For almost ten years the bulk of the construction work at Ground Zero has been on the vast infrastructure below ground. Now, seeing the memorial site illuminated by the rising towers, I'm relieved to see that this hallowed space is surrounded by a vibrant city.
To navigate the panorama above use the tools in the lower left corner. The panorama consists of about 35 separate images stitched together with software to represent a 180 degree view of the site.

i am proud to say my husband works on tower 1 as an ironworker...and to see this rising through his perspective is unbelievably humbling! thank you for this..its incredible!
You put a @!$%#ing ad on the 9/11 photos? It's still just about the money.
It has ALWAYS been about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If you can't say anything nice then don't post. Stop disrespecting the men, women, children, who died, and also stop disrespecting the hard working people who built these amazing buidlings, and all the beautiful structures surround it!
Gee, Nick, you must be BROKE!
Laura... don't fret.
The pathetically two-dimensional mentalities in the chatter chirping from the likes of Whitteberry and Nick become inevitable when they are confronted with something beyond their character's depth, honor, and their remotest ability to define the world around them.
I would feel sorry for them if I didn't know we are a free country and we can chose to be what we are. Therefore, a brush of contempt, and then forgetting them rather quickly is easy.
Life does seem to get around to retribution for those who make such self-destructive choices.
AMAZING
I agree with you Tim Whitteberry, it sucks to have Ad’s like that. Dadams1966, thank your husband for all of us. To be a part of creating an American Symbol like this, as a gift to the American People forever has to make your family proud. It would be nice if they put the names of those who built this somewhere around the monument.
An advertisement with someone's face burning ruins the beauty of what this could have been.
"PULL IT"... Larry Silverstein 9/11 was an inside job..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nick. really? C'mon man, put it to rest at least until Monday.
Well said Doug!
Let's ignore Nick. He's broke, angry, and small.
I just watched the video. It's about teamwork, an unbreakable spirit that we all share, courage, and faith.
I am deeply moved by this.
The NYC skyline and lives changed forever.
In 1986, I purchased a "Cut & Assemble New York Harbor, Full-Color Diorama. I had never gotten around to cutting and pasting this amazingly large book together. Then, we were attacked. Now, I have no desire to assemble it.
I am wondering if there is a family in America who would like this? It shows the old buildings, and to me very sad, and a reflection of tragedy.
Perhaps there is a family who would, in their way appreciate this, especially when the new one is made. It is for the asking.
The Memorial Foundation may want it if it's still in a box etc. Could be valuable if so.
I would love to have that. But maybe the Memorial Foundation would be a more appropraite choice. That way more people could enjoy it.
Do not give this away, I think you would ultimately regret it. I was at Ground Zero in May of this year and the new Freedom Tower was finishing at the 62nd floor. It is going to be a beautiful building, as are the memorial pools. My son worked as a mechanic's helper in the Trade Centers when it was first bombed. He would love to have this because he had good memories of working there....if you give it away, check on the Fire Station No. 10 who lost almost all of its firemen. The side of the building has a beautiful brass relief and they too have a memorial. There are so many places that would love to have it.
I woild very much like to have this mamento. I am in my sixties and have witnessed so many tragedies in our country and would be proud to have this piece if history. Thank you
Mr. Cool, build the thing with pride. It will be a way to triumph over any adversity. Your action of building it says something to those who destroy things. If you don't build it, that means part of your spirit was defeated. Why let bad triumph over good when you have a choice?
Hope there are safe and sound days after 9/11/2001.
Three more days to go and I am already sick of the constant media coverage of this 9/11 celebration.
u say that ur a proud american veteran but ur sick of the media coverage...how does that work?
you need to grow up bud and change your name, a proud american????? where's your compassion. GOD bless our hero's and their family's. i have a son & grandson working on them beautiful buildings, and very proud of "all" the workers down.
To proudamericanveteran, ... If you are a veteran, and cannot appreciate how people honor you ... all over our nation and our allies throughout the world... and yet do not want to be reminded of your own action, had you thought just to stop looking at it? Ignoring us who do honor you?
You have posted your objections to other, similar stories in MSNBC... and I have been curious about you.
Why are you here? Why do you, personally, agonize over the reminders? Why on earth would you deny others who value what our soldiers... marines, sailors, air force... all of you.... mean to us????? Why do you want to deny us the unifying of one another as Americans? Or, even as part of a, perhaps idealistic world, that tries... really tries... to be the best we can be.
I am here to stay in touch with what we have confronted... and may have to confront again... and am moved by others there when it happened, and I am really proud to be an American.
This is another example of true American Spirit...Unconquerable...And another example of the fine UNION Construction Workers of the Greater New York Area!!! I APLAUD THEM AND GIVE THEM MY SINCEREST THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!!!
Why did UNION have to come into this?
Because that's who is working on it - just like it was the unionized firemen and police who raced into the building to save people on 9/11/01.
Tim and Anita - Stop saying "Union" this and "Union" that. It comes down to the PEOPLE who rushed into those towers 10 years ago and the PEOPLE who are working on them now. To make it as though UNIONS are examples of the American spirit belittles the true heroism and enginuity of INDIVIDUALS who sacrificed the ultimate price on 9/11. Firemen and policemen are unionized - but c'mon - they are HEROES first - the fact that they're unionized had NOTHING to do with their heroism.
