Wall Street tumbles at open; Dow drops 500 points in early trading

NEW YORKMore signs of economic weakness around the globe sent Wall Street sharply lower Thursday, following sharp declines in Asian and European markets.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell as much as 529 points in morning trading, but was lately off that low and trading below the psychologically-important 11,000 level. Continue reading.
