Museum to myself: Arnold Schwarzenegger's childhood home dedicated

Arnold Schwarzenegger is known for many things. But the bodybuilder, movie star and ex-governor won't be remembered for his humility.

OK, let's see; Arnold came to America w/ the clothes on his back to be the worlds no. 1 bodybuilder. He had no money so he began a brick-laying business w/ his friend Franco Columbo and they worked hard and did very well and Arnold found he was a born marketer and a very good business-man.
While making his first million dollars at his business he also worked-out harder than anyone had ever seen before and became Mr. Olympia, keeping his promise to be the best in the world!
He took ALL of his earnings and invested in broken-down, fixer-upper, commercial property on the old side of L.A.; fixed the properties up himself and re-sold them at enormous profit and became a multi-millionaire.
Upon claiming an office in one of his buildings for himself; he then pursued his other child-hood dream although he was still learning English: to be the no. 1 Movie-Star in the world. We all know that part of the story and I like millions of others loved Arnold's movies!!
He then set out to become Governor of the largest state in America; and did so...twice!! While marrying a beautiful, accomplished celebrity in her own right, from the Kennedy family!
This is just a very abridged list of Arnold's massive, unimaginable, accomplishments!!
So now a bunch of losers here login and denigrate this truly amazing and inspiring man (who's made some very public mistakes)
Sure, it's fun to insult and denigrate successful people when were unsuccessful and haven't really done much w/ our lives- but to attempt to detract from the remarkable life and times of Arnold Schwarzenneger is impossible; the man is incredible!
So, totally show how vile and classless YOU are by actually remarking about his penis and any other low-class subject that says much more about YOU than it does about Arnold! And remember that your life is paltry and small and meek in comparison.
Sure, I was disappointed by this final relationship misadventure and all the sordid details, but Arnold is definitely one of my hero's and always will be!!

And remember that your life is paltry and small and meek in comparison.

That will NEVER be the case. I have never had the degree of self-loathing and disrespect for my spouse to do anything in my life that Arnold did to his and to his wife and his children, including the one he kept hidden (and now embarrassed). From this day forward, I could die happy and very fulfilled. Arnold will always be a low-life POS for what he did to disgrace and disrespect his own family and a wife who stood by him and supported everything he chose to do...

...all of your penis remarks and "I have Arnold on a pedestal" delusions notwithstanding.

Although I cannot disagree w/ the severity of the awful way in which the man did 'his wife wrong', and I do NOT excuse his infidelity or deplorable behavior in the least!

That said, your point changes none of what I said or my feelings. Arnold was never perfect, especially in his European ideals of females and relationships, and I knew of his flawed character already but I cannot subtract the entirety of the unbelievably positive accomplishments, charity and happiness to others that have been the hallmark of the man for decades either!

Anyone who idolizes arnold simply does not know who this guy really is, hell even arnold is not sure who he is. Back in the 80s arnold sponsored a contest called the "arnold classic" and i think he still sponsors it today, but at that time and place he actually entered his own bodybuilding contest, and won it of course !!! The rub was that the guy everyone thought should have won the contest was "Mike mentzer" and mentzer questioned the rules about a contestant who paid for the judges entering their own show which almost touched off a fist fight!! Arnold is and always will be the benchmark for arrogance and egotism, why do you think he was attracted to bodybuilding? In that world you spend most of you're time working out and looking at you're self in the mirror

mysterious stranger. Your right, but you got to realize all 3 of the last Presidents played us for fools. Right before Clinton left office he turned over the Glass Steagall act. which has lead to the heart of the countrys problems today on debt and jobs and inflation. I belive Bush was just stupid and his puppet as Cheney has said, but Clinton I belive knew better. The whole globilization idea pushed forward with Clintons deregulation and future AFTA's bills was a complete sell out of our country. The worst part is, when men play with globilization and it fails over time as it always has. History has shown that previous attempts have ended in trade wars which in turn led to the World Wars. With todays weapons I respect the fear or a world war more than ever.