Thank you Michael 386820. My feelings exactly.
Michael - I absolutely agree. They are no less heros because they do these heroic jobs and perform these heroic tasks while earning a decent paycheck instead of slave wages. What I don't understand is why Mike appears to offended that Tim takes pride in the union affiliation of these workers.
Too bad the most prominent feature on these buildings, the glass, is coming from China. Maybe the deal was they would throw in the MLK monument for a discount for buying all of that glass.
A not too minor cost I saw when looking at the memorial were the lights burning. Other costs of 9/11 are the wars. The wars have cost many lives and much money. Stop the wars, save lives and money which would be a fine way to honor 9/11, after 10 years.
LETS NOT LOSE SIGHT OF SOMETHING... TOO MANY INNOCENT MEN AND WOMEN ARE NOT WITH US TODAY BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT.
I AM A PROUD UNION IRONWORKER, almost 30 years experience; to this day, I cant sit and watch those two towers come down; killing thousands of innocent people. I know thousands of people (IRONWORKERS INCLUDED) were part of the first responders. And to see them get pushed out of the way because of there is NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO SAVE ROOM FOR THE POLITICIANS AND THEIR SECURITY....BULL.....THATS SOME OF THE SADDEST NEWS IN 10 YEARS. TO HELL WITH ALL THE POLITICIANS, SET EM UP IN A CONVENTION CENTER AND LET THEM WATCH AS THE REAL HEROS ATTEND THE MEMORIAL.
Tim Smith, I agree. Let those who were there to respond, the families of those lost, and those who are still with us but suffered injury be the ones with the front row seats and places of honor. Other than the NYC politicians, none of the others should be given special treatment.
Seriously, can we just put aside the BS about blame and theories and honor the people who lost their lives that day. The First Amendment gives you the right to say what you feel, but ethics and respect obviously don't come into play for you people. There is a time and place for your opinion, but it isn't right now.
Very well say!!!!
Amen Brother !!!!! Very well said!!
Right on... maybe I should try for a nic like yours. Weeel, I don't "hate" so much as feel sorry for them. Really... I pity people deprived somehow of just good manners. There's so much of Life's rewards they are missing.
It came out of the 1960s, I think, the words that emphasized that to put dishonor, nastiness, disrespect into our lives, it will always come back to haunt us. And yet the opposite is equally true. Decency invites decent treatment in return.
These words are so very right on point (the idea goes back before Aristotle but never so concisely...
What goes around, comes around.
'Silence' would be more appropriate--instead of all the stupid comments!!!
I agreed with you!!
Beautiful tribute!
...30 second ads...MSNBC...shame
Beautiful work. Drop the AD.
WOW, that was awesome!! (need to drop the ad, though!!)
I've been watching the RISING: REBUILDING GROUND ZERO series (Discovery & Science Channels) and I am in awe of the thought, design, engineering, and construction that has gone into this project.
In an age when so many aspects of our lives are rushed, and the end-results less than admirable, I am impressed and thankful that NYC took the time to do this right - 10 years, 20 years, who cares. These 16 acres are a timeless memorial to what we experienced and lost that day.
Great job, NYC!
America will rise again in 2012 and beyond. We must united to clean up our huge messes and overcome crisis together. Vote your heart out.
My husband was suppose to be at the base of tower 2 the day of the attacks. Due to a weather issue, his job was cancelled. He was there several days after the attacks and the site had a profound and lasting affect on him. I am proud to say that he is now part of the team building 1WTC. The pictures are awesome, but seeing it first hand is breath taking. God Bless those who lost their lives on that day and the workers who are rebuilding.
amazing work....damn proud to be an American
It's union workers that are rebuilding ground zero...and they are doing a great thing and a good job, however it is ONLY union workers doing this job because you CAN'T get a constuction job in NYC unless you pay dues to a union...I'm proud of ALL those workers, and what they are doing and the sometimes odd hours they must work...but the mechanism that forces them to be unionized is a disgrace to this great country.
I disagree with you. Currently the biggest disgrace to this great country is: President Barrack Hussein Obama.
He has thrown the entire Democratic party under the Bus
He has set the African American Movement back 20 years
He has destroyed our healthcare system
He has destroyed the Middle Class
He has destroyed our relationship with our foreign Allies and he has made an Apology Tour of the middle East and caused the Muslim Brotherhood to infiltrate and grab control of once friendly Countries.
Carl- Are you serious? Let me guess...you think Bush did a better job than Obama? Please say it aint so! I am curious to know how Barack has thrown the democratic party under the bus and how he has set African Americans back years. And how is he ruining health care? Oh, because he wants to give healthcare access to all? All people should have access to healthcare...are you kidding me? Our health care system is disgusting. I'm just glad we finally got a president with big enough balls and enough empathy and compassion for all people to fight for universal healthcare.
I think the skyscraper is a beautiful design. I know others disagree. It's much more elegant than the original towers. The only problem is the obligatory "bunker" pedestal. It has to be there, obviously, because of the friggin' terrorists. David Childs wanted a prism glass veneer, but it didn't work out. The least they can do is paint a nice mural on the pedestal; however, that wouldn't do much for lighting the interior space.
