Except the dye packs used in banks are not laced with deadly chemicals! LOL

lynseypug - good eye, good observation. Up to this point the only time in History that I'm aware of where rich people rioted is in Chavez' Venezuela.

If you look at the captions you'll see that they were gathered to mourn those killed in protests earlier this year. So one could surmise they were dressed respectfully, as for a memorial service.

Why purple "water" - so they can find them later and kill them? We will know something is up when we read next about a bunch of dead purple people killed in the middle of the night. It may even be laced with some deadly chemical - it would not surprise me one bit.

Of course it is to mark them. It's not like the riot police are all that festive.

Remember Uganda? Do a little searching.

These people will end up in jail or worse if they can't get the ink off before being spotted.

I wonder when that will start happening in the U.S.? I hope this doesn't give them any good ideas.

Okay, I don't understand. Why is the water colored? Does the color not come off? Do the police get to go door to door to see who is covered in the dye? Or does it alow them to track the protesters as they disperse?

Could be a form of psychological warfare the Ugandan government is waging against the protestors.

          #3.1 - Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:01 PM EDT

It's so that the armed gangs can find and beat the protesters later. This is a pretty common tactic in that part of the world. It's purple because it's a color they associate with homosexuality, which the population doesn't think is inborn and immutable, and downright HATES. The protesters, thus, are essentially green-lit as gays and gay supporters (even if they are neither) for any angry thug who wants to hurt or kill someone. Long story short, this tactic is to allow for violence without accountability.

At first, I was wondering "why colored water?"- then I realized this could have a more sinister reason: The protesters are all dyed pink, as well as their clothes. This will enable the corrupt Ugandan police to track them down and arrest them or worse.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense for it to be colored, unless they're using it to MARK the protestors as well. That camo'd officer in the last picture is pretty happy about it all too!

I do like the potential though. If the police had used something like this in the UK riots, it would have made IDing them easier later. Maybe riot guns should fire paint pellets instead of rubber bullets.

If they did this in the US, of course, it would be called racist and likened to Jim Crow. BTW: Ever noticed how all these flash mobs that are becoming an epidemic in the US are ALL BLACK PEOPLE? Just like almost all the rioters in London were black? Oh yeah, we aren't supposed to ignore the obvious.

You guys are reading too much to this. They colored the water in an attempt to "Punish" them because in Uganda, you don't have washing machines and dryers in their houses and apartments. Most actually go down a river to wash it by hand and hang it for the Sun to dry it. Incoveniencing and time consuming. In most cases the clothes are ruined because they can't afford bleaching agents. Very incoveniencing when you barely have one or two pairs of clothes. If they use normal water, there wouldn't be any consequence to it. At the end of the day, they rather get dispersed using colored water as opposed to rubber or live bullets.