Clinton did not repeal Glass-Steagall. The bill to repeal that most important act ("Gramm-Leach-Bliley") passed both houses of Congress by VETO-PROOF majorities. There was nothing that he could do to stop it.

            Mr Jonathan Woods,

Thank you for responding to me personally. If indeed you are not the source of the obvious bias that I referred to in the article, that should have been indicated, as my only available assumption is that you as the stated author were responsible for the comments. I take you at your word that you were not. As such, I publicly apologize to you and re-direct my comments to the unnamed individual who labeled such sculptures / statues as "dolls".

As for the rest of the article, I will say that you do seem to support the unnamed person's bias in the regard of Arnold's lack of humility - which is not news, and easy to jump on the bandwagon for.

So I must downgrade my personal attack, and state that for the record, it seems to me that in one hundred years, Arnold will be remembered - for better of for worse - and neither you nor I will be.

We Americans are fascinated with the antics, public and private, of those we "celebrate" ("Celebrities"). Sometimes it gets out of hand, but Arnold seems to thrive off it unlike many famous people. So he dedicates a museum to himself. And yes, that's good fodder for an article and that's your job. You get paid for it, while my comments are my own and posted for free. You have the right and ability to delete them, but let's celebrate something besides celebrities, like our freedom of self-expression. Both yours and mine. In that spirit, I ask that you leave both my original comment, and this follow-up, to remain on this board.

Thank you, sincerely, Greg G. AKA "99octane".

There is something oddly surreal about an Arnold Schwarzenegger museum. I've been to Salzburg to see the Mozart house --which incidentally sounds more interesting than it is. I wouldn't make a deliberate trip to Austria to see the Schwarzenegger museum though.

I'm not a Schwarzenegger fan, but he did go from body building to acting to governor of California. He made a successful living just being Arnold.

99octane / Greg G. - Thanks for the discourse. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to respond. I have no intentions of deleting your comments.

In defense of the Getty Images contributor who sent the photos, there could be a German-English language barrier, for which calling the life-size wax mannequins “dolls” was the best option. I’m not offering excuses for lack of due diligence. (Google translate wasn’t much help, anyone on this thread fluent in German?) Just saying that the expression of such frustration may not be entirely necessary.

I agree wholeheartedly that the doings and proclivities of celebrities, politicians and other public figures dominate the news media. But (devil’s advocate here) they were once a nobody, too. So next time a spotlight shines on you, revel in it. Who knows, maybe in 50 years you and I will be inaugurating our hall of fame for snarky commenters. :)

As to your accusation of my bias or and slant toward believing Arnold Schwarzenegger (if only publically) is not a humble man, I’m absolutely and irrefutably guilty. He paid to have several massive versions of himself cast in bronze for crying out loud!

Last – couldn’t agree with you more that we should focus less on celebrities and more on stories that need to be reported. I’m a voracious consumer of news and information, and I love telling stories. That in mind, when I spotted the first of these images, I knew we had to dig deeper and publish something.

I'm hardly fluent, but the German "Wachspuppe" literally translates into English as "wax doll," but implies a wax figure like the ones depicted. However, "Wachsfigur" is also an appropriate description of the same thing, so it would depend on the original native caption and who made the translation. I suspect a minor error of semantics.

Oh, but I do remember the "great stars" from before I was born that were loaded with acting talent. Arnold, is neither a star, nor does he have talent. What he did, was lucked up on some great scripts, none of which took a great amount of talent to pull off. I remember James Cagney -- one of the most talented "stars" to ever grace the screen. He started out as a dancer. After accepting a life-time achievement Oscar for all of the great movies he made that will never be forgotten, you know what this great Hollywood talent said?

"I'm just a hoofer who got lucky."

Now, that's a man for you -- a great talent, and a great man. Never brought shame to himself, or his family.

And Arnold succeeded as Mr. Universe, and was asked to do film. He went on to appear on many films that I'm sure you can name. I don't care if it was the same act, the fact is his name is known all over the world. Like it or not, he is a known star. No one says you have to go see his museum. But that doesn't mean others won't.

