"Dear Mommy. I hope you're alive. Are you okay?" 4-year-old quake survivor writes

In this March 22 photo, Manami Kon, using Japanese hiragana characters she just learned, writes a letter for her mother who's still missing after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami at the devastated city of Miyako, northeastern Japan. The 4-year-old Manami wrote, "Dear Mommy. I hope you're alive. Are you okay?" It took about an hour for her to finish it. Twenty days after the disaster that hit Japan's northeastern coast, her parents and a sister were still unaccounted for.

After reading all of the comments, I realize that Mankind will never cease to amaze me.

In life if we all stick to the issues and stop personal attacks I feel that together we could accomplish much.

I pray that God watches over Manami Kon, and please God bless and comfort all who are suffering.

The God thing inhibits what you discuss.

This sad piece of a human being wishing people dead because Japan kills whales? All creatures are good to eat and even though I do not care to eat whale I certainly wouldn't generalize a population or condemn them for eating it. Not all Japanese eat whales anyway. We kill animals for food and if God himself said it was okay for us to do so, who are we to judge those who do? Genesis 9: 3,4 "Every moving animal that is alive may serve as food for YOU. As in the case of green vegetation, I do give it all to YOU. 4 Only flesh with its soul—its blood—YOU must not eat." Blood is the only thing we are to abstain from, not animal flesh.

That's why the blood sausage feels so sinful!

      Pequen i agree,

this reminds me of the Westboro Baptist Church and how all Christians are going to be subject to the stereotypes those poor excuses for flesh are creating for them. We cannot label everyone in a country bad just because a small group within has practices we don't agree with. If that were the case every country would be doomed.

And you dont see "this sad piece of a human being wishing people dead" because the US kills bears, deer, and almost all wildlife we have available to us. We do the same thing moron (not you pequen)! we just choose different animals to do it to. how does that make it any better?

and an fyi to anyone who feels like being combative: i have no religion. i just simply do not wish anyone to have to suffer under a stereotype. Its cruel.

I get the biggest laugh from animal lovers who delusionally believe themselves to be some wonderful human beings. Again and again, this is proven in my mind. Either you are a scummy human being or you are not, irrespective of how much you adore animals and have bizarre sense of animal rights belief in your heart. OK? And a loser is still a loser... so never argue with losers in this world especially utterly worthless and delusional ones like Whatmins in our world. I get a huge belly laugh out of losers like those I have to encounter in this life. And westernized mentality is a joke in itself mostly... whaling and dolphin killing gets your goat but you have no problem eating up all the cows, foie gras, veal, or chicken just to name the vast farmed and consumed animals in this world? What makes whales and dolphins so special? Animal lovers being miserable human beings always gets me a huge belly laugh... it proves to me what delusional pricks they truly are as human beings. Basically in my view; utterly worthless as human beings if you adore select few animals but hate human beings.

I'm not sure why you are all so surprised by the horrible comment posted by whatmins. PETA has long been known for its ridiculous and insensitive tactics. As an animal lover, I have disassociated myself from this organization. Support the ASPCA/National Wildlife Organization/local shelters instead!

So far, so good. What is the price for denying God, eternal torment? I'll take that bet. God works in mysterious ways - for the ignorant and the hapless.

However, idiots like whatmins gives us all a bad name. this a** does NOT represent us! he is an isolated incident; a blurp on the screen if you will...of no importance. Let's concentrate our energy & prayers on the real victims. My heart goes out to all of them....

Then we need better people like you in PETA as well. I am sure most of us thought PETA was joking when they made a big deal out of President Obama swatting a fly dead; but sadly PETA was not joking. There are nuts running PETA in the upper echelon. Thus, it mostly attracts nuts sadly. And why ignore miserable human beings? I get great enjoyment out of ridiculing them. If Whatmins was joking, it still is a douche. If it was being serious, even a bigger douche. Delusional douches of this world makes me laugh and laugh. You should laugh, not get angry. I just hope the douche is not a parent. It will just simply raise more douches like it. And douches like it never have the guts to say anything to anyone in person. Because it is a douche and a delusional one at that.

It breaks my heart to know that there are children that will not see their families again. I don't know what I would do if I could not see my son or grandson ever again or know what happened to them. Let's try to ignore the ignorance of of some and focus our attention on the importance of life and family. I hope this little girl and all other people of Japan that are looking for their loved ones are reunited soon. My hopes are with all of you!!

As for some of the people posting here...nothing like a tragedy to bring out the best...and WORST in people. Doesn't anyone remember the golden rule? If you can't say anything nice, keep your fat trap shut because you won't find sympathy from anyone that matters.

Unfortunately this poor baby isn't the only one waiting, the complete devestation these children and adults have gone through will be haunting them for decades. One can only pray that this child and others will soon come to realize some sort of normalcy. God only knows they all have had to grow far beyond their few short years already.

I would gladly take in a couple of these children until their families can rebuild their lives in Japan.  If there is an organization that is wanting and willing to make this happen I wish someone would let me know. Also, I would be willing to adopt a child of any age that needs a home.....I have my own children, but I know there are many children that lost both their parents in all the horrible events that have occurred over there. I pray for all the people in Japan and wish there was more I could do. God bless you all!!

What a pathetic lowlife. On the other hand we have a wonderful little four year old girl who epitomizes hope and humanity in the midst of overwhelming tragedy. It shows that life balances itself out.... the little Manami's of the world outshine and cancel out the worthless whatmins of society.
