In 2010, msnbc.com profiled nearly two dozen Tea Party activists in Indiana to learn about their concerns and motivations. At the time, many were getting involved in politics for the first time -- organizing groups, attending rallies, working phone banks and canvassing neighborhoods. We recently checked in with them to hear their thoughts on the GOP candidates for president and the newest protest movement in the neighborhood, Occupy Wall Street.

Lenn "Curley" Gapinski, aka George Washington pose for a portrait at his vineyard in Monticello, Ind. Friday, October 15, 2010
Lenn “Curley” Gapinski, 59, is a retired mechanical engineer who owns a vineyard and winery outside Monticello, Ind., with his wife, Cheryl. He is a member of the White County Tea Party Patriots and teaches classes on the U.S. Constitution.
What he’s doing now:
Gapinski remains fiercely independent and deeply religious.
“My involvement is — first choice — with Jesus Christ and getting people involved with their churches. The Tea Party, part of it, comes along with it -- the conservative values,” he says. “I still do the Bill of Rights (classes). But I’m more concerned in increasing membership with the church than with the Tea Party.”
In his reading of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the founding fathers did not seek to eliminate religion from government, merely to prevent domination by one stripe of Christianity over another.
Gapinski aligns with conservatives who want replace Sen. Richard Lugar. Among Lugar’s offenses, Gapinski says, was a vote that favored restrictions on carrying concealed weapons.
On the Tea Party now
Gapinski is part of a rural Tea Party group that has balked at state and national Tea Party organizations’ efforts to merge into a larger organization.
He says the group “wanted to remain strictly grassroots” andavoid being controlled, even by groups with which they are politically allied.
“(Members) didn’t want a president of the Tea Party,” says Gapinski. “Everyone in the Republican Party wants to hijack the Tea Party, and the libertarians would like to hijack the Tea Party. They can’t. We’re just a bunch of independent individuals.”
On the 2012 presidential election:
In coming elections, Gapinski says he would vote for any one of the Republican candidates — except one.
“I’m not totally committed to say anybody but Barack Obama… I have a problem with Jon Huntsman. I don’t feel that he is conservative. I would rather continue with Barack Obama if Jon Huntsman received the (GOP) nomination.”
Then, according to his reasoning, the pendulum would swing with more force back to the right.
“We had a very conservative president (Ronald Reagan) who followed Jimmy Carter. You would not have had a strong conservative if you did not have a liberal first. I would rather continue with Barack Obama until we had a full-fledged conservative choice.
“There are a lot of people who say you just have to take it a step at a time, but I’m with the group that will say you can’t sacrifice your values and principles… whether you think (a candidate) will win or not. You’re not going to a horse race, you voting on the future of the country.”
On the Occupy Wall Street Movement:
What does the Tea Party movement have in common with the Occupy movement?
“Not a damn thing,” says Gapinski.
“The Tea Party, when we had our meetings … we left our facilities in a cleaner state than when we came. ... There were no incidents of rape, we did not camp out, we did not urinate on vehicles. We actually paid to hold our rallies, we paid for police protection, we had to provide porta-potties.
"What does OWS stand for? They've come up with dozens of things: They’re against big corporate interests, big banks, against criminality of drugs. … Their main purpose — if you look at what’s happening in Oakland -- is anarchy. It isn’t a good thing and its turning violent. It’s turning into the late 1960s all over again.”

Faith Jones near by her home in Valparaiso, Ind., Oct. 14, 2010.
Faith Taylor, nee Faith Jones, 59, did not respond to requests for an update interview. The Northwest Indiana Patriots, which she co-founded in 2009 in Valparaiso, Ind. has been disbanded.
What she’s doing now:
Jones' Facebook page indicates she is still the fiery defender of Tea Party causes we met a year ago. Taylor’s profile image shows her carrying a sign that reads, “Repeal, Reduce, Restore.”
On the 2012 presidential elections:
According to her Facebook page, Taylor has jumped on the “Cain train.”
As of Monday, the day that a woman went public with her sexual harassment accusations against GOP presidential nominee Herman Cain, Taylor apparently remained convinced that the harassment claims against the candidate are part of a smear campaign.
Elsewhere in her postings, she describes Cain and Newt Gingrich as “the two best candidates.”
On the Occupy Wall Street movement:
Taylor is clearly not a fan of the emerging mass protest movement. Her Facebook page documents the arrests, allegations of violence, litter and behavior she considers offensive. One post features a photograph of an effigy of President Barack Obama being carried by Occupy Wall Street Protesters on Nov. 5.
Taylor’s comment: “The TEA PARTY never did this!! This kind of stuff is PATHETIC.”

Christine Murdoch pose for a portrait in front of her home Thursday, October 14, 2010, in South Bend, Ind.
What she’s doing:
“Right now I am involved with the local South Bend city election. I am taking around signs for our mayoral candidate, who is a great person and has held his own in all the debates. However, he doesn't stand a chance. Also I am co-chairing a spaghetti dinner fund raiser for Richard Mourdock.”
Like many Indiana Tea Party conservatives, she hopes Mourdock (no relation), the state treasurer, will unseat Lugar in the GOP primary. She believes the six-term senator has become too liberal.
“Lugar has held the U.S. Senate seat for 35 years," she says. "How about term limits? He will be 80 next year and if he should win he would be 86 at the end of that term. I know how it feels to be 80 plus 6 and it is definitely time for a younger person.”
On the Tea Party now:
“I am still active with the Tea Party and feel they are just as strong if not stronger than before. We always have new people coming to the meetings. The Tea Party has changed directions and is not gathering in protest groups as they did. They are working behind the scenes for candidates. They don't just look at the headlines but do research in depth and report back. … I think the TP has come a long way learning how things work is the 'real world' of politics and will do a lot better than before.
“I think the thing that is helping us most and is raising our image somewhat is the comparison with the Occupy Movement. We compare so favorably.”
On Occupy Wall Street:
“The only similarity (between the two movements) is that we gather in groups and protest. In my opinion there is no need to get involved with these other groups. I think the Occupy movement is partly financed by various liberal people and is really a 2011 Woodstock. These people are really angry, just as we, are but express it so differently!”
On the 2012 presidential election:
“We take straw votes at our meeting and the vote swings all around, constantly changing. I favor (Mitt) Romney as I think he has the best chance of winning. I like Cain too. Maybe they could run together.”

Kent Hizer at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 in Mishawaka, Ind. on Oct. 14, 2010. Hizer is running for the township board in Penn Township of St. Joseph County.
What he’s doing now
Hizer was elected president of the Penn Township Board, in a part of Indiana that is traditionally a Democratic stronghold.
One reason for the upset was that Hizer used the Freedom of Information Act to access documents that exposed an alleged spending scandal in local government. The township trustee and his assistant have been indicted on seven felony counts, and go on trial in April.
“My only goal was to hold my elected officials accountable,” says Hizer. “I feel I have already accomplished that for the most part.”
Now in office, Hizer is preparing a website where he will post all Penn Township financial documents, budgets, meeting minutes, and meeting times so they can be viewed by the public.
On the Tea Party now:
“My association with the Tea Party is I’m conservative in my political views -- more of that is fiscal than social. ... Our government and both parties are responsible for spending us into oblivion. Eventually something had to be done.
“What we’re seeing (with the Tea Party) — and we’re also seeing it with 'Occupy Wall Street' — is there doesn’t seem to be a real solidified mission sometimes, and certainly not any centralized leadership. The farther the Tea Party goes along this, the more it seems to be fractured — from community to community, state to state. ... People seem to really be in flux.”
On the Occupy Wall Street movement:
“They have stolen the thunder (of the Tea Party) in that they are the protest group du jour in the media,” he says.
Tea Party activists often assert they have nothing in common with the Occupy Wall Street movement, but Hizer disagrees.
“What they have in common is their concern about the direction of the country. The other thing they share is the way they are structured they are not focused in one particular direction. … It gets a little hard if you want to effect change.
“It seems a lot of people who are in (Occupy Wall Street) movement have gone to college, and gone in debt to do it, and now they can’t get a job to pay for it. … I do have empathy for them, even though I would say most lean on the other end of the political spectrum from me.
“Regardless if I agree with their methods. … I’m encouraged that people have gotten to the level of frustration that they have gone out there to get engaged.”
On the 2012 presidential election:
“Early on, I was supporting Michele Bachmann. I’ve moved away … because sometimes I think she can’t think quickly enough on her feet. Sometimes, she says things that are quite far out there.
“In the last few weeks I’ve found myself favoring Cain.
“Number one, he seems to have kept a sense of humor. What I like about him is that… he says what is on his mind. I’d rather have someone come out unpolished than come out with some kind of spin… I like the fact that he’s run corporations and knows what kind of challenges businesses face.”?

One thing that comes immediately to mind - most of them are close to Cain - so how all the Tea Party haters are going to keep explaining that Tea Party is just a bunch of racists?
It was the "white slavery" signs and the N-word proudly displayed on their banners that gave them away.
At least those were the signs they spell checked.
65,000 blacks were in the Confederate Army.
correction 65,000 blacks were forced to fight with the confederate army.
It was that or be whipped to death.
The "tea party" is DEAD.
The "tea party" is a SCAM.
A creation of Koch and the other rich to defuse and confuse.
The Koch bros., founders-funders of the tea party, have been trading secretly with Iran.
The Koch bros. company Cargill hires hundreds of thousands of undocumented workers.
.
@US1776: With profound elegance you describe the Tea party. I'm now curious to read your analysis on the OWS movement. please share:
Andy in the 10's of thousands that protested across the USA in the Tea Party movement, a few were going to be bad apples. In all, the Tea Party was peaceful, clean and orderly. Based on the way you use a sweeping brush, you're also willing to say the Occupy people are a bunch of drug addled, thieving rapist that only seek anarchy and destruction?
Bentbrass the tea party is many groups of shame that have all found each other.
Which group they become active in is dependent on which people they want to blame
For some its the Mexicans
For others its Blacks
Then there are the Gay haters How dare they want marriage or to serve in the military like actual Americans.
The women who get abortion blamers
Blame the poor yeah that works.
Those elderly are drains many scream
Then there are those bused in by the Koch to chant Its all the unions fault.
All under one umbrella with tea bags dangling proudly while taking marching orders from Fox pundits and friends.
They proudly display their banner with Obama as monkey LOL and hands off my Medicare, hate big government banners side by side, but you can't blame them because most of them dumb assss didn't know that Medicare is government run program. Tea bagger shoulda thanks the Democrat party for created social safety net that they enjoy today, all the social safety net programs were created by the Decmocreat party and was strongly opposed by the Right wingers back there, without the fierce fight from the Democrat party and let the right wingers have their ways, Imagine how the country would be like, we would be thirdy world country with the poors and the elderly dying on the streets, and the Pony buggy wagons express will be the most advance highway.
Can you tea baggers name a single social safety programs that the Tea baggers or Republican party creat to help the poors? I bet there's none.
MSNBC is biased in favor of the Tea Party it's not even subtle any more. The Tea Party has been around for several years now. Is there REALLY anyone still out there that doesn't know what their goals are?
