A Buddhist devotee pays homage at the dagoba of a Buddhist temple on Poson Poya Day in the suburbs of Colombo, Sri Lanka on June 15, marking the 2600th year that Buddhism has been on the island. With King Devanampiyatissa embracing Buddhism during his reign (306 BC to 266 BC), the entire island later converted to the religion. Sri Lanka celebrates the anniversary of the Buddha's enlightenment with country-wide religious observances.
