'White soldiers' patrol Jerusalem streets in performance art piece

I am not usually a big fan of performance art, but the images of these soldiers are quite striking.

Artist Yuda Braun explains his "the white soldier" project this way:

White from head to toe, in full combat gear – I patrol the paths of  Jerusalem, Palestinian villages and Israeli settlements.

Although the project is trying to raise public discourse, it is first and foremost driven from personal feud. Through the character I surface an existential debate regarding the violent tension we live in.

With the fusion of two charged symbols a new ambiguous icon is forged.  The white has various connotations and may be perceived as a symbol of purity,  surrender or even a deathly angel.

Yehuda Bar On (L) and Ram Mizrahi (C), former Israeli soldiers turned artist, prepare for an art performance entitled 'The White Soldier' at a temporary shelter in Jerusalem on October 27. The White Soldier 'patrolled' along the 1967 'Green Line' that separated Israel from Jordanian-controlled East Jerusalem that was captured by Israel in the 1967 Six-Days, which Israel claims has 'reunified' the Holy City of Jerusalem. On June 1, thousands of right-wing Israelis will march through Jerusalem in their annual parade to mark the 43rd anniversary of Israel's capture of the eastern part of the city.