This whole article is just another excuse to spread Tea Party propaganda without giving the other side any chance at all for a rebuttal. How can anyone think this is objective journalism? A whole series in which one political movement gets to attack a rival political movement with NO REBUTTAL WHATSOEVER. And now they've done it not once but TWICE.
Where is the "Faces of Occupy Wall Street" series? Oh...wait...MSNBC is a big, multinational corporation so they'll never give OWS a fair chance. They'll just keep right on spreading negative propaganda and running attack stories.
It's pathetic. They aren't even subtle about their pro Tea Party agenda any more.
LOL....It's great to see some of the Democrap Colostomy Baggers from OWS have apparently taken a break and stepped out of their homeless encampments. What's wrong? No more American Flags to dump paint and dance on? No more woman in the tents to rape? Or are you just out and about to find a Police Car to take a dump on?
It's not as simple as saying the Tea Party are racist or not racist. There are shades of gray in everything and racism is no exception. One can have a subtle racial bias that is overcome by rabidly strong political ideology.
I think there are very few Tea Party people that would refuse to vote for a black man. However, I think that there are a great many that would be a bit more critical of an African American democrat and a little less enthusiastic about an African American republican. As long as the racial bias is subtle (as it usually is), it will be easily overcome by the extreme conservative mentality. A very strong conservative with a subtle racial bias will always vote for a black conservative over a democrat of any race. That doesn't mean that the bias doesn't exist.
UnitedStates1776
ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Good, just keep thinking that. This is just where we want you Libbie Socialists to be.
What do you think the millions of TEA Party members have been doing since Nov. 2010? I can assure you it isn't rioting and vandalizing like the useful idiots we all see every day now from the OWS (Only Want Socialism) mob. No, we have been organizing. We are actually vetting our candidates for local, state and federal positions. Perhaps if you Liberals would have actually vetted the Incompetent In Chief we have trespassing in our White House we might have been on the road to recovery by now. We understand your frustration with the "Great Mistake of 2008" but you created it.
We don't need large rallies or protests anymore. The world knows who and what the TEA Party is. Our Core Values have been explained and they were embraced by the real Americans who believe in American exceptionalism in Nov. 2010. We have learned from our mistakes. We have engaged in our communities. We are embracing the concept that all elections are local. From there we assure ourselves and the American people we will continue to expose the Socialism disguising as Progressivism.
Our movement is proud to be American. We support our Constitution rather than trample on it like the Liberals have been doing for decades. We realize that capitalism works unless our corrupt government continues to intrude on it. Fiscal responsibility must be obtained by tax reform and massive austerity moves. We refuse to submit to the iron fist of the Socialists who want to fundamentally transform the greatest Republic in history.
So go right ahead, believe we are dead, we want that. Just remember, our movement actually got off our a$$ and not only asked for change in 2010, we demanded it. And we got it.
All we can tell you is, wait until 2012.
You ain't seen nothing yet.
ABO (Anybody But Obama) 2012
I'm so happy to see differing opinions on this topic.
This is what makes America GREAT!
Would've You seen this in China or Russia, etc.?
Different views and opinions, that's what a 'Free Society' is all about. First Amendment grants US that Right. Freedom of expression.
We are all united. We're a Nation.
Seriously! The Tea Party is a collection of Jingoistic, Reactionary (People who define themselves not by what they are for but rather who and or what they are against), loud mouth wear it on your sleeve Christians ((who act anything but christian), "coded racists" (for them, Cain is a delusional attempt to either convince themselves or the rest of us that they are not racists - good luck with that), proudly ignorant, cognitively challenged, intellectually lazy, mean spirited, selfish, corporately sponsored, easily led Dim Bulbs! Comparing the Tea Party to the 99% is like comparing the Village Idiot to Einstein.
TkWIs
You mean the social safety programs like the "War on Poverty"? The one that in 1960 showed we had 14% poverty and today, after spending over $12 TRILLION DOLLARS, it is 15.1%?
You mean the social safety programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security that have created $115 TRILLION DOLLARS in Unfunded Liabilities (IOU's) that we're all responsible for repaying?
You mean the social safety programs like Welfare that have created generational dependence on the government (which in case you don't understand is us) with no ambition to free themselves?
You mean the social safety programs like Public Education that despite TENS OF TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS allows most American's to read at only an 8th grade level and our high school graduates to rank in the bottom third of OECD nations in reading, math and science?
Those social safety programs??????
You're right, we don't want to be associated with any of those failing social safety programs. Only you delusional Liberals can actually believe that they are doing something good for our great Republic.
That is the disease known as Liberalism, we're immune from it.
Those few trouble makers at the Tea Party rallies were liberal operatives carrying out a disinformation campaign. This has long since been reported on. Liberals are so proud of this they have a website you can sign up to volunteer for such things. Despicable, but what can you expect from the poster party for voter fraud and intimidation.
It's amazing how racist liberals are. Everything is about race, the very antitheses of what MLK wanted. We should have been a color blind society by now but liberals can't let that happen. Their very survival depends on divisiveness, pitting one group against another. Rich vs poor, white vs black, black vs Hispanic, atheist vs Christian, union vs non union, public vs private, etc; when they say "celebrate diversity" what they really mean is celebrate divisiveness.
Remember when Obama said he would unite the country? It is more divisive now that it has ever been in my long lifetime. Actions speak louder than words.
Which group they become active in is dependent on which people they want to blame
No, for the Tea Party it isn't against Mexicans. It is about people illegally crossing the border. I live in an area with a heavy population of former Mexican nationals and they bring a strong sense of family and hard work to the community. What illegals bring is the heavy burden placed of the local economy; the dilution of monies for our educational system, an over load in emergency rooms (most often for simple colds), the inundation of drug trafficking, the rise in local thefts and a drain on state income because the support this group takes from those paying into the system.
I'm sorry, there may be a few racist in the Tea Party but I bet I can find a lot more people with a viseral hatred of Christians among the OWS. Hate is hate and it doesn't belong in any party.
Hmmm, it took Obama how long to ask "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, that was initiated by which president?
For some, abortion is more than just scraping tissue out of a uterus.
Most Tea Party are more than willing to send their tax dollars to help the poor and needy. Why is it so hard to believe that what they rail against is the abuse of the system by some of these people and the desire of the Democrats to make the umbrella even bigger. What part of BROKE don't you understand?
This is a lie being propagated by they Dems. Supporting the elderly; saving a failing system is a goal of the Tea Party, not seeing the elderly suffer. That is a blatant lie or just purely political.
Oh my, someone paid to have protesters bused in. It's called freedom of speech. Or are you willing to denounce the Unions and the Democratic parties constantly busing in protesters including OWS?
I find much more commonality and synchronism in the comments on Newsvine everyday than anything from the Tea Party movement. We might be under one umbrella with our tea bags dangling but just remember who got tea bagged? about Fox, who gives a rats hooey about them. I get my news from MSNBC every morning... oh, they must be part of a conservative conspiracy now too?
Personaly I have never accused the Tea Party of being racist. I have accused them of being short-sighted, self-absorbed and bought and paid for but not racist.
The Tea Party was a fast burning candle. Their favorability polling now stands at around 20%, (below Muslims.) They just held the first Tea Party Convention in Florida and invited all the candidates. Only Rick Santorum showed up and most likely because his polling can't sink much lower. Even Michele avoided it and she is dead last. The Tea Party candidate, Cain, called in rather than go there. No major player came. Zero.
All in all then versus now shows time was kind to them considering how angry and mean they started out. Today they are simply yesterday's news.
The biggest fear the liberals have is the original meaning of the constitution of the USA.
It would mean the miscontrued crap they pose as the meanings would be worthless, and the truth of the matters would limit their push of regulations and big government control.
The fact that our founding fathers formed this nation to endure as a free nation, and NOT be manipulated into socialism as the liberals would like.
The funniest thing about liberals is, they do NOT embrace LIBERTY, only tout socialism.
Norcal, angry and mean, lets see who does that describe. Tea Party arrest 0 OWS lost count. Burnings Tea Party 0 Ows lost count. Criminal activity Tea Party 0 OWS lost count. Lets kick all Jews out of the country OWS protester. I think we know who the angry ones are.
TP is tool of 1%ers.
OWS is a peaceful group that does not allow guns or violence. There are a small amount of anarchists that always show up and hide in the crowds around the world. They mask their faces. As soon as an opportunity arises they strike like the 70 anarchists in Oakland that the crowd of 3,000 OWS protestors took down and held for police.
The police Chief explained it to the media in a news conference and complimented the OWS protestors but I guess you missed it.
LOL....One of the most ignorant statements here!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSNBC
When did the progressives join the tea party?
The Tea Partiers are all old, angry people who can't believe they have gotten old and are not in control.
They have nothing in common with the average young American family struggling to make it today, if they did they couldn't be Tea Partiers.
S.Ulmer
Exactly!
Constitutional originalism is an unknown to Liberals. How can it be when our own empty suit president Obama demonizes the fact that the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties? This from an alleged professor of Constitutional thought. Socialism clouds their minds and judgment. They have been so thoroughly indoctrinated in the "social and economic justice of the collective" idiocy they can no longer argue, let alone think, rationally.
As they embrace the diseases of Liberalism, and more painfully Progressivism, they are obtunded to rational discussion. They project their own deep seated racism, bigotry, bias and other inadequacies in a vain attempt to "appear" concerned. As they watch their symbolic and revered socialist states collapsing in Europe, they realize how horribly wrong the whole social engineering experiment known as socialism truly is.
Unfortunately they have become so dependent on the exact entity they claim is the problem, capitalism, to sustain their elaborate wet dream, they refuse to admit their inability to survive on their own. The term "useful idiot" is very accurate regarding what has happened to their dysfunctional thought process. Blindly following rather than wanting to be the leaders our nation has become accustomed to is their downfall.
The only word to describe the Liberal mind is,,,,pitiful.
;)
the headline should have feces of the TEAliban TEArrorists , GOP/TP=Greedy One Percent/Tax Evading American Party are bought, paid for by the greedy corporate wealthy and koch brothers americans for prosperity and trained by their heritage foundation. they are brainwashed soldiers doing the bidding of the Greedy One Percent.
You mean like OWS, which pretty much protest AGAINST whatever it is they're protesting against??? Sorry, but it really is the same thing, isn't it???
So, I read this article, and had to let out a long drawn out sigh. These bags of fetid skin serve no real purpose. I guarantee the 80-something year old collects SSI, and the others are looking down that same hall. Along with SSI, most likely Medicare as well. Living contradictions. Anyone that gets anything from the gubbment, and votes conservative, has 0 credibility, because they exhibit the comprehension of a kitchen appliance. Conservative economics got us into this mess. Yea BO isn't offering much, BUT NO OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD IS! None of them know how to fix this, and we have these conservative wind-bag knuckle draggers, beating their chests like a bunch of neanderthals, chanting about taking more away from the hardworking people who were set back by THEIR policies. The "tea party" didn't win jack schitt, rank and file republican drones took a couple seats, and these rejects got their panties all wet. "Ain't seen nothin' yet", spoken like a true hillbilly. Look at this joke of a republican race going on. Cain the pervert, Romney the snoozer, Perry the idiot, Paul the ignored and blacked out (and only one with any type of sense), Bachmann the evil devil woman.... And not a single answer, except "slash, slash, slash, tax break for the rich" and the same trash "trickle nowhere" theory. Maybe decades ago the tricklenomics could have worked, but big business hordes cash, and gives excess money to the CEO's and NOT to new jobs. Even REAGAN SAID THE RICH NEED NO BREAKS AND NEED TAXED PROPERLY!!!! Pick and choose, though, right? Despicable.