Not sure why you think your opinion of him is final for everyone else. He is a star, you can swallow that or not, I'm sure he doesn't care.

Well, since you are speaking for someone else, what did she mean by this:

Arnold, is neither a star, nor does he have talent

Talent, fine that is a matter of opinion..

All the ones of "pure" ancestry anyways.

This is the ARNOLD museum. So, the only ancestry (clearly!) that matters, is HIS.

So, the original question stands: Picture of ALL his kids in that gallery?

He was a HORRIBLE actor. But the stories were cult-like, flashy, explosive, and sometimes funny (like True Lies). He was succesful because of the writing and special/visual effects.

                      But ACTING? LMFAO!!

Phyllis, why are you so full of HATE? People like you spew the same repeated venomous propaganda with absolutely NO understanding of the truth or of how politics or our government works. Yes, America is in deep trouble. Let me ask you if America is better off now than four years ago? Is Obama so incompetent that he can not overcome the alleged mistakes of George W.? Or, is Obama incompetent with his and the democrats policy's which caused most of Americas problems since he became president? How can you people keep blaming W for what the current administration has done to America? I am neither Republican or Democrat but I have been a registered member of both parties over the last 40+ years. Please read the bills before they are voted on and who voted for what and how it will affect America first, not what is in it for you personally. That is part of the problem. People want the government to support them. Someone has to pay for that.

"I place economy among the first and most important virtues and public debt as the greatest dangers to be feared." --Thomas Jefferson

"But with respect to future debt; would it not be wise and just for that nation to declare in the constitution they are forming that neither the legislature, nor the nation itself can validly contract more debt, than they may pay within their own age, or within the term of 19 years." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, 1789

“Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle. The real extent of this state of misinformation is known only to those who are in situations to confront facts within their knowledge with the lies of the day.” - Thomas Jefferson

To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it. - Thomas Jefferson

When Congress once begins to stretch its power beyond the limits of the Constitution, there is no limit to it, and no security for the people. - Horatio

"During the course of administration, and in order to disturb it, the artillery of the press has been leveled against us, charged with whatsoever its licentiousness could devise or dare. These abuses of an institution so important to freedom and science are deeply to be regretted, in as much as they tend to lessen its usefulness and to sap its safety." --Thomas Jefferson, Second Inaugural Address, 1805

"A fondness for power is implanted, in most men, and it is natural to abuse it, when acquired." --Alexander Hamilton, The Farmer Refuted, 1775

Interestingly, Marxism, Communism and its derivative, Socialism, when seen years later in practice, are nothing but state-capitalism and rule by a privileged minority, exercising despotic and total control over a majority which is left with virtually no property or legal rights. This explains why the Rothschilds’ were so interested in funding these ideologies, which would subsequently develop into, “democracy,” a system of the two party state in which both parties are controlled by the same force, and whilst they may squabble over insignificant issues, to give the impression of opposing one another, they actually follow the same basic ideology, which is why the inhabitants of democracies soon discover that it doesn't matter who they vote for, nothing ever changes. - Andrew Carrington Hitchcock

“Tolerance and apathy are the last virtues of a dying civilization.” — Aristotle

"Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance!" - Voltaire, 18th Century French Philosopher

"Buy the truth, and sell it not; Yea, wisdom, and instruction, and understanding" -- Proverbs 23:23

Self esteem and EGO are two different things. One tells you that you are valuable the other tells you that you are the only person in the world and everyone is here for your convenience.

Come on people, he has been an iconic star from my childhood and many people still say lines from his movies. As a bodybuilder he was undefeated for 11 years in every competition he ever competed in 66'-70' - Mr Universe, 70'-75' Mr. Olympia. He has stared in 37 movies as well, just for that he should be very proud. People confuse arrogance for confidence every day of the week. It truly gets old.

I agree, Arnold has accomplished more in his life than most as a Austrian born immigrant who realized the American Dream and worked hard to achieve that goal.

His museum is a testament to that and a proudly well deserved tribute to his accomplishments.

No one is perfect and neither is he but he is part of our great American legacy of famous people who achieved that dream.
