Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords serves Thanksgiving meal to troops in Arizona

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., and her husband, retired Capt. Mark Kelly, meet both active and retired airmen after serving a Thanksgiving meal to troops at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz., on Nov. 24.

The AP reports:

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords helped serve a Thanksgiving meal to service members and retirees at a military base in her hometown of Tucson, Ariz.

Giffords arrived in the dining hall at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base at midday Thursday wearing a ball cap and an apron with her nickname of "Gabby" sewn on the front. She was accompanied by her retired astronaut husband, Mark Kelly, who also donned an apron.

Giffords used only her left hand as she served, a sign that physical damage remains from the injuries she suffered when she was shot in January.

Kelly supported her from her left side as she worked the turkey station on the serving line. He served ham.

Afterward, she mingled with service members, exchanging pleasantries and mostly one word greetings and responses.

She did tell Airman 1st Class Millie Gray, of Kansas City, Mo., "Happy Thanksgiving, thank you for your service." Read the full story.

It's no joke, as a Vietnam Vet, I can respect her character, her determination to recover, her dedication to public life and her decency. She deserves respect, not pity.

If we can take something good from what happened it would be that she is not as despised as the rest of Congress. Turning up to show "solidarity" with the bipartisan Congress fraudsters after yet another bipartisan failure was a mistake.

EDD::: From where did you come to that conclusion. Just because YOU are a joke? The airmen were enjoying their visit and Gabby and Mark were enjoying helping out and getting to meet the guys. You can tell that just by looking at the people. Well, normal people can-- that leaves you out.

It was a tragedy what happened; however, those who died on that day won't have anymore Thanksgivings.

We should mourn those who died, but celebrate those who survived. She deserves our celebration.

Her absence has left an obvious dent. Gabby (and the rest of congress) are every bit as useful to America now as before the life changing incident. God speed her full recovery and rightful return to the Jewish Congress.

These are the people we need in Washington, not that Boneheads, and Cantors, not the Mitch O'Connells, or any of the self serving and corporate serving, stock manipulating, inside trading jerks that number on both sides of the aisle! I forgot those who put party affiliation before this nation and it's people.

MOT::: I ate a turkey lunch TWO days in a row. It didn't have any adverse effect on me. I did have to take a nap the second day, but that was because I'm not used to so much activity on a weekend.

Life can be spooky sometimes. It's the contradictions. Like Heinrich Himmler who was a mousy faced ex-school teacher, hardly the face that belonged to such a monster. Then we have Bush, with a frat-boy demeanor, yet a cold blooded killer.

Gabby has such a sweet face and she is an inspiration to others that have gone thru or are going thru medical struggles of their own. She is basically untouchable (so why should I even bother?), but people you need to be reminded that Gabby has been a high official in the ADL, an organization that spies on Americans for a foreign nation and that promotes policies that are a benefit to a foreign nation - never mind the cost to her supposed own country. She has voted in support of war crimes, warmongering and burning the flesh off of children.

Might she become a better person from her personal suffering? Let us pray she does.

J.P::: And from who at Faux Nooz did you get that information? What do you call your savior George W. Bush? He got us into two wars to satisfy his ego and those wars have cost thousands of lives of Americans, cost thousands of lives of our guys who have suffered injuries, cost thousands of lives of children who have had their flesh burned off or have had their lives cut short.

May YOU become a better person-- but I have my doubts that will happen.

So many nasty comments on a wonderful article. I am a conservative and I have great admiration for Ms. Giffords and Capt. Kelly. They are true Patriots, decent people and dedicated to the service of our country. We need to look past our partisan beliefs and praise good deeds by whoever performs them. God bless you both always. Those full of hate need to do some deep soul searching and ask your God by whatever name you call him for forgiveness.

MSNBStupid, I did not say we have our own individual God, I said to ask him for forgiveness by whatever name you call him. Is reading comprehension a weakness of yours or just being nasty in general?

Thank you to Gabrielle, her husband, her family and the support network that has helped nurse her. The courage and the fortitude displayed by all encourages me that honor and service still can be done by individuals from the lowest servant level to that of a congresswoman.

May we all aspire to that courage and sacrifice in our lives when thinking of our fellow citizens.
