Some really fun images coming in now as two nations share their passion for the game of cricket.
David Arnott posted an earlier piece on the preparations and politics behind the game here.
Also, here's a sports story about the matchup, and another story about the leaders of India and Pakistan enjoying the game together.

Taxi drivers in Bombay announced they wouldn't ply during the match, patients and doctors canceled non emergency procedures, this game brought two countries to a virtual standstill. And Indian won!!!!! Whoohooooo!!!!!
A lot of emotional energy invested in this game and the dividends were sweet. Go get that world cup India...
Very Good Game played by both sides, This is not world war 111. Best wishes to both them. The 29-run victory, which enabled India to maintain its unbeaten record against the arch-rivals in 36 years of World Cup history, was the result of some brilliant bowling and fielding show by the home side after its much-vaunted batting line-up had posted a modest 260/9 to which man-of-the match Sachin Tendulkar made a lucky 85-run contribution. India now meet Sri Lanka in the final in Mumbai on Saturday in a bid to win the coveted Cup for the second time since it first stunned the cricketing world by beating West Indies in 1983 at the Lords.
Living in Texas for the past 10 years, I have not lost one bit of passion for this game. I woke up at 3:30AM to watch this game. In the end it was totally worth it.
For people in the US who dont follow or understand the game: To give a perspective and comparison of India vs. Pakistan cricket rivalry. Take UT vs. TAMU football game and multiply by some large number that wont fit in your calculator and that will give the intensity and passion associated with this legendary rivalry.
Oh like Boston vs. Yankees in Baseball? Please...
absolutely ..... like boston vs yankees; or michigan state vs ufm; or ND vs ohio state !
This match was probably bigger than the actual final that's going to be played this weekend.
How lovely to see such joy in these faces. Nice that they could enjoy a "time out" from the usual strains of poverty (and war) that these two countries endure.
Is that last picture of an entire family in India? ;) I wonder who was taking all the tech support calls while this was happening?
Indians are so tolerant that they would even find your remark funny. And if you don't watch out and work hard, they will take your jobs away by easily outworking you. You won't find it funny then.
@ Voice of Reason-2985913....Smart reply...I know a young boy who works in New Delhi, customer service of a MAJOR computer company.....shall withhold the brand name. While desperately trying to help an American, obviously a dumb American, the caller started abusing him and India. Smart as he was he made the caller do a couple of steps on his computer and effectively blanked out his entire drive!!!Haaaa...
Most Americans here sit on their massive behinds and all they do all day is think about what to stuff their mouth during their next meal.
While the answer is most likely NO, I wouldn't be surprised if it is actually true.
Just kidding .... Indians in that photo are getting together to enjoy the game just like we here get together for a superbowl party!
This is great. I am super happy.
Menaka Indrani
Great photos. It's looks like they enjoy their sports the same way we enjoy ours. Now, how about some game highlights? Or something to school us in how the sport is played?
Here u go...
Yeah, nice pictures, but I had to go to the BBC to get the score. What is wrong with MSNBC that they can't give the score of such a big game?
Hey, a little explanation of cricket for us idiot Americans. I'd like to know what all the excitement is about.
Here u go..

Hey! I thought the first picture was a couple of Tea Party candidates who just threw thier hat's in for the Presidential race in 2012.
I was forced to watch a cricket match in its entirity for the first time and let me tell you. This game that we have inherited from our British masters is a total waste of time. I mean come on 9 hours. Think about life stands still for those 9 hours in India and it is mostly on week days. Oh nation please wake up and do something productive if you want to become a world leader. This British sport which is mostly fixed these days by illegal bookies is a con scheme designed by western companies to keep our younger generation away from work and school.
Fuddy Duddy!
If you really are a Patel, you are grossly ignorant. The game of Cricket is derived from and an offshoot of and has evolved from the wonderful game of Gulli Danda. It is not British at all! The British just appropriated it and made it their own and sold it back to you. Just like they did with all your natural resources, mined it, manufactured it and sold it back to you. Same thing with the Indian Sanatan Dharam! All the Vedic teachings can be found in the Bible and the Koran. The story of Sindbad, the Aesop's Fables are also from the Hitoupshad and the Jatak Tales. The sad part is that India, and people like you have also forgotten their original culture and adopted the British/western way! Savvy?! Kemo Sabe!
Wow Adrews Gunj. The latter half of your message is absolutely correct. Lord Macaulay was successful when he said: "have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.
Well, I guess it's better than India and Pakistan fighting each other in war......now if they can figure out a way to live next to each other in peace for a change.
U r comparing this to Yankees vs. Boston? R u kidding?
First of all, this is a TRUE world cup with 14 countries participating (England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Ireland, Netherland, Canada, Bangladesh, Kenya, Zimbabwe ) and yes U.S. didn't qualify.
Second, this event is held once in 4 years akin to FIFA.
Third - Over 1.8 billion (billion with a B) watched this over 8 hours (between 5 AM EST and 1 PM). If any of the South Asians took off from work or were silently screaming from their desks in your offices during this time - you now know why. They were watching it live on streaming media on internet.
Yankees vs. Red Sox... Ha!!
rightly said...