Where are the Tea People who look like Herman Cain at? They are revisiting the Faces right?
I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would support a man who is being accused by four different women of unwanted sexual advances "conservative values"? I saw where a convesative TV host asked "why did they wait 15 yrs"? He wasn't running for President,,, and remember two of these women where paid money. (Admission of guilt?) Why can't a candidate show leadership and stand up and say this action will not be tolerated? Why can't one of them say, I will not share the stage with you until you come clean? Remember he is running for President he is not in a Court of Law, so do not answer: innocent until proven guilt..... I'm an independent voter and like the Occupiers I am sick of it!!! Can someone with commen sense please stand up for all of us!
Norcal, I was just responding to what you said. In all organizations there are good and bad. I believe both groups are really patriotic and are doing what they feel is in the best interest of the country. I'm in agreement with concepts of both ,but not a member of either.
Ahhhhhhhh,
It gives me no greater pleasure to read the Liberal (I stand corrected, Progressive) posts, here and on the other propaganda sites like MenialMatters, Huff-N-Puff Post and the Daily Kuss, and watch as their little brains scramble and explode as they see their Socialist/Liberal/Progressive dreams falling apart.
As the irrelevant, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, illiterate, violent mobs in the OWS expose the true George Soros, goonion, DNC driven plot to create their romanticized nanny-state collapse, the world laughs at them. It's amusing to watch as these useful idiots try to mimic a "grass roots" movement. As they try to destroy capitalism they don't understand it's the only economy that can support their wet-dream of socialism.
I mean really, does anyone believe a Liberal, Progressive or any of the buffoons in the OWS can ever run a Fortune 500 or Forbes 2,000 corporation? This is nonsense from its very core. Their obvious and dysfunctional existence and dependence on capitalism to prop up their failed socialist agenda is typical of their hypocrisy. Who will support their failing entitlements and social programs if not capitalism? Michael Moore? Bill Maher? Barrack Obama? None of these buffoons have ever had or created a job in their life. As they hide behind the wealth they take from the useful idiots they are revered by the same.
Their delusion is only surpassed by their hypocrisy.
Liberals, so easy.
I love when people reiterate words spoken by me only a few posts earlier. But what is exceptionally funny, is when they include items not mentioned by myself. I care nothing about the OWS movement. And to be quite frank, if you want an omelette, you have to crack some eggs. The tea party was easily molded to fit the drone republican mentality, and therefore, you were shut up, and swept under the rug easily. OWS is not. It has no leader, it can not be infiltrated, and will not be molded to fir a form and brushed aside. Tea Party accomplished nothing besides conformity to broken and failed ideas. I implore all to look at the mentioned statement by one Mr. Reagan about closing tax loopholes on big business. What is funny is how you will most likely (if you have not already - I don't know your age) be collecting from the same programs - Medicare and SSI. We can all huff and puff, and pretend to be the big bad wolf on the interwebs, and we don't need no stinkin' gubbment handouts or entitlements. But you will be one of the first in line when you're defecating in your adult diapers, and can't afford private insurance at that age, and collecting your SSI, because no one is going to hire your old arse. Grass roots??? The Tea Party was hijacked by the same idiots they were speaking out against, common politicians.
I’d take socialism over FASCISM any day of the week. Funny and ironic, the right is associated with RED. That’s what Italy calls 1919-1921, the RED YEARS. Mussolini and the Fascists took advantage of the situation by allying with industrial businesses and attacking workers and peasants in the name of preserving order and internal peace in Italy. Communism, another “RED”… Am I the only one who sees a pattern???
Actually, for anyone paying attention. The last time these "tea party-esque" ideas surged and flourished was during the great depression era. AND they were born during WWI. The psychology of people is so simple, and primitive, it is… almost disturbing their predictability. In a time of great need, the people put their faith and trust in one thing, government. And it is at those times of especial economic hardship, they develop a strong sense of ethnocentric nationalism, and often tend to go so far as wield religion as weapon, instead of a way to guide their lives. They become totalitarian. Pack mentality. Huddle behind one common denominator, and that is their country. And it is ALSO at these times, fascism and totalitarianism flourishes as they are children of conservatism. And it is always exploited to further the private gains and agendas of the leadership. This is basic psychology, and in psychology there are patterns, these patterns are also called “profiles”. The profile of fascism and communism matches TO THE “T” the RIGHT WING!
I agree with you. The one older lady who described him reaching for her genitals and telling him to stop was totally believable. As a Republican he certainly won't be able to capture the hearts of Liberal voters everywhere by stating that it depends on what the definition of is, is. It does pale however to the vision of the old, white haired, wrinkled Leader of the Free World with a beer gut kicking back in the Oval Office, getting head from his 22 year old intern, whilst smoking a cigar that was freshly dipped in her crotch.
So it appears the Tea Partiers remain a misguided lot. Many of them are well-meaning but they don't seem to understand how the American economic system works. They want to support half-baked economic ideas that don't help out the middle class at all. Their take on the Bill of Rights suits themselves but not anyone who could presently be classified as a minority.
When will they get that it is all about one thing: making the U.S. a strong, progressive society that can compete in the global environment. God, guns and flag-waving are completely beside the point. Worse than that, these Tea Partiers are doing a lot of damage with their stubborn adherence to wrong-headed notions of how best to solve our nation's pressing issues.
Whats hilarious all you libs so fired up at such a small percentage of the politics. The Dems demonize them to draw you attention away from themselves. Libs sit there running the tea party to the ground and defending OWS(who is costing the nation much much more). Then OWS files for tax exemption the very thing they are supposedly fighting against. Try leading by example. To all libs where do you rights end and mine begin?
As the Occupy Taxpayers Wallets protesters show their true violent colors - we see the irony that people who want more Gov't rules and regulations are unwilling to obey the law themselves. (Mirrors their idea to tax everyone but themselves more.)
Compare that to the TEA Party that got all required permits and had no violence or arrests.
I guess there is something about people that start their protest with the Pledge of Allegiance, and ask the Gov't to follow the US Constitution that makes them non-violent. That thing is honor.
There is no honor in the "Occupiers".
Throwing rocks at police. Defying basic laws such as no camping in downtown parks, public urination, and smashing store windows.
If you or I did those things, it would be directly to jail, do not pass go.
It's time to let these criminals get to see how much fun the Gov't is. Let them get the regulation of THEIR behavior.
Throwing a rock a police officer is a felony.
It's time for them to get a little dose of reality.
We need look no further than Europe to see the failed Progressive Agenda.
In Europe:
No/tiny Military
High taxes
Even higher taxes on the rich
Massive regulations
Massive handouts
Gov't healthcare
And Europe is near collapse because of it. The "best" economy, Germany, is at or near ZERO percent growth.
The all have massive debt. They all cannot compete with emerging markets.
They tried the Liberal/Progressive/Democrat/Socialist playbook. AND IT FAILED.
How many times has a lefty told you that "We should be more like Europe..."?
Not an american in the bunch. Complete corporate sponsored b.s. from the beginning. Would not know honor if staring them straight in the face. Phony to the core. GOP is so lost it is criminal.
There are some basic historical facts that the right must ignore in order to support their ideology. The first is that unrestricted capitalism has always been an unstoppable force for the oppression of the lower classes. You can look at 18th and 19th Century England (and France, but moreso England) for proof, but, closer to home, you can look very closely at the robber baron era that lead up to and ended in the Great Depression. That is the ideal that the right wing holds on to with their beliefs in laissez faire business and deregulation, but it is a matter of historical fact that unregulated business has never been a positive thing.
The problem is that right wingers have their heads buried too far into their own... sand that they do not recognized the difference between necessary regulation and state owned communism. Socialism is not the far antithesis to capitalism, but a method of finding a reasonable point in between. Some programs must be governmentally held or regulated so that certain standards can be preserved. For example, there is a current case in Pennsylvania of privately run juvenile detention facilities where all those involved are now going to jail for the lack of due process, proper facilities and several other charges. Another, very simple example is the local Police force. They are (or should be) a socialized program run by the government, as are your local Fire Department. These are good socialized agencies. And that's not to say that private companies *can't* do well. I'd argue that the NTTA in Texas has done a good job building some very nice roads in the DFW area. Of course, you pay a fee to drive on them... On the other hand, for a very simple understanding of the danger of what happens when one company grows out of control, you can look at Microsoft who own the market share of operating softward (I said own, not own some portion, but own... everything else is rinky dink in comparison, proliferation wise). MS isn't really an evil corporation, but they can simply buy their competition, as they have done several times over, and, as a society, we are more or less at their whim in regards to price, usage, and service. There is no "viable" alternative (no, Mac people, your opinion about the newest OS client is not applicable).
The point is that socialism, capitalism, and regulation all have an important part to play in providing proper business incentive (capitalism) but also controlling the temptation to cut corners, outsource work forces to cheap overseas labor, and price fix (regulation), and maintaining certain acceptable standards of social order/life (socialism). If you are patently against any one of these, then you are a part of the problem.
Current conservatives like to look back at the 50s or 80s as the standards for their ideals, but both of these are mistakes. The boom of the 1950's was largely due to a mixture of regulation standards put in place by a left wing government in response to the Great Depression and the fact that our largest competitors in many foreign markets all just had their entire industrial complex obliterated in WWII. It's easy to flourish when your competitor is all but dead. Also, the religious fervor of the 50's was a response to the unrestricted, un-American, anti-Communist witch hunt that was McCarthyism, and anyone who is proud of that really has no idea what their rights are under the Constitution. The 1980s more or less speak for themselves. It was a decade of utter clueless-ness that began the long downward spiral to the crashes of 1987, 2000, and 2008. If you even begin to look at the pattern of economics following both regulation and deregulation, the results of each become clear. It's finding the road down the middle that fixes things.
And, regardless of what you think of OWS, there are two important points that are brought up by the entire issue. The first is that corporations, though various methods, but not the least of which is campaign finance more or less own the elected officials of the country as well as the un-elected, such as the Cabinet and, apparently now even, the Supreme Court (have a look at Justice Thomas' wife). Any attempt to regulate or make headway towards the support of the middle-class is stifled headlong by an endless stream of money, lobbyists, and corporate agendas.
The other is the First Amendment. I don't care if you hate everything that the OWS protesters argue, but they have the right of assembly. Period. It's as simple as that. You can argue that it applies only to public land and I'd argue that public land almost doesn't exist in the modern city anymore, as most of it has been given away to corporations. Regardless, there is no Constitutional restriction on the right of peaceful assembly and the police actions that have been taken against them are not only un-Constitutional, but they are downright traitorous. The brutality is uncalled for in any circumstance. Two American veterans have been injured to the point of surgery through documented cases of police attack when they were *clearly doing nothing to provoke assault." The state of TN tried to issue a royal proclamation limiting the right to free assembly to rich people with pre-approval from the state (requring approval and insurance for protests). Thankfully a judge was smart enough to put the kibosh on that.
