Other than ten years ago while a tourist in Switzerland (in late August), I haven't been in any snow for 36 years. Living in Phoenix and looking at pictures of this strange white stuff in other places has a nice cooling effect for some of us desert rats. The kids and skiers should really enjoy it up there in Colorado ... just hope all of those people get their electricity back soon. Peace to all.
This is nothing new in COLDorado.
Sissies. Lived there in mid and late Sixties. Best friends with Walt Conley, Father of Denver Folk Music phenomenon. Snow killed my roses each September, and each May. Drove a TR-4 off the road onto a cornice at the top of Loveland Pass (pre-tunnel years) one March on my way to ski Aspen. Went to grad school at Boulder. Living on the Front Range is an outdoor adventure even now. Expect to have 30 to 50 lightening strikes per hour from Boulder to the Springs with a decent storm, 100+mph winds at the NCAR Research Center, and vicious canyon floods (Thompson Canyon). Most exciting intellectual, cultural and physical environment I have ever experienced. Revel in it.
For those of us that live here......
Wasn't it glorious in Colorado in the late 60's early 70's...........! Had a TR4A that I drove To Leadville in a March blizzard back then, may have passed you on the top, mine was British racing green..... god I miss that car!!!! That's the absolute truth, actor.
Your post is spot on, I will never regret leaving the East Coast and heading west, my life took a completely positive turn here in Colorado, for the very reasons you so astutely stated. I learned that money will never BUY happiness and spending every waking moment pursuing it will hobble you. Life is for living and it only lasts about 30 minutes.
Thank for your uplifting and oh so truthful post!
Wow, I'll take a Colorado snow storm anytime even without power. Been back here four years and love it! Lived in Michigan and in 2003 we got hit with a snow/ice storm and had no power for about 4 days. No heat, all the food on the back porch, cooking on a camp-stove and walking around looking like tele tubbies in sleeping bags. Of course, the one funny part was we just couldn't miss "Survivor" so my husband hooked up a traveling tv to the car battery and an old fashioned antenna so we could all huddle around. Good memory, but give me Colorado any day.
Hope they get the power hooked up for every one soon!
Another amusing part of that storm was my husband had to cut up some cracked branches in the backyard. We laughed our a**es off when he came inside and the coat stood up on it's own. My husband says we sound like a bunch of loonies, but it's good to laugh instead of cry.
Love the snow, but the people without power, that sucks. Hope it gets remedied soon!
Holy Sh!t!
Whoops! Pls. excuse French.
ha imagine my luck when I wake up to find I had no power which in fact means no alarm clock and a dead phone lucky though I finally figure out no school so my waking up 2 hours late wasnt bad well I guess it all worked out being able to have my windows down on monday and get a snow day on wednesday is what I love about colorado!! :)
Thanks for the news, I lived in Colorado for 31 years and loved it, but now we move to the Philippines and we've been here for 2 1/2 years and we missed the snow.
I live in neb. I HOPE to see that snow a lot latter than sooner...
