Kid may be having fun, but do you think the animal is enjoying this? Too bad people actually teach kids to be so insensitive as to put their fun ahead of causing an animal obvious anxiety and stress. think about it, isn't this bullying too? There's plenty of ways to have fun without causing ANY harm.

A beaten pig is a tender pig...and as for the kids, I hope they've got strong immune systems

If we say "it's only a pig" what's wrong with doing it to a dog? Pigs are smarter than dogs. Doing it to a dog would cause a riot - having dominion over animals need not mean that we cause them harm, injury, or stress. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you . . . .

Hey, we don't eat dogs. This little porker is destined for the dinner table anyway.....Bacon..MMMMMMM

Pigs are WAY smarter than dogs. That's why pigs are slowly pushing drug, bomb-sniffing, and attack dogs out of work. I have also seen a real uptick in seeing-eye pigs at the supermarket and guard pigs at junkyards as well. Where do you people come up with these comments that have no backing whatsoever? At least they are fun to respond to.

Poor helpless pig, this is animal abuse, the pigs taken from their mothers incur broken bones, dozens of fractures, microcephalic mentality parents who allow their children to perpetrate such torture onto an animal, 6 months in jail misdemeanor onto the parents.......put pig out of its misery to end its suffering so its lips, ears, eyeballs, tongue, intestines, snout, sex organs, parts that would otherwise be discarded can be turned into wieners/sausage for pizza, the nitrates/nitrites added are 2 of the most potent carcinogenic substances on Earth.......

I was going to make the same type of comment, but SeaStar33 and cdviking1, you said it for me.  The pig did not choose this.  Does the pig look happy in this picture?  I wonder how that pig felt through all this.  Just because you are smarter and stronger than others doesn't mean you bully them.  Having "dominion" over the animals means it's our responsibility to PROTECT them, not bully them or slaughter them.  People are doing all kinds of things to find peace... but you will find incredible peace when you know you are not a part of this, and treat animals with kindness, gentleness, and respect.  And for goodness sake, please don't eat them too.

Totally agree. Animal abuse under the "children are playing" excuse by ignorant inbread folk. Is anybody monitoring this? Anybody going to jail about this? Who gives them the right to abuse helpless animals? What the hell is wrong with people? And what the hell is wrong with media to post this in the news as something of an entertainment? Idiots.

You misspelled "inbred" (inbread). And used completely improper sentence structure. Too bad us poor country folk are too busy producing "inbread" babies and enough food to feed the world so we aint able to be learnt how to spell currectly and to love animals. What the hell is wrong with us? What is wrong with you?

          farmerjoe,

Those of us who eat pork do not choose to torture the animals for entertainment. True, they are slaughtered for food, and you can make the argument that killing animals for food is wrong, but to equate that to frightening the hell out of simple minded creatures for a few yucks from the crowd is ignorant to say the least. Hope you don't torture any of the animals you may raise.

            4real,

Get real. Guess the pigs enjoy torture. And I guess they'd bite because, umm, maybe they don't care for this s''t. Pigs are not objects to be used for our entertainment. Sad you think that way.

It's a pity some of you aren't more concerned with child abuse and hunger. I'm not saying dogfights, cock fights and some other "events" are right but where do you draw the line in dog or horse racing?

                Reply#12 - Sat Jul 30, 2011 10:11 AM EDT

I'm very concerned with child and spousal abuse and worked 23 years in a woman's crisis center, but that doesn't mean I'm not also concerned with animal abuse. I don't think we should abuse any animal, ever!

I have two pet pigs and can't imagine doing this type of cruelty to them.  First, pigs are extremely sensitive to any kind of abuse and have very tender feelings; second, they are very clean and I'm sure not enjoying the mud; third, what the hell is wrong with these parents.  I hope they are reported and have their children taken away.

                    Reply#13 - Sat Jul 30, 2011 10:26 AM EDT

Really? The pigs weren't enjoying the mud? Obviously you weren't there to see them absolutely rolling in it, digging through it, and ENJOYING it. And obviously, you haven't been around real pigs much. Your pet pigs might not like mud like a purse poodle doesn't like chasing cows. "I hope they are reported and their children taken away." That is one of the most laughable comments I have ever seen. Grow up.

I don't understand how this can be construed as "torture." I thought torture meant . . . . torture. I guess I didn't see the part of the competition where the pig was hoisted up by its snout and its genitals shocked repeatedly, then bludgeoned, then (OH MY GOODNESS!!!!) WATERBOARDED!!!! And how did this conversation turn from hundreds of people having a good time with no harm to the pigs into one about bullying and a vegan lifestyle? You people are so tunnel visioned that you don't see reality around you. Torture and bullying? How about families and communities coming together for an event which provided everyone with laughs and wonderful memories ("EXCEPT THE PIG . . . YOU MEAT-EATING, KNUCKLE-DRAGGING, BLOOD-THIRSTY IDIOT!!!")? Just so everyone knows where I'm coming from, I was on the championship team of the Hog-N-Mud Wrestling. I had a great time and can't wait to be back next year to defend our championship. Now, let the comments about selfish, idiotic, pig-torture-loving entertainment begin. The only ones who care are your other small minded friends. I don't care, because I won and had a great time with my friends and family. And the pigs don't care, because they went home, had some good feed, and are pooping it out as we speak . . . and loving it. Peace. I gotta go torture my horse by putting a saddle on her and a bit in her mouth.

Oh give me a break here huh? What a bunch of sissies. That pig was NOT hurt in any way, shape, or form. I remember the greased pig contests when I was young. All the Rodeos had them. You all make it sound like someone is beating the crap out of that pig with a sledge hammer. Boo Hooooooooo, poor little piggy. Fill your squirt guns full of pig blood and squirt it on all the Muslims. Maybe someday you'll all grow up and become adults. Next thing you know, you'll all be boycotting the 3 little pigs book. That's where the big bad wolf is after them. Meanwhile.....Grow Up!!!