For those of you that attack OWS, regardless of what you think of their goals, they are out there every day challenging someone to take one of the very first rights that are guaranteed to you under the Constitution and you attack them? Mind-boggling. Oh, and if your argument was about things like rape, vandalism, and other awful acts committed by OWS protesters, you need to get your source from something other than Fox News. You do realize that the reason that there is no Fox News Canada is because there is a law in Canada that a "News" channel cannot knowingly present falsehoods right? They can't go there because they wouldn't be able to lie.
There are two things to start to get things on track that need to be on everyone's agenda:
1. Repeal NAFTA and any other foreign free trade agreement.
2. Campaign Finance Reform
L2Pcontrash
Hmmmmm,
OK, I'll bite. Show me a single nation geographically and with the population our size (300+ million) that has flourished under socialism?
You can't. And don't even try the typical Liberal sophomoric response of the Scandinavian nations who's populations don’t exceed 10 million (the size of Michigan) as your poster child. By the way, a great percentage of their economies are based on the energy industry, which of course in your Liberal delusion is the scourge of capitalism, right? Your coveted egalitarianism has never succeeded in any society unless it was ruled under a dictatorship. The equality was evenly distributed between the Bourgeoisie and the Proletariat, wasn't it?
ROTFLMAO!!!!
Surely your indoctrination can't be this complete, can it? Nothing that occurred during the Depression in any way resembled the TEA Party's Core Values. In fact it was the antithesis of it. But I'm sure you conveniently forget the pre- and post- effects of the Revolution of 1937, don't you? Of course you do, as it was the most destructive event that our Federal Constitutional Republic suffered. But then again, the Liberal mind is still entrenched in the belief that we are a Democracy. Even the warnings of Jefferson and Madison as they extolled the "excesses of democracy" and the "Tyranny-By-Majority" don't diminish your inability to grasp the difference between a form of government and the type of government. Therein lies your confusion.
But as I stated before, your support of Obama's despotism in rejecting that our Constitution is a Charter of Negative Liberties explains it quite accurately. Therein lies your delusion.
I think your support of socialism would look good next to the Acropolis. If not I hear the French are hiring tour guides for the Eiffel Tower.
Leiya, You must be the world's greatest optimist. What a great post in the middle of all this garbage!!
Wilberta, Very good question. The reason we don't see any faces in the Tea Party that look like Herman Cain is because they are all white.
A few posted (before they were collapsed) that Cain was just the Teapublicans' attempt to convince everyone they are not racists. That is patently obvious. Pick someone who has no chance whatsoever of being POTUS (I mean, come on. The guy's a loose cannon--but funny!) Then support whomever the last man standing happens to be.
What worries me is we don't see many people of color in the OWS movement, either.........probably because they assume they will be arrested for PWB (protesting while black or brown) the same way they are all over the country for DWB (which, of course, is driving while black or brown).
Lol.... you do realize that there are only 2 countries with a population 300+ million other than the US... right? China and India.
You're asking for an impossible answer, then declaring victory. Pretty pathetic way to debate, if you ask me.
The closest "successful" country by your standards might be Japan at 127m or maybe Germany at 80m....
JustConcerned - JustRemember the OWS people have the same # of votes as the Tea Party people, 1 each. If the OWS movement has done nothing else, it has energized young people to get involved with policitcs, and contrary to what you may think, the majority of young people vote Democrat. So go ROTF with that!.
Full Disclosure: Not a Tea Partier or OWS'er. 25-35yr old white male. Upper middle class income, voting Democrat all the way, including today.
Hopefully the panthers wont be there to stop ya.
Shuklack
Why? If your coveted socialist ideology is so wonderful why isn't it consuming the nations of the world? Once again, because it cannot be sustained. You see the results of it clearly as the EU collapses under the weight of its entitlements, social programs and corruption. Their refusal for Draconian austerity measures are the same limp-wristed response the Liberals here are clinging to protect their Progressive failures.
Do you actually believe anny of the PIIGGS nations will actually survive. Papandreou and now Berlusconi resign as their socialist states fail. As 60% of our budget is consumed by entitlements and social programs, how can we not be far behind?
My declaration is accurate. Your refusal to acknowledge it is what is pathetic.
JustConcerned - A major reason the EU is collapsing is because their governments are either trying on their own, or being forced by the other EU members, to drastically cut spending during a time when growth is greatly needed. Just as I am sure you want the US to continue doing. Spending cuts are needed, but we must grow the economy and stimulate spending first or we will go the same route as Greece, Italy, etc etc.
JasonFinPhilly24
NO!!!!!
Spending is what got us and the EU into the mess we are in today.
To grow the economy we must create commerce. Domestic exportable manufacturing commerce. These industries have fled our nation because of irrational trade agreements, criminal progressive taxation of both individuals and corporations, constricting regulations and destructive union interference.
No economy based on consumption and the service sector has ever created the wealth, prosperity and standard of living we are accustomed to. In 1960 53% of our economy was based on exportable manufacturing industries, today it is 9%.
How will we ever bring new revenue into our Treasury and wallets from abroad? This is the only way we can recover our economy and dig out of this mountain of debt that our uncontrolled spending has created for the past 70 years.
JustConcerned....I'm always curious to know how, exactly, you or any other neo-con extremist would govern this country if YOU were to, by some miracle, become our next president and you had both chambers of Congress and the SCOTUS in your back pocket!
Don't be shy....let us all hear the wisdom of your policies! Start with your views on what will replace Social Security and Medicare for the fastest growing sector of our society, the elderly. Your views on how to bring the middle class back from the brink of extinction would be great, also. And the poor and unemployed....how do you propose they get well-paying jobs with the pittance they have?
I see all these people (you included) who bash ideas from the "other side", yet no ideas of your own to choose from are presented. Believe me....if you make your case, I'll switch my views back to the right. Lord knows, the cons need every person's vote who's currently a moderate or "on-the-fence" to even come close to winning next November!
"Obama's Despotism"
Ha?
Obama is a horribly sad failure as a President so far, I have to agree. His mistake was not taking advantage of the Congress at a time when the Democrats controlled it. His mistake is being beholden to the same interests that both the Republicans and the Democrats are tied to (corporate money). But, explain to everyone, how you can be a despot when you can't actually get anything done? Despotism, along with tyranny, monarchy, dictatorship and any other form of rule centered around a single figure, is actually a very efficient, dynamic form of government. Proclamation is often enough to move things. Democracy and it's forms (republic, of course), is often represented by stagnant government mired in ignorant squabbling between competing interests.
If anything, Obama's government is one of the most "democratic," we've seen in a long time. A little despotism might actually accomplish something, for good or ill. Frankly, I'd rather see something accomplished than watch us continue to stagnate into irrelevance.
JustConcerned, you, sir, need to change your debate style. Less obnoxious and unfounded rhetoric and more fact and evaluation. Your last attempt at an argument was patently absurd, in that you called for a fact that did not exist only because the limitation was, of course, pre-set into non-existence (300+ million population countries are rather few to begin with). If I were to ask you to name a single country with a population of 1+ billion democratic republic with unrestricted capitalism with a healthy middle class, could you do so? Of course not. You cannot declare yourself "teh winn4r!1!11one!!" with an unreasonable argument.
Regardless, the issue really isn't about big government or small government. If you believe that, you need to learn to look beyond talking points. We've already tried both in the United States and so far we've failed miserably at both (Articles of Confederation, pre-Civil War "States Rights" Federalism - smaller governments; current government - big government). The issue isn't size <ahem>, it's rather about whether the government has the interests of the people at heart, or their own wallets. If the government is being elected (proxy via funding) by corporations, then who do you think the government will support, regardless of who's in it?
The Teatards are destroying the GOP and our Country, Throw the Koch paid bums out. Hope the American people wake up and smell just how rotten they are, Save America and vote them back out.
No they aren't. That's a fallacy. Tea baggers are all over the map chasing here and there, willy-nilly for someone to carry their mantle. Cain is a flash in the pan paying lip service to Tea baggers.
And further more calling all Tea Baggers racist is a fallacy too. But there are no doubt some who are.
Alarien
I wonder if you're as cavalier, sir, with your admonishment of the massive influence unions have had on our government for the past 50 years? If you deny this criminal influence the rest of your post is simply irrelevant.
As an aside.
If a socialist society is so perfect why hasn't China, Russia, India and any other nation for that matter created the wealth, prosperity and standard of living our demonic capitalist system has attempted to create?
I say "attempted" because a true capitalist system, or free-market, hasn't existed in our country for nearly 100 years and it still creaed the greatest creditor nation and economy known to man until the intrusions of Progressivism began to erode it.
Alarien #1.51, That's the "Despotism of the new Congress, they failed the American people with all time high Filibusters, Gridlock & "NO" Compromise's. Their doing a good job trying to destroy our President.
"OK, I'll bite. Show me a single nation geographically and with the population our size (300+ million) that has flourished under socialism?"
The Chinese are flourishing, if consider that they own most of our debt and have a favorable trade balance o us. They are socialist. Actually, they have a mix of socialism and capitalism that suits them. They havve trade policy that favors their exports. They invest in emerging technologies. That is what all first world nations have done in the last century. It is strangethat we want to go farther right than we were during the red scare.
PatrioticAmerican, it's not even a "despotism of a new Congress." It's not "despotism" at ALL. That's the point of my post. Despotism would actually do something. Our government currently cannot do ANYTHING. Right now it's the "mire of the corporate plutocracy."
JustConcerned, why would I bother to deny Union influence on the government? I'm less interested in Union influence on the government than I am on the Union influence on the work product. Unfortunately, Unions were a requirement at a time when regulation was practically non-existent. Even the most tolerant, benign, and generally "good company owners" could get away with some really horrific things in regards to their workers (google the words "Carnegie Steel, Pinkterton, and Pittsburgh."). The creation of unions was a necessary response. Unfortunately it's true that in some unions, trades, and locations, the Unions are just as stagnating and destructive a force as the corporations. Certainly not all, but certainly not every corporation is evil either. Regulation is the proper way to make both issue irrelevent. Right now, though, the pendulum has swung so far in favor of the corporations, that I have give the unions my current support.
You say: "I say "attempted" because a true capitalist system, or free-market, hasn't existed in our country for nearly 100 years and it still creaed the greatest creditor nation and economy known to man until the intrusions of Progressivism began to erode"
It was also the worst time in the history of the country to be a working American. You do realize that don't you, or are you so focused on wealth creation at the upper level that you fail to understand that the working class American around the turn of the 19th-20th Century lived in squallor and worked in a job that was likely to kill him or her?
Capitalism is greedy and evil, that's what MAKES IT WORK. This was documented a very long time ago by Alexis de Toqueville. It was an issue brought up by Thomas More, centuries ago, in Utopia in pointing out that without greed, there is no incentive. Capitalism is greedy, but so are people and that's why it's a necessary form of economy. However, giving capitalism free rein has never produced positive results for the people. Sure, it makes some awesomely rich large corporations, but if you believe that's a good thing, then you must also believe in the many times over proven lie that is "trickle down economics." History stands against you. Capitalism is necessary, but so is regulation.
what?3106699 - Liberals are people who think issues through; actually believe in our country and it's people no matter what their color, religion, sexual orientation, sex, etc.; who believe in the Constitution - all of it (not just what they pick and choose); who may or may not be religious but know that being a specific religion does not make anyone better than anyone else and knows that religion does not belong in politics; etc. If you could think rationally and clearly you would understand that but, of course, that is asking too much of a Tea Partier.
