray for the lives of those people.
Well said, GeekLaurel. New Orleans was just nature taking back what was rightfully hers. It was unfortunate that so many people were duped into believing the "man made" area was safe. That is the sad part. These natural disasters, which are happening more and more frequently, are hard to comprehend...the devastation is so massive.
I have only lived in the United States and stayed for short periods of time in a few of the Islands. I don't know what living in some of these countries would be like, with the dictators and all, that those people are at the mercy of. I was blown away to hear about Haiti having stored up all the aid and not distributing it to the people after their disaster. That storehouse looked like a Wal-Mart Storehouse by the pictures I saw. Whether they ever got to see any of it or only a privileged few I don't know. But I understand that is the "norm" in most other countries. I'm sure that is the basis of what was meant by Larry Witworth. I know I feel the same and do thank God everyday that He placed me here in this country. I am a "spoiled brat" compared to those people who are in the Islands off Florida. I never knew how good we had it until I went to a "third-world country", as they are called.
The Bible speaks of these disasters happening in Matthew 25 "in many places". And in Peter, that "the earth will melt with a fervent heat", not by a flood again. It seems to me that there is not much we can do to stop theses disasters, only help those that are affected by them. Thank God for those who can go and physically help these people with service and aid. It seems the walls of differences comes down as we become just human beings helping human beings. I'm sure we will have our turn. The question is: "When?"
