About 1,200 people were trapped inside the Sendai Airport passenger terminal when the earthquake and resulting tsunami struck on March 11. They remained cut off from all outside contact and had to survive on their own for more than two days until help arrived. This panoramic image, made on March 17, shows the damage to the interior of the airport. (Masaki Furumaya / Sankei Shimbun / MSN Japan)

The highwater mark on the escalators? That blew me away.I hope they make it into a mini memorial,if they can save the structure, that is.
It could happen anywhere, puts you to thinkin; what would you do? MAY GOD BLESS THOSE PEOPLE....
...It's very sad...It will take years to clean that all up...but the devastation will always live on in their memory
I don't mean to be negative or an ogre, but why was the U.S. MILITARY asked to clean up the airport in Sendai? Don't they have enough to keep them occupied?!!!! I mean, Afganistan, Iraq, Libya.....and God knows what else! Isn't there another country on earth that can be a good samaritan besides the good old USA all the time? Come on people of the world, you've got to be out there somewhere.................
The US immediately volunteered to help. Any country that is willing could have been accepted and several were. We volunteered and we go through with our promises. We have enough resources to be in the different countries we are in. I find it very prideful that the US is helping. If I were physically capable, I would be there today helping. The Japanese people need as much help as they can get. I pray for them daily.
The devastation is incredible. I was amazed that the building structure itself looks like it is in pretty good structural shape. If the earth quake hit this area so severly, I am surprized to see no signs of maor cracks in the ceiling beams, the stairway, or any of the strutural elements. It looks like the structural design of this building was very well done to withstand the shocks of the 9.0 magnitude earthquake. We in the US should learn from their design.
I am still sorry for the people, for the unexpected suffering they must be going through at this time. They need all the help that they get from the world community.
I feel sad on the destruction in Japan. I pray to God to help them recover quickly. We know Japanese are resillient and strong, they can survive..... God bless you all.
Thank you MSNBC for giving up an update of what is happening in Japan. We, outside of Japan, are able to know the latest because of your news. More power to all your staff. God bless you all!
If I were in this situation, I would be so thankful the U.S. was coming to my rescue. When these tragedies stike, it is good to know the U.S. is the first to step up to the plate.
Incredible more life wasnt lost. The human spirit is amazing. We get back up, shake oueselves off and rebuild. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and friends affected directly and indirectly. With the world community behind you,and your own government, we can only hope for as speedy a recovery as humanly possible. Paul.
I was shock when I saw in Television that the houses, boats, cars etc has been taken by water and like a scraper down the road. For all the people of Japan and your great country and governance. I always pray to "Almighty God" who create Heaven and Earth that you will recover the damages very soon.
And all the people who lost their Love Ones "They will be all in Heaven". And also all the countries who step forward for the rescue operations. God will Bless you all, for all your Good Deeds and Good Intensions.
May our Almighty Creator will Bless Us All...Amen.