Faith Taylor ..didnt think it was pathetic when her tea baggers ..stormed town hall meetings and shouted down any one in opposition to them ..or when they rode around breaking democrat office windows ..or when there leaders said if we dont win at the ballot box we still have our second amendment rights .. didnt think it was pathetic when the tea baggers carried effiges of our President haveing Obama look like a witch doctor .. but I guess it is pathetic that people would protest peacefully on wall street .or are people like Faith just pathetic
how about the Lenn Gapinsky heres a guy in the wrong suit he should be wearing a brown shirt and holding inquisitions .. heres a guy that in a vote for public office would vote for Fascist Hitler over liberal Jesus every time .. he would be afraid that a bleeding heart liberal like Jesus would honor thy father and Mother when they are on SS and Medicare .or he might feed the hungry or heal the sick or clothe the naked .. lenn a real patriot my A-s .. you cant hate your country and call yourself a patriot.. hes not even a christian may be he should read the bible in the light of day and see what it really says
Herman Cain is a human slug. Nobody is going to call the tea baggers racist for following him, just total idiots!
@Andy blue
Actually very few blacks were forced to fight for the confederacy. Think about it. Why would you give a group of 65,000 enslaved blacks guns, put them in the army, and then make them fight so they could stay enslaved? You didn't. The risk of an uprising was to great. The confederate army didn't even allows blacks to fight until 1865 when the war was all but over. They asked black slaves to fight on the condition that they and their families would be given freedom. Unfortunatley for them they passed that resolution a little to late.
I've been reading most of the above. (Not all, 'cause some of it makes me sick.)
I support OWS and the 99% movement.
I've been to OWS protests and have seen first-hand the race/color/age/nationality/etc. of the people there. You're wrong if you think it's only white "kids" who are part of the movement -- someone above said, "probably because they assume they will be arrested for PWB (protesting while black or brown.)" Must be from a white-people-only place.
In cities, it's a rainbow of colors, nationalities, incomes, ages.........
17 hours gone by and no reply to my request for a plan of action from JustConcerned on how HE'D run the country as President with a right-wing Congress and SCOTUS....just as I thought.
The GOP/TP braintrust (Boehner, McConnell, Cantor, Ryan, etc.), with the mentorship of Grover Norquist and the financial backing of the Koch brothers, have spent all of their time trying to trash the ideas put forth by Obama and the progressives in Congress, but have not put forth any comprehensive plan of their own that would get this country back on the road to recovery. All we hear is "cut gov't. spending" and "reduce or eliminate gov't. funding of entitlement programs"....but due to that preposterous pledge that many Republican congresspeople signed (in blood, apparently) that their Dalai Lama, Grover Norquist, demanded they sign that pledged under no circumstances would they vote for legislation that had any manner of tax increases (especially for those making over a quarter mil per year). They somehow seem to think that they can create jobs AND eliminate the national debt just by budget cost cutting alone!!
Am I the only one here who finds this kind if thinking ludicrous and dangerous!!??
Devil's Advocate-784471,
No you're not the only one "who finds this kind if thinking ludicrous and dangerous!!?".... But please never compare the TEA party/Noquist to the most reverend Dalai Lama again.
IMO you don't have enough knowledge to make the "comparison." (The Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader, NOT a political dictator.)
@ Boris and Devils Advocate 78....
You both make valid observations in my opinion and lol yes I score one for Boris, though
I think tongue in cheek, but still very clever Boris. I am referring to the comparison of The Dalai Lama with the human flotsam that tries to pass themselves off as representing the America people, and even a large segment of the moderate right finally see this (the current system of non-representation)
will not work. I refer to my republicans friends, golfing men's club here in Palm Springs, that are alarmed at the course the country has taken as a society of countrymen and women. I share their concerns, though I am a 110% independent for all my life from the moment I could vote and did vote. I have always been (in California called non-partisan) an independent. Now my Republican friends
unlike these zombies and minions of the 1% are as I willing to pay more in taxes to the 39% for the good of the country. Also, yes the cheating we have been involved in the giant loop hole of deferring taxers via IRS code section 1031 on stocks and bonds and when selling off paying a capital gains tax of 15%
we are...well tax avoidance unlike tax evasion is not a crime..."guilty" to the max. but they took away our accelerated depreciation and curbed our NOL beloved tax deductions for interest paid on short and long term personal debt - hey we work the system the Reagan revolution screwed us via the TRA and
subsequent amendments’. Only the most radical worshipper of money for their own ego trip these human waste by products’ must get some form of sublimated sexual gratification from watching more than half, fellow citizens of the population scramble to survive. Those that overtly represent big business and constantly promote the interest of the 1% are there for you to see and I too –who they are. Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and Ryan come to mind along with others and I do not exclude Nelson and other Democrats in Name Only (DINO). The question was asked after The Constitution was passed by a reporter of one of the signers: sir what form of government do we have, the answer was "We have a Representative Republic, now let's see if you can keep it"...we lost it. It was said and I have the quote of FDR that he stated the elements of big business have controlled the direction since the last truly independent president, I believe he had many faults but not controlled by the likes of the Koch Bros. and the interests and special interests they represent although together are stated to be the most wealthy of the wealthy they are only the most vocal and pubic face for the 1%. Alarien states fact after fact and those that try to rebut the obvious look as drones only shoveling more miss-information to discredit this posters educated statements.
@Alarien and the many posts of this poster I have not seen before rather read –
This poster I have read most of the long but well written “an easy read” but if you do not even know what a Plutocracy is and the mechanism to gain, keep and promote their collective interests, such as the tax give away at the diminution of a strong society then please just look up the meanings and not just attack the poster and not address the propositions without knowing the basic meanings. We are under attack from what is in many ways our own monarchy our own form of Royalty and their proxies on capitol hill. This poster, I have not read every word I will when time permits, I see has posted much “matter of fact” material and rebutted those flimsy attacks on the poster and not the propositions evidenced by the open brazen promotion of the 1% and ignorance and dismissal of the needs of nearly 300,000,000 three hundred million Americans. Please read the posts of Alarien I have read the most objective statements of factual, no sensationalism, posts of relative to so many of the dribble that Alarien knocks down. Here a little of a promotion and I hope inspiration for Americans as the Syrians die, so many I admire these people at this time more than any other people on earth....what is the body count today as they try to take back their country? You want inspiration? I see on my local American Syrian merchants "dollar store" lap top real time deadly protests for Assad to leave...I am in awe of their courage don't even think you or I measure up to them lol don't bugger your own mind and think you are their equal because you are not.
Of course, he has to log onto the "real free press" to see what are rulers prohibit the mediums from showing us no we get American Idol and other trash to lull us into deep sleep. Why does he have to go outside our national media to watch in real time the clash of Syrian citizens braving death for a better life and we get Herman and Willard not to mention the muti-Millionaires preach against the American people such as the extremely wealthy disseminators of massive miss-information, lies and slurs as Limbaugh, O'Riely, Coulter and "Good as Gold" Beck the real face of the culture wars to distract you from the fleecing of your money by the special interest - what a grand charade.
Alarien has eloquently stated many of my own views without needless discouragements of the disciples of mindless Capitalism. Alarien correctly points out that Capitalism is only a means, an effective means when not corrupted my for example Monopolies of markets (as energy and medical services only two examples), and many other tenets of "True Capitalism" which we have turned this system on its head and this is not Capitalism as it should be. I believe Alarien posted that Capitalism does prescribe or set forth a plan to establish a fair and just society that this was to left to the kindness in mens heats and would follow the dictates of Jesus as we are predominantly a Christian nation with a multitude of different faiths in our country. This concept to assemble and make law through the legislative process has been totally corrupted I see it in my own Republican friends loss of faith in "The System". My father a life long old school Republican does not accept Medi-Care even though he paid all his working years for this benefit. He earns, even in total retirement, over 100,000 a year in various forms of investment, pension income and pays for his own health insurance he is a strong believer in means testing and feels he would be taking from those that truly need it and he does not so keep his money and promotes the means testing for all forms of "entitlements". My father a role model a true patriot in these terms and a great admirier of President Dwight Eisenhower, me too.
"People are running about following their little tracks - I am one of them. But we've all got to stop just following our own little mouse trail. People can do anything "
To Alarien, Boris and Devil's Advocate among many others thank you for your work, I feel especially thankful to Alarien this poster has eloquently stated many of my own views without needless dispargements of the disciples of mindless Capitalism. Alarien correctly points out that Capitalism is only a means of the "creation of markets and the effective means of competition and meetinf demands of said markets), an effective means when not corrupted my for example by Monopolies of markets, and many other tenets of "True Capitalism" which we have turned this system on its head and this is not Capitalism as it should be as I understand Adam Smith a great friend of a mentor to me David Hume. I believe Alarien posted that Capitalism does not prescribe or set forth a plan to establish a fair and just society that this was to left to the kindness in men's hearts and would follow the dictates of Jesus as we are predominantly a Christian nation with a multitude of different faiths in our country. This concept to assemble and make law through the legislative process a just and fair society has been totally corrupted . I see it in my own Republican friends loss of faith in "The System". Ok this is a wrap -
@Iamatthebeach - I read your post and yes lots of bull being thrown about today lol - I will meet you at the beach Hermosa or Venice my hangouts and get away from it all - yes a day at the beach some of my most favorite days if we do not have an alert to stay out of the water due to contamination you know toxic and raw sewage over runs that we experience on the shores of some the worlds most beautiful coast lines.
@People Power - My friends of all political persuasions are all in agreement on a few items that affect us all. Put the talking points and scapegoating of farm workers aside for the moment, we all agree our money we paid all of our working years we are yes "Entitled to our MONEY" the MediCare we paid all our lives into if we need it we are "Entitled" to receive without the ever increasing hidden tax on this paid for benefit. I do not need it so keep my money and use it for others, I have my own insurance and follow my fathers model and so keep it and use it wisely to help those without not line the pockets of politicians and their corporate sponsors.
We, Americans of all political views hold fast on these two basic paid for rights to our own money we are all OWS promoters in our own way on this topic. Yes I am ok so I can afford to be independent of any boss I am the boss and I am set but I live in a country where much is wasted at the top. I am for cutting back on the pension of the Federal workforce and that includes police other necessary agencies. For example, my brother earns his money as an educator and tells me his retirement will approximate to about 80% of his final years salary of close to $80 thousand per year plus his other investments in tax free bonds from the most wealthy counties and or states in the Union, plus his investment in the tax free (I believe) income from Liberty Bonds that have a nice return when you factor in "tax free income". But, as police and firemen to get at or above 80% of their yearly income in pension income for the rest of their lives is outrageous unless paid out of their own union pension funds and not a penny from the state and they are subject to a means test for any application for government money.
