Biden 'takes on' wrestler, practices archery in Mongolia

Vice President Joe Biden tries his hand at archery as Mongolian Prime Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold, second from right, laughs during Mini-Naadam staged in Biden's honor in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, on Monday, Aug. 22. Biden hailed the United States' growing ties with Mongolia on a rare visit to the Asian nation, which is opening up its vast coal reserves to foreign investors.

Oh, Vice President Biden. How you continue to provide endless amusement.

It could quite possibly be described as an imitation of the prowess and machismo exercised by Russian PM Vladimir Putin.

Biden could stand to shore up his stance a bit, when he's not busy catching up on sleep during Obama's deficit speech or smarting off at a Wisconsin custard shop.

Biden left last Tuesday for a tour taking him to China, Mongolia and Japan. The multifaceted trip has so far seen stops in Beijing and Mongolia with upcoming stops in Tokyo, as the country recovers from the earthquake and tsunami.

TWIG looks the court jester as he feigns intimidation. No one fears him in Mongolia it is only Amercans who fear as we ask, "Who let him out of the country?" Many more are asking," Are we sure they sent credible help to bring him through this tour without offending anyone and adding to the long list of persons now holding him in contempt." joseph

Is that all the right wing believes diplomacy is about...fear? So the rest of the world should fear us, right? No wonder you have a problem with Obama. It would seem he believes more in international cooperation than simply invading other sovereign nation.

Nice to have a VP who cares about his country and not a Cheney who has two DUI's which speaks to his judgement and 5 draft deferements which speak to his courage.  The only reason Cheney is still alive is because he is receiving outstanding government paid health care - something idiot Republicans dont even know about.

Or rather, Cheney manipulated people behind the scenes--he was so good at it that Bush never realized who was really in charge.

Yes,Biden sometimes puts his foot in his mouth. A lot of us do. The thing is though, unlike GOP candidates like Palin and Bachman,Biden knows what hes talking about, but sometimes just cant articulate it as well as he might like. Palin and Bachman on the other hand have no clue with they are talking about, and articulate that very well.

Heres a quote from wikipedia about Biden.

"Biden received considerable attention in the summer of 1986 when he excoriated Secretary of State George P. Shultz at a Senate hearing because of the Reagan administration's support of South Africa, which continued to practice the apartheid system"

In my mind, that counts for a lot.

Oh, Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan [author of this political tripe]!!

Clearly, your political bias is showing.

As we all know, Putin was not making folly of himself, as you will note that there was no one in sight who were laughing at his macho antics, as viewed in past articles, and photos. On the other hand, Joe Biden is well aware of the power of humor....especially so, when it can cross ethnic, and language barriers. In fact, "self deprecating humor" is one of the most powerful traits of showing one's character. In your case, your article simply shows your lack of character, where your political "blinders" are in place. He's more than well aware of his surroundings.... his lack competency in wrestling, and archery, and yet..... he was quite successful in getting his point across..... that he's simply just like "you, and I" within the confines of the group he was with. [No, I wasn't talking about "you", in my past comment, Jonathan] .

From a literary standpoint, next time....attempt to be more "balanced", or are you a stockholder in "Fox News"? Should you be overwhelmed by the desire to have "the last word".... Go for it! Knock yourself out!! If not you, than one of your trolls will most likely chime in. I relish the "read"!! LOL!!!

Doug - thank you for your feedback. I agree with your sentiments that VP Biden understands self-deprecating humor quite well, and is very aware of his surroundings. However, he has a longstanding history of behavior that has drawn a combination of laughs and criticism from all sides.

After Biden's "big f-----g deal" remark following President Obama signing the historic and controversial health care bill into law Biden himself told "The View" that one of the big lessons he's learned politics is to question a persons judgment, but not their motive.

I submit to you that lesson, and push it a bit further, that our readers question judgment, but not motive- OR character. And last, I'll point you to our recommended guidelines for participating in discussions:

Consider, then address specific arguments and ideas put forth by others, intelligently, rather than taking the easy route and attacking them personally.

            Mr. Woods--

You deflect ad hominem attacks from yourself, but feel entitled to engage in them yourself in criticisizing the Vice-president, who not only has not made any gaffes on this trip, but has scored a resounding diplomatic success with his 'noodle diplomacy'.

Viewed objectively, Joe Biden has been an asset to President Obama and his administration. Your attempt to make him appear a buffoon suggests you are, wittingly or not, an echo chamber for others' viewpoints. You had a real opportunity on this story, fluffy as you think it is, to make an original point of some kind. I wish you had.

I imagine Biden's brand of "everyman" accessibility and charm make a very big, and probably lasting positive impression on the people of China and Mongolia, if not on their leaders. Who would have imagined a few years ago that the lovable buffoon, Mr Biden, would look like the smartest guy in the administration three years in?

Biden IS everyman. His net worth is less than $350,000. I have more money than he does and I'm a nobody.

Summed up very well, Jonathan.  Is it possible in this day and age to make an argument without insulting a person's character?  The discourse in this country makes me sick right now.
