An art installation consisting of eight Hills Hoists clothes lines complemented by eight 'mums hanging out washing' is seen at Bondi Beach on May 1, in Sydney, Australia. The installation is the latest in a series of surrealist works by artist Andrew Baines, this time to highlight the loss of the typical backyard due to the increase of high density living. The Hills Hoist is considered the epitome of Australian backyards, with Bondi Beach considered Sydney's backyard.

Artist highlights the cost of high-density living in Sydney

There is something about clothes hung out on a line that a "fresh air" dryer sheet or detergent will never be able to duplicate.

I couldn't live a complete life, held up inside "4 walls". I require a place outdoors that provides me with fresh air streaming across an open field, sunshine on my skin and quietude to replenish my inner soul.

I relate to the clothes line and the labor required to carry, clip, hang, unclip, fold, and move clothings and linens alike.

I agree that there will never be anything to replace the feeling that one gets from the scent of a fresh air-dried linens. Thanks for the memory.