People united can take back our country though we have to battle this Shaira court and nearly all of Congress and I mean both houses, our government has been "hi-jacked" but we UNITED people en masse can act as one on these few basic foundations of our retirement plans but we must put political agendas aside for the moment and fight for our own money - who would think they could attack the middle class as this and think they could get away with this larceny?
People power - I see the rainbow of that which is America being beaten down fighting for our own benefits and I am all for them...the OWS. This disparity in financial wealth between those at the top, the 1% to 10% and the rest of the country approaching 300,000,000 (three hundred million of the 99%) Americans is not sustainable as we see a real recovery of the economy which will only happen if we start know to plan for a stable economy in year 2020 at the earliest and you can plan on the status quo if the Koch Bros. and their proxies have it their way that "economic recovery" will never happen this is the "New America" and matters will only get worse not better if we continue along this path. I was going to say the kids get it but I see very elderly Americans in the OWS photos including those on today's MSNBC page.
OK - People are the last and best hope for the country we all must unite on these most basic rights to live a moderate life of retirement, I don't need a yacht tax loop hole lol, and raise the capital gains tax to that of the regular income. There is no job creation via this loop hole, real incentives and relaxation and waivers of the costly endeavor to raise capital for small business's up to say 1 million (one million) and even tax credits for these small businesses could be a great way to really start to create jobs. I have read statistically the greatest amount of jobs are from start up small businesses and the start-up costs are on average between $150k to $200K we can do this in a sense tomorrow but this is not even on the agenda no dong away with the EPA and watering down even further The Consumer Protection Agency are typical of what is that the top of the agenda of the real governing powers that RULE America and let us not forget the number one goal from the first days in office.
A proclamation in the face of the greatest six month total job loss in recorded American history, was asnd still is to make President Obama a one term president and thus we have wasted all this time as Obama has to make trade-offs just to extend uneployment insurance for jobs that do not exist. I speak of the six months preceding President Obamas taking the oath of office, remember 750,000 reported job losses of the last months of Bush's presidency? Add up the total for the last six months and you are reading record job losses never experienced by the American people. Then the proposal to save money by cutting off of unemployment assistance because you could not find a job that did not exist? Bush has the lowest real job creation of any president since Hoover back in the 1920's and the mess he left for FDR. The only other president that comes close is his father a one term president - Oh my goodness.
People Power of all the American people - We can take back our country if we unite - SOLIDARITY -
Finally,
"People are running about following their little tracks - I am one of them. But we've all got to stop just following our own little mouse trail. People can do anything" – Yes it will take all of us in America and even all around the world, be idealistic and take action even if only a donation direct in food or tents just do something make yourself be heard you get one life make it a good and fight the good fight - end of my little sermon.

FDR was referring to president Andrew Jackson as the last truly independent president not beholding to and promoting the interests of special interests and creating national monopolies and of course we know what followed "The Gilded Age". The sweat shops and short life span of the American industrial worker Alarien has described. These guys, the new "Robber Barons" I think would make the old "Robber Barons" blush with the overt larceny they would not believe it possible that the American people would allow this (they would of course be wrong) - I don't either but it is true not one person indicted and Trillions at risk and hundreds of Billions paid to the "Too Big To Fail" entities. Hundreds of millions are missing no one knows where the money went - I am talking Iraq.
Who OK'ed the dollar for dollar tax-payer backed insurance investments for Goldman Sachs and the others had to take a percentage on the dollar? .....just ask yourself WHY?
I could not correct typos in my last post the NewsVine would not respond -
Have a Good Day
They'll make something up....what else can they do?
"They" meaning the majority who does not feel the need to shove tea bags down their pants and blame the Mexicans, Blacks, Gay, unwed mothers, poor, elderly and unions for their own "short comings" ?
Believe me... No one needs to make up anything about the tea party. They have become their own worst enemy when bused around by the Koch brothers.
AndyBlue-67....., you are a liar! There is not one documented instance of what you claim to be happening at Tea Party rallies. Lies are what people resort to when they cannot win an argument on its merits. In the mean time, there are 100's of documented reports of rioting, rapes, racism, general filthy behavior, even murder associated with the OWS crowd.
What did I lie about? Be specific please.
You just perfectly described the credo of Fox News and todays' Republican party.
"there are 100's of documented reports of rioting, rapes, racism, general filthy behavior, even murder associated with the OWS crowd."............ give us sources for your rightwing propaganda lies, and not the faux propaganda network.
hardtostarboard There are thousands of reports of abuse torture rape and murder committed by American Soldiers resulting in over 440 being prosecuted in Military court.
US Military? I thought we were talking about the Tea Party? This may come as a shock to you but they are not one in the same.
In regard to your claim to racism and violence at Tea Party events, the media would be all over it, but alas no story here, just good people who are sick and tired of big, ineffective, overbearing government. All like minded are welcome to be part of the movement.
I get it andy,
You are allowed to make broad sweeping generalizations about organizations that you don't agree with, however, anyone that makes an accusation about an organization you do agree with, it's only a few bad apples.
You are ignoring facts simply because you don't agree with what they say.
Civil War Gazette (CWG) turned to a couple leading Civil War historians to address the question, how many blacks actually took up arms and fought for the South?
CWG asked Professor and Civil War historian-author Steven Woodworth about the number of blacks who fought for the Confederacy:
How many times has a lefty told you that "We should be more like Europe..."?
hardtostarboard#2.2: I don't know whether you naturally are, but what you posted in #2.2 is the work of an unmitigated liar.
AndyBlue - You are right about the 100's of misdeeds by individual military soldiers, it's sad but true that liberals that don't respect the military and the uniform and military code ethics of US soldiers are allowed to serve our country with such disrespect but that's just the nature of liberals. For proof I offer that no upper ranking officer in these wars has been accused just low level soldiers, why because the liberals that serve do not have the fortitude to say in long enough to be promoted up.
AndyBlue-674311
Nothing. It's a fact that the teabaggers were waving around vile racist signs depicting President Obama as an African witch doctor. It's a fact that a black member of Congress was spat upon and the civil rights hero John Lewis was called the "N" word by a bagger while walking on the steps of the Capitol building. It's also a fact that some of them got arrested inside the Capitol for blocking the corridors to Nancy Pelosi's office. Most of the extreme hate happened around the passage of the Affordable Care Act when the baggers were outraged by the nonexistent "death panels" that major Republicans like Sen. Charles Grassley lied about being part of the legislation. They're not all racists, but there are lots of them in the "movement".
Ryan,
There is no word called Liberal/Progressive/Democrat/Socialist. You block them together because you do not really understand the differences between the terms. It is the same as if a liberal said plutocrat/conservative/right-wing/imperialist/elitist/feudal/republican. It is a way to make Democrats seem extremely left, usually used by those wishing to present their extremely right-wing views as moderate.
primate guy -
Look monkey man - you are all on the same leftist side.
You have already just about ruined Europe, and are now trying to get the US to follow them off the cliff.
So argue about the differences between a liberal and a democrat - but we all know you are going the same direction.
It's a fact that a black member of Congress was spat upon and the civil rights hero John Lewis was called the "N" word by a bagger while walking on the steps of the Capitol building.
Houston!, You have a problem! Do you realize there has never been so much as 1 frame of video supporting this myth? Which is truly remarkable in this day in age where everything and anything is captured by someone. somewhere with a recording device. Now I'm sure at some TP event somewhere someone may have engaged in what you people like to call "civil disobedience", but that would pale in comparison to the almost daily acts of violence reported at various OWS gatherings across the country. I dare say if you combined the misbehavior at every single TP event ever held, it would be less than at 1 single OWS gathering of misfits, oddballs, weirdos, drug addicts, chronic victim mentality, dregs of society. What a bunch of losers!
hardtostarboard,
Yes, and there is also not "so much as 1 frame of video supporting this myth" when it comes to the GOP's/"right"'s/TEA party's claims about the OWS/99% movement.
Ignorance begets ignorance. Or, what goes around comes around.
Just a Reminder -
I remember a girl of about 100 lbs with eye glasses to see having her head stomped on it was called at the time, a few months ago, "The Head Stomp" the assault from a six foot plus goon knocking this girl to the pavement and more than once applies stomps or standing on her head. Despicable cowardly act he should he horse whipped.
The grabbing of a microphone from a person attempting to voice an opinion in one of the so-called "town hall meetings".
The shout down of a congress person attempting to explain some legislation shouted off stage he just walked away a futile act to act under the law, the first amendment, as a congress person.
The bullying of someone in a wheel chair by these ever so peaceful Tea Baggers
The carrying of openly displayed firearms to some of these town hall, I should say attempted town hall meetings, no matter the excuse and lies an attempt to terrorize and intimidate the populace.
The carrying of signs depicting the president as some African Shaman in the full regalia of such a person
The usual stuff as a watermelon with president Obama's face in the middle
President Obama as Hitler and among monkeys and or peeling a banana along side an ape
I am sure if I thought any-longer, the congress lady shot in the head from Arizona?
I am sure I could find other acts of real violence as these and more if I cared to do research but the recored is clear and in response the Democratic process was thwarted and suspended, I refer to the town hall meetings they were deemed to disruptive because of the violent actions of the Tea-Baggers.These Tea-Baggers talk a gran talk but not able to walk the walk they are bullies with no respect for The Constitution.
Now we can pretend as say they are not racist and it just so happens there is one or two or maybe Herman Cain look alike out there, I know there is. But lets be adults with mental powers and see these are tokens and not representative at all of any significant portion of non white people. BTW the largest recipients of government assistance is the "white" (whatever that means) category according to census numbers as reported on our various national media.
Our poorest states are in essence well-fare states and yes white people live in these states. But falling into race talk is just what the puppeteers want to divert the attention of our common goals and lower ourselves into playing the race card. Let us leave race out of this though I read posts of how pure and non-violent these Tea-Baggers are and the words do not align with the facts as I seen them live on cable. No lets not fall into some faux-naif characterized and a common trait of children.
Certainly different pictures than the "educated", lazy-a$$ed punk kids and thugs roaming the streets now days..... saying give me - give me - give me and getting arrested.
So I guess you aren't likely to want to be included in their "99%" club !
The 'occupiers' don't speak for me either.
Do the baggers speak for you?
Rick that would be the same as asking does Fox news speak for you.
They are the same people repeating that the viewer is supposed to determine what is fact and what is fiction.
Talk about low standards in news reporting.
What a fitting name for someone so open minded. Both parties have interchangeable parts and you would know that if you didn't have your head...... Andy and yet they're still number one in the ratings
Certainly not the Democrap Colostomy Baggers from OWS.
Yeah...and Rachel Madcow is the standard for low-brow reporting...
wlee, you do realize, that the ratings argument is nothing more than an admission to the world that conservatives do nothing but stay glued to Fox day in and day out so they can be told what to think right? Well no, I guess you didn't think that one through. That makes you the targeted view over at Fox. Hence the very reason the ratings at Fox are so high. Not hard to accomplish when you have so many people such as yourself dim enough to to stay glued to a television all day waiting to be told what to think.
Sally, wow calling names already how liberal of you. You do realize that people of other political views watch Fox just as they watch CNN, and MSNBC otherwise how would you know what they report. Actually I'm at work unlike you waiting for your welfare check how many kids do you have now 7 or 8? Just because your mothers birth control didn't work doesn't mean you should stop taking it. Have a pleasant day sweetheart.
