A man tries to control a heavily loaded cart of corn plants, used as animal feed, after it lifted his donkey in Lahore, Pakistna, on July 11.

Overloaded donkey goes airborne under heavy load

At what point do you decide to not burden an animal like this and make two trips?

The last time I spotted a picture like this was in December, in the same city. How often are animals in Lahore treated like this?

This isn't a problem. They are simply using a 'high water' donkey.

Sadly, this is a common sight in some of the countries, including Pakistan, where international animal welfare charity - the Brooke, works. As well as providing veterinary treatment for working horses, donkeys and mules, the charity works closely with animal owners and communities, to demonstrate how lightening loads and improving the condition of carts, harnesses and saddles help working animals work more productively.

This is a common problem all over the middle east. They treat their hoofed animals as slaves. There is a great organization in Morocco called American Fondouk(Arabic Inn) in Arabic. They care for all animals that come through the door. They have helped here since 1927 and the website is www.fondouk.org.
