Michelle Obama speaks with daughter Sasha as they receive the White House Christmas tree.

Michelle Obama, daughters Malia and Sasha, and family dog Bo have witnessed the arrival of a 19-foot balsam fir from Wisconsin as the official White House Christmas tree.

The fir came from Tom and Sue Schroeder's Forevergreens farm near Neshkoro, Wis. It's the first time one of the Schroeder's trees has made it to the White House.

The tree was hauled up the White House driveway on Friday by horse-drawn carriage, where the Obamas inspected it and then gave it a thumbs-up.

The fir is destined for the Blue Room, where it will serve as the centerpiece of White House Christmas decorations.

Thanks for nothing with this wonderful economy we have to contend with. But Merry Xmas to YOU and your family anyways.

How ironic that when it's the Occupy protests, the flippant conservative response is 'get a job', 'no one else is responsible for you' and 'stop whining'; when it's the President, it's 'where's my job', 'where's my handout', etc.

President Obama didn't break the economy, and overall, while things aren't great, they ARE a lot better now than they were at the beginning of 2009. My holiday wish for my conservative countrymen is a little consistency, and a little more honesty, please.

Yes, in public, the Obamas call it a Holiday tree, rather than it's proper name, "Christmastree". While in private they call it the "Eid Al-Fit-Tree." There's a snide joke in that statement--and for the dim, please refer to Wikipedia Muslim Holiday for a better explanation.

Our Country needs to remove that muslim pig excrement from the White House now ,it does not deserve a Christmas Tree when the A-Hole will not even mention GOD in any Thanksgiving speech.

When the White House is mentioned now my first thoughts are SCUM, TRASH.

I like the Obamas. They deserve everything they have worked hard for, just as everyone in the country deserves what they work hard for (or not work for)

I'm so glad I'm not a politician. Seems people will hate you just because you can't make their life better. I'm glad I realized that I'm in control of my own life and if I want change, I make my own change. Sitting around waiting for it is not what Obama wanted us to do. I feel bad for all those people that include hate as a part of their lives.

Chris, that was a well thought out post. I wish more people would see things the way you do and realize that they have to have the motivation and will to help themselves. Waiting for others to make their lives better-whether it be republicans, democrats, etc, etc,- will lead to nothing but disappointment. You're right that a politician will always have a bunch of haters.

In yesterday's Presidential radio address and Thanksgiving prayer, President Obama did not thank God even once.

I moved my children to the living room and read to them George Washington's first Thanksgiving Address in 1881, where President Washington gave thanks to God 13 times. I urged my children to remember President Washington's Thanksgiving prayer, and disregard the Thanksgiving prayer of President Obama.

This article about the arrival of a "Christmas" tree at the White House showed a picture of a wagon with a sign saying "Christmas" tree, and the caption under another picture showing Michelle and the Obama girls stating they are welcoming the "Christmas" tree. In this article the tree is not called a "Holiday" tree. I hope this year the Obamas are consistent to this article and call Christmas "Christmas" throughout the season.

God please bless the less fortunate. Thank you dear Lord for the greatest of gifts, the birth of your Son and our Salvation.

There are alot of people with there hands out for the Government to do for us. But we all have to help one another and the non politicans still need to follow and keep the people we have elected in line. This is so they won't fall into the good ole boy routine of Washington. They were elected to do a job for each of us and need to be kept reminded of this. They can't if we all mind our business and make our changes and let the world pass by. We can't keep our heads in the sand and let what is going on in washington go. This Country was founded on GOD and with God. Because of a few we can't even show that we beleive for fear someone will not like it. Where does it end?

I am curious about where the notion that this country was founded on God comes from. I assume that those who say that mean 'Christianity', certainly not the Hebrew God or the God of Islam, only the real true god. I think the guarantee of the separation of Church and State was one of the best ideas of the founders. There have been a lot of folks and a lot of governments messed up pretty bad by religion, imho. Let folks believe as they will, worship as they wish, and pray as they believe. And let that inform their values and their politics. But please, please don't expect me to live and behave according to YOUR beliefs. Let's make America free of religious bigotry...please.

Obama did mention God earlier in the week in a written Thanksgiving Day message:

"As we gather in our communities and in our homes, around the table or near the hearth, we give thanks to each other and to God for the many kindnesses and comforts that grace our lives. Let us pause to recount the simple gifts that sustain us, and resolve to pay them forward in the year to come,"

    source: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/obama-omits-god-thanksgiving-address-riles-critics/story?id=15028644#.TtCq24Isbh4

Everyone knows Obama's personal religious beliefs, in fact, he has taken criticisms in that area as well. Thanksgiving is a holiday when Americans express our thanks and acknowledge our blessings, as Obama did. I find it humorous that the only ones that seem extremely offended are loving 'Christians'.

    Thank You, God Bless You!

Did anyone see the report that said that people who watch Fox news know less than people who don't watch news at all? I see why they did a study on it after reading some of these posts.

