The shadow of a worker using a stick to club a dog before slaughter is seen, at Bambanglipuro village in Bantul, near the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta May 29. The Suwardi family has been running a dog slaughter business since 1985, and up to 30 dogs are killed everyday for their meat, which consumers believe can cure skin diseases and boost vitality. The Suwardi family buys the dogs at about 150,000 rupiah ($17.50) each. A meal comprising of dog meat and plain rice costs about 8000 rupiah ($0.90).

This picture sent a cold shiver down my spine.

Indonesia is one of many countries I've visited that has a h-u-g-e problem with feral dog overpopulation . I'm just not sure this is the most humane solution. They eat anything they can catch in Indonesia , and jungle meat is on the menu.

OMG, I'm sick to my stomache. And all these "Christian" non-profit organizations continue to bring over more of these crazy sick pigs to America to "re-home" them. God pay the person who kills an animal or another human being.

Other than that, how do you feel about dogmeat futures?

Yeah let's kill every man, woman and child in a country because a minority engage in cruel behaviour towards animals. That's the Christian thing to do, isn't it? That's what Jesus would do I am sure! Let's kill everyone in the USA as well because there are drug dealers, thieves, pederasts and people who are cruel to animals in America. (Sarcasm.)

Pull out your dictionary dude and look up the word "bigotry".

Why the hell would you show such pictures! People will have nightmares for weeks! There is no need for sensationalism with regard to helpless animals... These people WILL BURN IN HELL for their sins against "man's best friend"....

being a westerner and a dog lover I find "dog slaughter" digusting as I can imagine these orientals would find cattle slaughter disgusting. It's all depends on location, location, location.

Really? Seen many Orientals walking their cows and playing fetch with their cows and naming the cows that sleep in their beds? Cows: an Asians best friend?

In regards to India at least, you have a good point. Cows are considered sacred to Hindus. This is a principle that is enshrined in the Indian constitution.

Note that most Indonesians are Muslims, except for the island of Bali where the majority are Hindus.

Enough!!! What is wrong with you people? In the US over 5 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters every year, because their idiot owners no longer want them.  They get them as babies, and when the animals require any sort of work or cost, they abandon them to be killed, then go and get another puppy or kitten.  These 5 million are the lucky ones.  Millions of others are left to starve, thrown out of moving cars, tortured in every horrific way imaginable, etc.  I personally have a landlord who traps cats every spring, and drops them in a tub of water; their babies are left to starve to death.  Once, for entertainment, he sprayed a cat in the face wit a high pressure hose until in drowned.  He is just 1 animal abuser out of millions in the US.

The animals that are put down in shelters are gassed, some are electrocuted, and some are drown; only a few actually are given shots to "put them to sleep;" the cost is too high.

Have any of the people posting how horrific this photo is ever seen what goes on in a slaughter house?  Worse than that, what goes on in the days and hours leading up to the slaughter?  If you enjoy a burger every once in a while, shut the h*ll up with the hypocritical outrage!

So how on earth is anyone in the US in a position to point a finger at these people? While I wish they had a more humane way to kill them than beating them to death, at least they are eating what they kill.

What about the US's feral cat, and stray dog population?  The hypocrisy on this message board is so ridiculous, I am embarrassed for people.

hey ligeiaw1, you leave those people alone!

if they don't want to know that the styrafoam and plastic-wrapped package of veal came from a cow that was separated from its mother at birth and lived out its 4 month life in a tiny crate (with no physical contact from other beings) before it was strung up and slaughtered, let them. this is america--it's a free country!

(and that's what they do to the babies)

what it boils down to is: people just don't want to know.
