Portraits put a face on Norway massacre

With each individual picture - allow your eyes and mind to fully embrace the young life meeting your gaze.

Along with their youthful face, in their eyes, you will see the faint glimmerings of their dreams, their mothers, their fathers, sisters, brothers, friends, staring back at you as well.

While we now know the sum of each of these earthly lives - look hard into the eyes of each one - there is an unending trail of tears, pain, heart break and heart ache behind each and every photo.

My heart is heavy with sadness for these beloved children and their families. What if? What if?

What really bothers me about this is, europeans are now looking at immigration and multiculturism as the root cause to this massacre, as if the crime was committed by an immigrant or that the victims were mostlyimmigrants.

My aunt & uncle live in Norway & we were there visiting when this tragedy unfolded. I watched the news reports & listened as the prime minister, Jens Stoltenberg, addressed the nation. He talked about the country joining together to demonstrate love & caring for each other in response to the hate that this man had exhibited. He stressed that the open, welcoming nature of the country needs to remain intact. My aunt talked about how Norwegians encourage immigrants to integrate into their country, while still maintaining their cultural identity.

This man believed that immigration and multiculturalism were ruining Norway and targeted mainly these youth who were involved in the political future of the country as his targets. Most people in Europe are very troubled by his views, not in agreement that immigration is creating problems for their countries.

Other than Glenn Beck, who must have taken the murderer a bouquet of flowers and is currently singing him lullabys in his prison cell, it's amusing how right-wing conservatives are now trying to "distance" themselves from this.

Sarah Palin literally placed a rifle target on Gabrielle Giffords' face and frequently says things like, "lock and load!" which is highly provocative. (in addition to a litany of other right-wing rants by she and others) --Lunatics showing up at public rallies toting guns is just another example.

There's a fine line between provocation and action. --And you know that many (or most) of these sick, selfish people -- deep inside -- are indifferent, if not filled with glee over what happened. (just as Glenn Beck is.)

Sadly, many of these people even consider themselves Christians... (that's a shame.)

Don't get angry with this post -- many agree. --Just look yourselves in the mirror. --Ask yourselves, "WWJD -- What Would Jesus Do?" (as you like to say) I don't think Jesus would kill children nor even advocate it. He would ask you to repent and purge the hatred and anger from your hearts and minds.
        That's What Would Jesus Do.

        When you are sorrowful
        look into your heart
        and you shall see that
        you are weeping
        for that which has been
        your delight
        ~ Kahlil Gibran

        Give sorrow words;
the grief that does not speak
        Whispers the o'er-fraught heart
        and bids it break.

I looked into the eyes of each of the children pictured above. My hair is standing on end, and my eyes are teary. My heart aches for the families and friends of these innocent children. No one should have to bury their children.

Out of all those pics, I found one so full of love. I just wanted to grab her and tell her she is loved:

Dupe Ellen Awoyemi (15) from Drammen

May she rest in peace and may the killer rot in hell.

You are a moron. Not everyone who was killed was a kid, just the vast majority (that means most). If you took a moment to read their names you might (maybe) have realized that their ages were listed also. Only 4 of the 20 were over 18. Not to mention that their ages are beside the point.

Look at their pictures and say their names.  These were someone's children, brothers, sisters, friends.  I've taught high school for 37 years -- It never gets easier to lose any one of them.

Wow, what a sad day for humanity....these were kids, somebody's child, somebody's children, someone's sister, someone's brother, somebody's grand daughter, somebody's grand son...what a shame...crimes against children is worse than crimes against humanity! How do you begin to kill a child ?.....beyond comprehension, this is beyond "God"

Children learn what they live...what did the murderer live to learn to hate so much? I cannot fathom a person who could hate so much but it seems that there are many others in the world just like him. They come in all shapes and sizes, all belief systems, from all nations. It's enough to become paralyzed and paranoid but if we do, then they win. In the memory of these young victims, we cannot let hate win.

Frog, I really doubt that you know much, if anyting about Christianity. His actions have noting to do with what it means to follow Christ. And by the way, neither did the Crusades. Please do not label those of us who are conservative, fundamental, Christ followers as such. Liberals who know nothing about Christianity and then making the comment such as you have just made contribute to hate mongering and misrepresentation of truth. When Peter took up his sword and cut off the ear of one of the roman guards that came to arrest Christ so that he could be "leglly murdered", Chrst told Peter to put his sword away. Chrst then touched the guard's ear and healed him and told Peter that those who live by the sword shall die by the sword. Does that sound like the teachings of a "terrorist" leader? I think not. The man who murdered all those youth in Norway is not a Christ follower.

Don't you think there are equally devout and passionate muslims who feel the same way about those depraved zealots bastardize the true tenets of their religion? No religion is inherently evil, and all true religions respect and embrace the sanctity of other religions. But plenty of people from all faiths use that religion to serve their own thirst for power and control, or to provoke hatred and arouse fear.

So religion is to blame for all your problems?? Stalin was a great man wasn't he. What I don't understand about religion haters is that they think that it is just religion that make men evil. Religion causes peace and war, love and hatred, kindness and neglect. But so does the average man.

Out of curiosity, do you repudiate the parts of the Bible that seemingly promote the destruction of entire groups of people (the story of the shibboleth comes to mind)? I think religion's the red herring here, but to act like Christianity (or any other religion) is all hearts and snuggles is ridiculous. And to assume that true Christianity is only the province of conservative fundamentalists is the height of arrogance.

What political statement could there ever have been made by killing these beautiful children? This is such a tremendous tragedy, just heartbreaking. There was no reason to kill these innocent people, it could not help a 'cause' or be justified in any way. This is the work of a cold-blooded killer and should never be thought of as a political or religious statement. My thoughts and prayers are with Norway and the people who are mourning there.

No, this was not a Christian.  The Devil only has to plant a seed, and the week and troubled among take it from there... he really doesn't have to do all that much. God Bless the families and friends for those that were slain.  What a terrible waste.

You right wingers kill me (no pun intended)... This white, right-wing, christian carries out a pre-meditated massacre of innocent, left-leaning, multi-culture embracing teenagers, and you're all on here "Oh, this had nothing to do with his christian religion or his extreme right-wing political views, he was just a crazed madman"

If he had been a muslim, you very same people would be on here saying that we all need to wake up and realize that all muslims are murderous terrorists that need to be either wiped out or confined to the middle east. In fact, if you read any of the early comments on here before they identified the POS, you would know that that's exactly what 90% of them said.

YOU"RE the ones who need to wake up and realize that this is becoming a serious problem. There are people who lean to the right, who are NOT extremists. YOU need to stand up and denounce these nut-jobs before they become the christian version of al-quada.

Damn. Tearing up looking at those kids. I live in Denver, Colorado and when the kids' portraits after the Columbine killings here were eventually posted on the local news, I finally just had to cry...I didn't know any of them, but the pent up emotion just had to come out like here. Look at the innocence lost then and now here. Such a shame. :(
