Devastation in Japan looks similar to a familiar scene from 1945

Sadly, this is not the first time Japan has seen the kind of devastation it is facing today. When I saw the picture of the man in Minamisanriku, I was reminded of Stanley Troutman's famous image taken at the end of World War II in Hiroshima. The 8.9 earthquake that caused the tsunami released energy that was "equivalent to 6.7 trillion tons of TNT, about a thousand times the combined power of all the world's nuclear weapons," according to a piece in the Daily Mail.