Sometimes. And sometimes the OWS crowd have a point. Labeling one group or the other with generalized, hateful stereotypes adds nothing but to polarize this country just that little bit more.
How can anyone be against fiscal responsibility and fairness in trade? Those are basic tenants of each group, but you wouldn't know it to read the narrow-minded comments on these pages. "OWS protesters are a bunch of gimme freeloaders." "Teabaggers want to throw grandma under the bus." Both statements are ridiculous. This isn't a sporting event where you cheer for your team. United we stand, divided we fall.
hardtostarboard
You are in denial. There are lots of videos showing teabaggers waving around vile racist signs, like the one depicting President Obama as an African witch doctor. They also spat on a black member of Congress and called the civil rights hero John Lewis the "N" word on the steps of the Capitol building. Why MSNBC decides to treat the baggers with such reverence is beyond me. They're the same old John Birch Society nutjobs that they've been for the past 60 years. The only difference is that now they like to dress up in powdered wigs and silk stockings and pretend they have something to do with the nation's founders, most of whom would be appalled and embarrassed by their ignorance.
The Teatards are destroying the GOP and our Country, throw the Koch paid bums out. Hope the American people wake up and smell how rotten the teatards are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The teabaggers are a bunch of dumb backward hicks just like their cronies the " birthers ". You remember those crazy " birthers " don't you - LOL.
I always thought they were one and the same.
When you tell lies like that do you really expect anyone to be swayed by your post?
Stirring up hatred of a group reminds me of the Nazi's stirring up hatred of the Jews in the general population, leading to mass murder. Deep in your hate filled heart, I wonder if you don't fantasize about the same fate for Tea Party members.
Every time I see a post like yours I'm more convinced liberals are closet fascists.
p111's post is a perfect example of Godwin's Law; especially since it's a particularly irrelevant Nazi reference.
p111
For the record, Liberals are generally out of the closet.
I have not heard of 5 million Tea Party members going missing, but I have heard that neo-nazis and holocaust deniers tend to support the tea party.
Primate guy,
You are lying about neo-nazis and holocaust deniers. Completely and totally lying. If liars like yourself would stop posting falshoods about the Tea Party and the others that are posting that the OWS movement is a bunch of hippies would stop posting, then the rational posters could actually have a decent discussion. Until then divisive people like yourself will cause divisive people on the other side and all rationality will be lost.
I could see teabaggers supporting Nazis, since they both are from the right wing side of the political spectrum.
And yet you have no proof.
My post was a response to a comparison between liberals and Nazis. I do not think it is divisive to rein in some of the hyperbole.
J. T.Ready did speak at a Tea Party function in Arizona in 2009, and it was not in the dunk tank. American Third Position has expressed the opinion that Tea Perty rallies are good recruiting spots. That does not mean that the Tea Party are all racist, or even the majority are. It is simply silly to express a persecution complex that equates killing millions of people with the inherent messiness of the democratic process.
sorry, I cant live in the past, we need to move forward, times are changing, new generation with new ideas that will set the tone for all us are merging forth, the Earth is changing as well. We need to look at that reality and not the past, the past was good, we need it as a jumping off point but we certainly cant stay there and be happy. not I.
what we really need is ZERO population growth .. the chinese had it almost right with there 1 couple 1 child law we need the same here and all over the world
This is obama's movement (the OWS), it was made to distract and get support and ignore his failure.
Yeah, right. Thousands of people around the world have nothing better to do than try to make Obama look good.
Yep.
So..um....why are you talking about it?
Did MSNBC look at any Tea Baggers under 50? Are there any Tea Baggers under 50?
Can you imagine the Tea Party orchestrating a long term sit-in like Occupy? RVs lined up for miles. In bed by 7. Wandering vendors selling a selection of hair dye, arthritris cream and depends.
...and the whole time the medicare card carrying socialists complain about government spending..lmao
And all the while not urinating in public trashing the area ripping off other protesters breaking windows burning trash cans selling drugs and being totally disorganized and disoriented
Waving their loaded guns, racial signs and flipping the finger. Also saying how much they love jesus. LMAO
Do you love Jesus IMHO? Remember Jesus loves the down trodden.
wwee sounds like hes been spending too much time over at faux propaganda nation or maybe his rushed limbaughotomy is kicking in.
Fina, don't listen to Rush. You don't like it when someone responds to attacks by Liberals what a surprise. What have I said that isn't true?
WTF?????
I don't have a clue about what any of you is talking about....
Sorry: I do have a clue what you're talking about, but I don't have a clue to how any of it matters.
There's a reason this is called a "thread." You don't get that, or what?
They really are a bunch of ticked off white rednecks aren't they? They woke up one day and a muslim, non citizen, socialist, oh ok, black man was president and everything they say or do simply reinforces the notion that they represent the worst of America.
Yep why must we revisit the people egged on by Fox news.
As they brag about having 2.2 Million viewers all I can say is isn't it great that 338 Million Americans don't watch Fox News.
Most of you on here are unpleasant people.
Rick,
You are a sad hateful person, with nothing but excuse's for ideas. I am a proud Tea Party member and hope you find a way to vent your hate other than on those who don't vote like you.
You should be ashamed of the behavior of the OWS folks. I believe they have every right to gather and voice thier thoughts, but Rick you can't support thier disregard for authority and lack of respect they have shown.
2.2 mill in comparison to other networks Einstein. By that rational more viewers do not watch liberal outlets.
You'r purdy quicke!!
Rick. Notice the tea partiers usually attack you personally when you are talking about a group.
Its what they are known for when faced with reality.
Rick, are you sure your not talking about OWS those model citizens asking that all Jews be thrown out of the country, can you say Nazi's. Andy get a life
I'm just wondering how many of the OWS group trashing, vandalizing were paid for by the Koch Bros. or some Multi-National Corp. or should I say person. The FBI and CIA have also been known to foment violence in a group just so they could shut them down. I remember the Anti-Vietnam Protesters who now that history is written, were 100% right to protests the Governments lies, the corporations complicity, and to try and get our children (at the time me) home.
Andy - Generally someone with such a vehement dislike for a group or individual is speaking from personal experience. "It's what they are known for when faced with reality" I've been reading YOUR reality I would have to ask who would buy into it. Error is a parasite, and everything you have stated is erroneous so where does that put you? BUT.... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for the sake of discussion. If everything you say is true, then what is it to you? If you are so sure about your convictions, what difference does it make what other people think? Are you not able to find some peace and comfort in your own beliefs?
Matt this is not about what other people "think"
This is about easily manipulated people injecting their craziness into our laws that will effect all of us.
Prosecuting women who get abortions?
Making sure healthcare is NOT for all.
Putting religion in our public schools?
Attacking public workers pay in an effort to bring down the pay scale for both the public and private sector.
Pushing more war and endless occupations.
Making sure gays and lesbians can not have the same rights as others?
Screaming that our president is a Kenyan Muslim socialist promoting white slavery.
and then there is their pro torture nuttiness that has destroyed our reputation around the world.
These people are Nuts and America wont stand for their disgusting loony agenda any longer.
Andy- I want you to know that I do appreciate your candor ok? But, I have to suggest that your anger is misguided. The examples that you use above do exist but they are not indicative of the Tea Party. Now, I will go so far as to say that there may be indivividuals within the Tea Party that would fit the description of your examples, but they would soon be discouraged because it is not part of the agenda. The Tea Party in it's simplest form is for smaller government. By that I mean simplifying the tax code and making it equitable for all, cutting back on the layers upon layers of departments and the inherent bureauocracy and the costs involved with its inefficiency to name a couple points. There is a very large contingent within the group who are over 50. They are the sons and daughters whose parents lived through the depression and served in WWII. They were raised with values both morally and economically. I have been active in the Tea Party for a number of years, and I just don't see the evidence of the above examples, and that's what I have to go on. I don't give a damn about Fox or any other so-called news outlet. They are part of the problem. What I do have is the interaction one on one, and that's how I learn. I don't agree with much of the OWS, but I do owe myself a visit to get a closer look and form a more concrete point of view.
Gee, I can't imagine why more conservatives flock to a tlevision than liberals can you? 2.2 million people who need to be told what to think via television. Truely sad.
Yeah Matt. " examples that you use above do exist but they are not indicative of the Tea Party"
Bull.... they are the entirety of the Tea party.
They follow the extreme ramblings and take their marching orders from Fox news.
In their bizarre world they back all republican candidates under the flawed logic that they are economically conservative which is PROVEN FALSE.
Who increased the debt?
Reagan 189%
Bush Sr 55%
Clinton 37%
Bush Jr 115%
Obama 16%
No amount of rambling will change that.
Well then we will have to disagree, and if my responses are "rambling" then you really have no one to talk to about your point of view because everyone else will be guilty of the same thing. The Tea Party did not glom onto the Republican party, it was the other way around for political expedience.
No Matt you misunderstand again...
I said; They follow the extreme ramblings and take their marching orders from Fox news.
The "no amount of rambling will change that is towards the Fox message of half truths and outright lies to manipulate the tea party.
Andy - Again, I have no use for Fox news. I think they are part of the problem as I said. All news outlets are going to run with shock and disunification; that's what sells. How much do you take media "news" to heart? I have to ask because any person of average intelligence would take it all with a grain of salt. That includes you, me and anyone else who fits the shoe.
Matt, you're wasting your time. No voice of reason will get through a die hard Liberal. Whatever happened to real Democrats?
Wlee- LOL My guess would have to be right after Jimmy Carter. I know I'm wasting my time but sometimes you hope against hope that someone would actually be looking long enough to miss it. Thanks!
I live in Indiana and have heard plenty of these local tea party people talk (as well as write in to local newspapers)...most of them are racists...heaven forbid if any Hispanics (who they see as all illegal) or African Americans move out of the more urban NW areas and into their cozy little white enclaves...I'm really surprised they don't wear the white sheets anymore...
Someone already beat you to your point, I heard all OWS protesters want to deport all Jews that must be true too .
How come the Tea party just started worring about govt. spending when Obama was elected? That is what you should ask yourself. It is kinda funny that 3 out of the 4 interviewed for this column were retired folks that are sucking on the teet of medicare and ssi. All the while shouting to reduce spending.
All of these pictures have something funny about them. The first guy is dressed in a costume for no reason, a'hoy matey! The woman looks like a female Evil Knievel and the last guy well, I don't know a single person who doesn't get a good laugh out of ridiculing outdated woodpaneled walls. I'll lay off his moustache.
Scary!
yep... very scary
Tea party is a bunch of small minded people who wish to be noticed. They will go to any length, attempt to cover up any dirty deed, and tell all lies (badly of course) necessary, to accomplish any modicum of recognition.
How can you take anyone serious who dresses like George Washington, or poses for a pix with a shotgun?
Truly mentally unbalanced
Boy, this a tired thread from the leftward leaning side of then fence - If I don't like your idea, I'll just call you stupid and mentally unbalanced. It has been my experience watching these trails is that leftists are some truly mean people - they aggressively insult any who differ with their opinion. So what if a guy wears a George Washington suit for a picture - does that make him mentally unbalanced? And to have a picture taken with a shotgun? I know hundreds of folks, both Dems and Repubs who hunt and like to shoot and had their picture taken with a shotgun (including me). Mentally unbalanced? To resort to typical leftist behavior, I will say that you are an ignorant person who doesn't know his backside from hole in the ground. What? Anger, indignation? After you sling your hatred on these, who cares if that bothers you. The strength of our great nation is weakened by your ilk.
