Nuns are escorted by a young woman past demonstrators shouting slogans against the visit of Pope Benedict XVI at Madrid's central Sol square Wednesday Aug. 17. The Pope is due to arrive Thursday for a four-day visit to celebrate World Youth Day, and thousands of protesters railing against his visit marched through Madrid to Plaza del Sol where they have held months of demonstrations against the government's anti-austerity policies.

Not quite as nice a scene as earlier today, as shown in our PhotoBlog post.

Ah the humanity. We are having much debate about humanity without religion right now and the image of the guy screaming behind the nun is kinda crazy. What would happen if the church hadn't come about? Where would we be? But have we outgrown the current church and its old ways? Can we move on from it in a civil and respectful way.
The Pope Wears Gold A painting done, representing the machine of the church, not the kind individual who exists in the church. Both sides should be shown always.
James
The square is called Puerta del Sol, not Plaza del Sol.
I am heart-warmed that Papal visits continue to spread peace and contentment in the world.
SHAME ON SPAIN...
The whole trip was paid by the Pilgrims... all you need to do is research unless you want to smear the Church... all these riots and protest was done by the GBLT crowd and those going to jail were all GBLTs... they are the ones full of hatred while the pilgrims limit themselves to pray for them. But you won't hear that from any news channel they are all anti-Catholics.
