Amphibious car owners gather for a "family picture" on Lake Neuchatel on August 18.

AFP reports:

The owners of more than 50 amphibious vehicles brought their World War II-era military transporters, jeeps and vintage-style cars to Lake Neuchatel in Switzerland on Thursday for their annual European gathering. Fitted with colorful umbrellas and decorated with flags, what looked like a motley crew of vehicles carrying families including babies and dogs drove off the port and glided smoothly into the water.

Most of those are Amphicars. They were imported into the US briefly in the 1960s. I saw one in Colorado (on the road) not too long ago. Not a very good car or boat, but at least it WORKED.

    Michael,

As far as classic / collectable cars go, Amphicars are surprisingly affordable! There are a couple on eBay for $38000 & $45000 respectively.

    Go for it!

Haggard Old Man, I watch every eBay Amphicar auction, believe you me. I cannot afford $38-45000.

Perhaps, they have too much time and $$ in their hands without much to do.

Don't laugh, but honestly, these vehicles look like what the Cubans have used in the past to make it to U.S. land.
