Jilted bride saved in suicide drama

A jilted bride-to-be was dragged to safety after threatening to leap from a seventh-story window after her fiancé married another woman, Reuters reported. Watch video in new window.

A 22-year-old woman in a wedding gown is grabbed by Guo Zhongfan, a local community officer, as she attempts to kill herself by jumping out of a seven-story residential building in Changchun, Jilin province, China on May 17. According to local media, the woman tried to commit suicide after her boyfriend of four years broke up with her, just as they were making plans to get married. The woman did not sustain any injuries during the incident.

Dressed in her wedding gown, a college student identified only as Miss Li climbed out on the window ledge of the building in Changchun city in northeast China.

According to local TV, the 22-year-old sobbed and swung her legs out the window for about an hour before police officers arrived.

Li said she could not live with the fact her fiancé had left her and married another woman just days before their wedding, local TV said.

The woman sits on a windowsill before attempting to jump.

Reuters reported that the woman lived on the fourth floor of the building but made her way to another apartment upstairs.

As dozens of people looked on, authorities arrived at the seventh-floor dwelling determined to prevent Li from taking her own life.

Television footage showed a local official named Guo Zhongfan holding Li by her neck and arms as she dangled above the street.

From left: Guo Zhongfan grabs hold of the woman; other people assist from below; the woman is pulled inside the building.

Changchun Television said she pushed herself off the ledge before she was grabbed by Guo. A man in the apartment below assisted in the rescue by reaching out the window and pushing Li’s feet up.

The crowd gathered below applauded Guo after the woman was pulled back inside.

"I did what anyone would have done," Guo told reporters.

Li was later taken to hospital.

I am glad they saved her. She is a beautiful young lady with her whole life ahead of her - and it would be foolish to throw it away over some guy who left her just before their wedding. I hope they get her back on her feet and living / enjoying life again ASAP. She should not waste it over a guy that is not worth it.

They really did not save her - Aceman - she would have never jumped in the first place. If they would have just waited she would have come back in on her own - right around dinner time.

My God - this is SO sad. She is so beautiful, yet so broken inside, to consider taking her life. He did the ultimate cruel thing. Wishing people would not treat each other in this fashion. I TRULY hope she will soon see her worth, and that she will rise above this and NEVER think of taking her life again, no matter what curve ball is thrown at her. Suicide is a permanent solution for a temporary problem.

I don't believe the rescue pictures. Take a look at the first one in the series of three. Is she hanging from her neck?

Poor Sweetie. For those of you who scoff, you can put away your self-righteous, finger-pointing attitudes. Maybe relationships aren't your weak/soft spot. But what about your career? Family? Money? Reputation? Health? Are you saying even the slightest thought of jumping would never cross your minds if any of these things were suddenly and cruelly taken from you? We're human and we're all weak, some more than others. Not so fast, hypocrites! No, this prick that she was engaged to isn't worth jumping over. No one is. But please- lend some compassion here.

The looser was the bride who ended up with the jerk. Before her life is over she will wish she was the one who was jolted. The groom is a coward. Is this how the Chinese deal with their women? No integrity and lack of honesty. Gee, must have learned that from the country's leaders.

None of us know "The rest of the story". my first reaction to these pictures was one of compassion for another very sad human being regardless of her race. I hope all of those who expressed derogatory statements have at least one really hard thing to face in life and perhaps develop some empathy for others !!

With all the chinese men in that country that are single, why doesn't she just go find someone else. Or better yet, start her own life and career. We raise our young girls with the idea that if you are not married, you are nothing. What a load of BS. There are way too many mouths to feed in the World as it is. We just can't keep overpopulating this Planet and not consider the consequences until we run into another food crisis. She should be grateful the jerk married someone else. He will probably not be faithful to his new wife either and she will life a very depressing and lonely life as he is out all the time bonking some other chick. She saved herself from a life of misery, trust me. Once a cheater, ALWAYS a cheater!!!!!

Watching those pictures is heartbreaking. My heart just goes out to her, because we all know what heartbreak feels like. Most of us don't end up trying to actually carry out the act, but, I believe very few of us escape feeling like we want to commit suicide at some point in our lives. Incredible heroics to save her! Hopefully, in time she will come to understand that everything happens for a reason, and that good things are in her future.

That she was wearing her wedding dress is what really got me with this. She looks so beautiful, but, you can see the heartbreak on her face. What a sweetheart...

The problem Sifu is this gal was not suicidal at all! This was just a play for attention on her behalf in an attempt to show her "boyfriend" how hurt she was at what he had done. For all we know - this gal could be the nut case and thinking she was suppose to marry this guy and he was not even aware of it. LOL

I have little patience or sympathy for people who call themselves committing suicide in public - because most of them have no such intention - they are just seeking attention wrapped in drama - just as this gal. Wearing a wedding dress............that is just absolutely silly.................dangling her legs out of the window for over an hour!!! Are you kidding me..........she NEVER had the mind set to commit suicide. Probably looking at a clock the entire time saying - "I wonder when they are going to come and rescue me?"

Those individuals who waste taxpayer dollars on their stupid public antics - should be held accountable and pay for all services provided - including any damage to property! If any one should have a law like this - it should be China! I would enjoy being the judge - she would have more to worry about than that stupid "suicide" performance she put on after I finished delivering hefty fines that would dent the pocket books of everyone on the westside of China!

Layoff of Sifu! He is exactly right!!! This woman is nothing but a big DRAMA QUEEN - and she was hoping to do nothing more than attempt to get a rise out of the guy she lost - I hope he did not see any of it and was out with his new wife at a party! They should charge her for wasting the taxpayer dollars and any damage to property - I see they broke a window. She has a lot of nerve! These pretend suicide people should be punished and pay back the city for any services provided!

If she really wanted to kill herself - she would not have been out in public so that everyone can see and watch and observe her distress and unhappiness! BALONEY!

Those that suck up city resources on their little antics should be held accountable!!! Nothing but a DRAMA QUEEN looking for attention!

Damn girl you got your own issues. It sounds and looks like you were deprived of attention as a child. What happened ma & pa ignored you and paid more attention to your younger and much prettier sister? If you are married "which I doubt" seems like he got a pretty bitter cup of tea.... Its obvious that since she is completely out the window and the only thing preventing her from falling is that initially the guy has his arm around her neck and then just pulling her up by the arms. You seem jealous whats the matter no one ever ask you to marry them? or were you just the local pin cushion? Either way you spin wild stories completely ignoring the facts and fabricating stories without any thing to support your claims except your twisted thoughts. You seem to be quite the drama queen yourself!

My whole point here is to put MSNBC on notice that if your going to show me news I dont want to see the same add over and over inbetween each video. Not trying to change the world, only MSNBC way of portraying it.
