Egyptian protesters begin to gather in Cairo's Tahrir Square on September 30, 2011 during a mass rally to reclaim the revolution amid anger over the military rulers' handling of the transition.
Political protests in Egypt continue as citizens are increasingly unhappy with the pace of reforms. Some are threatening to boycott the November elections. Sean Penn was invited to show that Egypt is still a safe place for tourists, despite the unrest.

The presence of celebrities in no way demonstrates safety for the average Joe. Were *they* arrested, beaten and held indefinitely (a highly unlikely scenario) there would be an international incident. Not so for the rest of us. With *us* it would blow over in a month and be forgotten.
Celebrities are a privileged lot who by-the-by sometimes back dictators because they are shown a prettied-up side to things, while dealing with the privileged elite "tour-guides". Some even make their own rules during extended stays in impoverished nations, undermining constitutional laws to suit their fancies (google Brangelina + Namibia + the press.) While they do a string of photo-ops. In short they are not respected much back home.
However the emergency laws sound intolerable and it's sad to see you suffer. I hope you guys create enough pessure to get them lifted. Just don't show us our celebrities... unless of course you just want to hang out with them.
It would be nice if this anti-American moron would catch a bullet.
