Too bad that people need to realize that there is about 1000 Marines leaving around Sept from San Diego to Afghan. Yeah they are down sizing. You people need to realize that there is still Military Units that need to be replaced they there is still coming in to that. Put money on it they already did a turn over with another military unit..... But hey what do I know, I only deployed 3 times.

I, personally, am very proud of our soldiers, and I am very glad that some of them get to come home. Thank you all for your service. Eliz M. You are very inconsiderate. International deployment of our military men and women apparently as no impact on you. Just remember that they are the people that defend your right to say such an ignorant comment. SanDiego10 .... thank you so much for serving your country!

You were deployed there three times and made it back alive, you're one of the lucky ones, Howerver, did you ever give just one moment of thought, To how all the machines, tanks, and other equipment to help our troops fight the Middle East War arrived over there? How about England, France, Italy, Germany Poland, Guam and other Pacific Islands of World War Two? Who helped get the TROOPS over there? Transiant the Alantic, Gulf of Mexcio was called a ONE WAY TICKET if you made it over there you had to make it back across the Alantic without being Torpedo, The most famous of these sinkings was the Murmansk Run!More United States Merchant Seamen lives were lost during WORLD WAR TWO than any branch's of the armed forces! Yet today we lay silent, we lay deep, No ticket tape parade! Do your self and your buddies a great service, "Read up, on the role that the UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE and of MERCHANT MARINEs of other countries played in all of WORLD WARS! Remember this one thing Sgt, War is a Two Sided issue, Yours and Theirs! One final though, yes, many of the World War Seamens did return to sea in the first Gulf War to supply our Troops over in Iraq!

SanDiego10 you have to overlook small minded people who their first priority is who is being voted off American Idol. I want to thank you for your service and I understand what you mean because my son was just deployed with the Marines. Yes troops are coming home but yes more are being deployed to Afghanistan.

As a Mother of a former soldier who fought in Iraq, San Diego is correct in his statements. Even as the troops were withdrawing from The Iraq Conflict, others were being deployed to take their places. Even now my Nephew who is a Marine, is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in 2012. To all those who protect my freedoms, and the freedoms of others... HOOAH!

Eliz why do you feel the need to be rude towards this brave man. His statements on this site have no bearing on whether or not he deploys. He makes an excellent point. When the media raved about how the last combat troops have left Iraq, there were still troops in Iraq that were risking their lives in Iraq and common man had no clue due to inaccurate media accounts. Sad that you would feel the need to be so rude Eliz.

Just FYI... I am a female Sgt in the Marines! But all the same... they group us together as guys all the time! Additionally I meant no harm fowel if I did offend anyone. I just hate how people are being mislead by the media when they say troops are coming home permently, my boyfriend is deploying here shortly for 7 months. This draw down will come with drawing down infantry battalions BUT the logistics and security forces will be there for the long haul. I just do not agree with how the media protrays President Obama's message. Because like so many of you with family members still deploying you haven't felt the draw down. As have as a military.

SanDiego10 you have more right then most to post your opinion because of the job you do on a daily basis.

It is easy to spout beliefs when you are sitting behind a computer in your comfortable air conditioning with all the comforts of home working Monday through Friday with weekends off plus holidays home with loved ones. Most people love to get on the pulpit when they have never known sacrifice a day in their life.I appreciate the sacrifices you and others make so we can have the life we as Americans do.

What you have said is the truth. It is not right to portray that troops are coming home when we still have troops deploying. It is all about making things look good for the upcoming elections.