Liberals don't mind if you have an opinion, as long as it is the same as theirs.
Bill Buckley
As if those same types of comments aren't made by the right about Occupy Wall Street people. Your self righteous and insecure. I don't care if conservatives make fun of hippies camped out in a park. They're fair game. I certainly enjoyed listening to interviews with high occupy wall street people on Howard Sterns show that pokes fun at them. It's comedy, just like those weirdos in the pics above.
Reality Check-1104333 #10.2: Bill Buckley was an ass backward fool.
Mac Forrester
It sounds as though you 'worked' your way through college without any help from anyone. I commend you if that's the case, but that means that you're now on SS and Medicare, because that hasn't been possible for the last 30+ years. This nonsense has got to stop; when will Wall St. realize that their excesses are fostering deep discontent among the masses (99%). Actually, I predicted this over 40 years ago, anarchy is being fed by Wall St.....age 69 and a 99%er
When I look at the Tea Party and the Occupy movements, the similarity I see is that they're both essentially bottom vs top ideas. They both feel that powerful or wealthy people are taking too many liberties with this country and the people of this country. The primary difference- if you can call it that- is that the Tea Party views the government as the entity taking more than they need to, and the Occupiers view corporate interests as the ones taking more. In reality there is no difference between the government and big business, because they both feed off of and support one another with little regard to us little numbers running around at their feet.
Well said. It's nice to see objectivity from time to time.
Yes, Finially some sense in this forum.
Big government and big business both are the problem. An added bonus is that they reinforce each other.
The hole in your reasoning is glaring enough to prove the OWS point. Big businesses are the one's with the money to pay the politicians. Hence OWS is, as you imply. going after the correct target.
really mac? these "greedy, horrible" corporations/banks are "greedy" and "horrible" b/c the govt allows them to be. the govt is the correct target.
KiKi-2629687: I will yield your point. Though I continue to agree with the logic of the OWS strategy. Since big business has most of the wealth, big business has the most to lose. Additionally, much of big business would be in serious trouble (likely criminal) if exposed to even a minimal degree. Toward our own well being, and that of the country as a whole, we would all do well to push for constitutional amendments to overrule the SCOTUS ruling that corporations are people and can contribute as much money to a political party as they wish, and an amendment on term limits for every elected political office from the lowest municipal and county office through the Presidency. Costs for running for office should be drawn from collected tax funds paid by the people. Our system is a mess of its own evolvement at present. Example is; a person is elected to office, and that very day enemies organize to defeat him/her next election by obstructing duties etc. The elected then organizes, in effort to thwart that enemy, and consequently, spends much of the term distracted from the peoples business. Term limits, and legally blocked access to external money, power, and influence can contain this. Regards
Funny how MessNBC doesn't publish the freakshow occupy losers. I guess folks dressed as Che and Mao would turn some folks off...
Kids, kids stop bickering, this is some members of the indiana tea party revisited, nothing to see here, move on. Slow news day.
BTW GET OUT AND VOTE!
MNov, voted best commenter today. Thanks.
That photo of Faith Jones in her make up made me giggle.
Can't you just hear her proclaiming "I'm a Christian".
Get a life.
Wlee: Your asylum tenders are looking for you.
You hurt my feelings Mac, you're just so witty.
Wlee-950886: Ahh shucks "wlee", I just can't help it. A little shot ah scotch, A quick glance in the mirror. Hell, I'm ready.
I remember the "White Slavery" signs. They can say they support Cain, but I guarantee you that Cain will not get the GOP nomination.
Funny how these old white folks, enjoying the subsidisation their rural lifestyles receive, are complaining about government.
Sure, they are enjoying their rural lifestyle. I bet you that they worked for it themselves, though. Noone gave it to them, like the OWS groupers are demanding.
@sean - surely you can understand that some idiot (a plant?) carrying an offensive sign doesn't represent an entire movement any more than one drag-addicted rapist represents all the OWS folks. Right?
Fat hows that welfare check doing you.
I remember during the Tea Party movement before the mid-term elections there were a number of signs along the lines of "Hands off my medicare." This was during the health care fiasco.
mint,
Subsidized rural lifestyles are free handouts. There is a rather generous farm subsidy in this country that is part of the immigration problem. American corn in Mexico is cheaper than Mexicans growing corn in Mexico. So they come here for work! Meanwhile farmers get free money for simply doing their job. Last time I checked, I paid taxes for doing my job and didn't get a free handout.
But it isn't just farmers. There's the Rural Business-Cooperative Service, the Rural Utilities Service, the Rural Housing Service. These cost $3B+/year. There's the federal telephone subsidy that benefits rural households most and costs $8B/year, the rural airport subsidy, not to mention federal transportation dollars that are used to build and maintain roads used by very few people. It's been a long known fact that rural areas get more in taxes than they pay in for things like stop signs. And finally, rural communities get more money from the federal government for welfare, medicare, medicaid, social security, and disability.
I'm sure rural folks work real hard, but simply living in rural areas means you're benefiting from subsidies. Many households may not have electricity, roads, or telephone service were it not for these subsidies. And without this infrastructure in place, many would probably not choose a rural lifestyle in the first place.
Real Packer Fan,
Here are more than just one:
Nice cut & paste job....Redstate.com?
Trintiy,
http://biggovernment.com/jjmnolte/2011/10/28/occupywallstreet-the-rap-sheet-so-far/
Prove it wrong.
I'll bet the civil rights movement looked much the same too. Just goes to show you Tea Partiers weren't really all that motivated to change anything.
Pragmatic,
You can not compare the two. You just want to give credit to their revolution. You want a fight then stand up and say, quit hiding behind obama and his agenda. You want what is not yours, some come and take it. Tired of your group thug mentality and coward philosophy.
MRWSR.
That you care soooooo much to provide this information should be a wake-up call.
I am awake and I am one of the 100s of millions of the 99%.
Glad for Boris, not sure of what your point is. But seems like you aprove of the list.
Please, understand I do want the OWS to protest. Just knock off the lawlessness and disrespect for those trying to make a living around them.
BIG GOMINT .com hehehehehehhe andrew breibert... the master at editing vedios to suit his propaganda. the man that showed palm trees at the wisconsin protests. the man getting sued over his other videos. the man has no integrty. and you people take his propaganda as fact, thats what is scary.
dzaffina,
Prove one on those wrong. Just one.
Still getting used to posting on these things.
I wrote a pretty good email that got lost. About how it's supposed to be every other generation that changes things... except the "boomerangs" (i.e. Boomers' kids/your parents) got lost in the whole 9-11 scare sh*t storm.
Anyway... two things from my (Boomer) generation:
"There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware....
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down"
(Buffalo Springfield)
"Tin soldiers and Nixon coming.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming":
four dead in Ohio."
Sorry -- "radio" is no longer the same....
Like you, I am one of the 99%.
Stay the course!
Boomers are a humongously HUGE generation of people who know how to change things. TRUST THEM/US!
MrWSR. Prove one of them right. Any one of them, other than arrested. Suspected. Alleged. According to Rush Limbaugh. Bull s^*t1. Bull s^*t again. You eating this stuff?
You (MRWSR.)replied:
"Please, understand I do want the OWS to protest." Then you posted lots of "stuff": enough to fool me.
OMG, Whoops. Really, my bad.
You said, "Glad for Boris, not sure of what your point is. But seems like you aprove [sic] of the list."
Then, "Please, understand I do want the OWS to protest. Just knock off the lawlessness and disrespect [sic] for those trying to make a living around them."
WHAT??? "...disrespect for those trying to make a living around them."
Whoa -- I made a HUGE mistake. Yeah, approve of the list. (Where'd you steal it from?) The whole point of protest is to make it UNCOMFORTABLE for those who won't take a stand.
I got your number, two-face!
If/when you post again, I won't be fooled.
I guess I REALLY misunderstood your post.
Note to self--check out EVERY poster's credentials.
Can't wait till you bring your little movement to my door and try to make me uncomfortable for your cause. Can't wait, you coward.
Don't know how you could mistake what I said. They have every right to protest and I its heathy for the country. But can't go with the anarchy, disregard of hardworking people just trying to make a living. That is selfish and an act of a coward. Kills the movement and it has no more merit.
Faces of a corporate sponsored grass roots movement!
I looked at the same pictures you did. I even read the article. I could tell the woman in her 80's is being used by corporate interests.HA! You should be pissedoffperson, you got rooked on your education.
Listen to all the leftists howl. Thank you for writing a really journalistic article. Since it sent these loons into such a foaming rant you know it was a good fair article.
And your sources are?
What a bunch of wack jobs! smh
Wow. Your screen name says it all: "Ignore everything I say because I'm a juvenile butthead!"
The people in this article are all pretty hilarious. I'm so afraid that people like this would want to return this country to the backward thinking of yesteryear. It's so laughable to hear them say that Ronald Reagan was a great President. Looks like grandpa's memory has gone a little shaky in old age. And of course they just don't mention George H.W. Bush at all. Talk about the worst of the worst. At least his son had b*lls, even if he was an idiot.
Halloween is over, but no one told shotgun Shelia or George Washington's classmate from grade school.
Your kids must be real proud, keep in touch with yourself.
Tea Party=Ideology that wants to create a class of elite wealthy people at the expense of the middle class and poor. Simple as that.
They don't want to "create," they want to "maintain."
And you want to maintain those who go no further then middle school.
Robert - "at the expense of the middle class and the poor?" Jeeez... I haven't made a dime off of either. Can't be too expensive. You are that simple.
When a company pays its top executives exorbitant salaries while their lower level employees can't even pay their rent then those executives are getting wealthy at the expense of the poor. Simple enough concept for you?
I doubt very much is Lenn Gapinsk teaches a class on the Constitution. He may teach a class. He may claim that it is on the Constitution, but what he teaches is his personal ideology wrapped up in the flag, claiming that anything that pops into his head is actually what the "founders" intended.
The local tea party group 'teaches' a class on the constitution in which they teach people that inalienable rights come from God and without God we couldn't have inalienable rights. First off, they seem to miss the point that the principle feature of inalienable rights is that they are inalienable. The rest is poetic flourish. But they also don't stop to consider that since slaves didn't have inalienable rights, they must not come from God, but from the mutual consent of their fellow citizens.
Do you know the man? I don't either but just by your post I know he has more integrity than you do.
If these "college graduates" took courses taught by socialist teachers, (who have never produced anything other than CO2 and waste), something other than art appreciation and under water basket weaving, they possibly could find a job. The cost of education is escalating at 2-3 times inflation, and yet, no complaints about cost. Talk about greedy, check the payroll of your college and the thins they teach!! Most should be electives, not majors.
I was waiting for you to say education is a liberal conspiracy.
Maybe you should try some.
This was a good portrayal of the average teabagger.
I guess you libs forget it was your own holding up signs trying to destory the Tea Party.
