Electricians protest low pay on day of demonstrations in London

Construction workers, electricians, plumbers and engineers staged a demonstration in London on Wednesday in an escalating row over pay and skills that is set to lead to a strike ballot, the Press Association reported.

There were minor skirmishes between some of the workers and police but no arrests were made, according to a report in The Daily Telegraph.

Some 10,000 people from across Britain are expected to join a separate demonstration against the government's education policies on Wednesday, the biggest protest since the capital and other English cities suffered four days of rioting in August, according to the Associated Press.
