Ramadan will begin within the next couple of days, depending on the sighting of the moon. Some Muslims base the beginning of Ramadan on the moon sighting in Saudi Arabia. Sadiki said those attending the mosque will base it on when the moon is sighted in the United States. ''If they spot the moon Sunday, then we'll start Ramadan Monday morning,'' he said. ''If they spot it Saturday, then we'll start it Sunday morning.'' Ramadan is a holy month in which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. The time is meant to strengthen Muslim's spirituality and relationship with God.
My goodness, going without anything to drink during hot summer days must be difficult. Apparently Palestinians are tweaking their clocks to help make it through the long, hot daylight hours.

What about all the Catholics who blew up the British back in the 60's and 70's. They too fast during the Easter Lenten season on certains and forgo eating meat all day on Fridays. Are they too nonsense? Do they too worship Satan? What about the Jewish people? They have tons of religious rituals and cannot eat any non kosher foods. Are they too nonsense and Satan worshipers? How close-minded you must be. No wonder there is so much hate in the world! It only takes a small amount of any group of people to ruin it for all. I've seen news about Christian holidays and Jewish holiday traditions here. Like it or not, People who practice Islam are here to stay and it's time the public be exposed to information about it to dispel stereotypes.

I work for the court system. The ones with the longest and most violent criminal records are prison converts to Islam. They'll rape you and kill you (and possibly in the reverse order), they'll smoke crackand shoot smack, they won't get a job, but... like all good Muslims, they wear that funny little skullcap and avoid eating pork.

they were in Spain for 700 years before being driven out.....mus lims are not compatible with western culture or even most eastern cultures (like India) because they are intolerant and that causes intolerance in host coutries......they will form a new separate country here in North America before they will ever assimilate, it requires only that their demographic reaches a certain tipping point

That this is news in this country is part of the obsession the press has with Islam, Afghanistan, Iraq. For more then ten years we are hammered with Islamic rituals to make this a part of our discussion. Fact is: Muslims will never blend into this country, they come here with the intent to uphold their own tradition and throw it in the face of everbody. Same as the indians: women dress not American, they dress Indian. However they are not the fabric of this nation: the Europeans that came here, accustomed to the lifestyle and became Americans. They showed a willingness to make it in this country. Muslims will not, they will always a foreign body in the eye of this nation.
To be fair - most Muslims in America have assimilated - but definitely in Europe they don't.

It saddens me to see such hate and ignorence. Clearly, with a limited schema, you have not experienced much outside of your own human experience. Growing up on milatary bases where the sacred place ofworship included all faiths (meaning one building divided into smaller spaces so that each religion could have their own space) gave me the opportunity to learn that despite our differences in faith that our fundamental truths were the same even though we choose to express our faith in different ways. If you choose not to have faith that needs to be respected as well. Isn't this the very essence of the creation of this nation? Isn't this the reason for separation of church and state? I live in a very diverse area in California where there is a large East Indian, Hispanic, Asian, (smaller) Muslim population and what I have learned despite their different outwardly appearance they hold the same hopes and dreams that make up the American Dream. The difference between the people who are new to this country and those who are born here are those who are new live the American dream by bettering their lives with opportunities promised by our Constitution... sadly, I can not say this about those who take our who take our nation for granted. Besides, when European settlers came to this continent they did not assimilate with the Native Americans so how are we different from them again?

I'm pretty sure a guy claiming to be a Christian was responsible for Oklahoma City. I'm pretty sure a guy claiming Christianity killed a bunch of kids in Norway just last week. The people who do these things or who are involved in active war like participation aren't really Christians, Muslims, jews, or anything but terrorists and NONE of them follow the tenets of the faith they claim. Why not stop throwing the baby out with the bathwater?