@Fights - I watched that video and I think the President is right in not feeling the Bible to be what we need modern politics to follow. I've read the Bible through many times and I would hate to see our country follow many things in it.
Jesus even taught that there is a separation between God and Politics in Mark 12:17.

There were no fir trees at baby Jesus' birth. He did receive presents, but don't most of us on our birthdays?

Jesus also taught us to Love our Neighbor, not hated them and wish them dead because they don't think the same. How unchristian-like you are.

Read your Bibles again and find the true meaning of Christmas, not the greedy I want more presents marketing scam that it has become.

Did you know Christmas was moved to Winter Solstice because they had trouble getting the pagans to worship it. Christians and the churches have been remaking Christmas since almost the time it began.

I am quite ashamed of those of you that preach hate and call yourselves Christians.

@thomasyuma - Barack Obama Sr. was born in Kenya I believe. So many of you keep confusing our President for his father whom he really didn't know. His father and mother separated when he was like 2 years old or something. His father was Muslim, his step-father was Muslim, but he is Christian. You can make up stories about him all you want, but he's shown his birth certificate and that's that. He was born in Hawaii. Please stop listening to rhetoric and learn to look up things from reliable sources before speaking. Thank you.

I don't really care if the President calls it a Christmas tree, or a "holiday tree". The thing that I find most offensive is his arrogant self-righteousness and his apparent lack of concern for those suffering from the economic despair that he has presided over. Obama's single term in office will leave an ignominious legacy as the most polarizing and incompetent president in our nation's history.

You're an idiot. Christmas isn't the only holiday during December. Thousands of people celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc. I'm not offended when anyone says "Happy Holidays" to me because a) they don't know which holiday I celebrate and b) I don't believe in God anyway, therefore I have a level head about such things. Not everyone on Earth is a right wing Christian nutjob that thinks everyone should be just like them. Diversity is what makes our country great, and it's a shame that such a large group of people thinks that it should go away.

You know, Happy Holidays is a "politically correct" term now, but in fact it has been around a very long time. Haven't you heard the old Christmas tune "Happy Holidays"? Best known sung by Steve & Edie. "Happy holidays, happy holidays, the merry bells keep ringing, happy holidays to you.....".

So many people take offense at it, yet, all it used to mean was Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It was a greeting which encompassed the entire Christmas season. It now encompasses Christmas, Hanukkah and others, but so what? What is wrong with being respectful of each other's beliefs?

There are so many mean spirited, ill-mannered, and intolerant people nowadays.

I hope everyone have a good holiday season, which includes Christmas. But doesn't exclude the other holidays of the year. I hope everyone have enough food to eat, a warm place to sleep, and is able to find work if they need it.

No matter the opinions of others, I wish the Obamas a Merry Christmas, because they are Christians. I also LIKE the Obamas, in spite of the opinions of others. They are highly intelligent people, trying to do a good job in all this negatitvity. I don't remember a recent president who has made as much effort to bridge the divide in this country as they have.

To the Republicans out here...shame on all of you for allowing a man such as Norquist to dictate to all of you. ALL of you who consider this normal behavior are sick and traitors to your own country.

Merry Chrsitmas to all who celebrate the holiday as Christians. I am an agnostic, but respect your right to do so.

He's the most divisive president we've had in a long time... sympathizing with the OWS crowd, encouraging the hatred. :(

You know, President Obama is far from perfect - there are a whole host of things that I disagree with him about. But the safety and future of the country is far too important to leave it to the buffoons currently competing in the GOP primary - philanderers, profiteers, opportunists, bigots and idiots literally at every turn. The only Republican candidate with the intelligence, experience and integrity to lead the nation is Jon Hunstman, and of course, he's polling dead last (because in Republican politics, intelligence, experience and integrity are seen as shortcomings, not as assets).

I supported President Obama in 2008 because he was the better choice then, and - unless a genuine miracle occurs - he'll easily be the better choice in 2012.

Just got off the official Whitehouse web site, whitehouse.gov, where Ilooked at last years holiday information and you know what? Those heathens use the "C" work all over the place. Christmas this, Christmas that.... Even had "Christmas tree" on the sign on the wagon. What cads! Why, it must be a plot to overthrow Rush Limbaugh by making him look like a complete moron. OK, making him look like MORE of a complete moron. (Yas, there's sarcasm involved here)

Oh, and Beev, sorry you don't have money for presents or a tree. I take it you're one of the folks who either doesn't have a job or is severely underemployed. In all seriousness, I am sorry about that. No one should go wanting, particularly at this time of year. But you do know your own party says that you're not working because you don't want to, right? What was it a couple of them have said recently? "Get a job"? Seriously. How can you back a party that takes a dump on the economy and then blames the victims?

Happy Holidays to all. The Obama girls are growing up like the lovelies in their parents garden which is the American quilt. I am so very thankful for all our collective blessings and am eternally hopeful for what the future may bring.

May God bless and keep us all,

Mr. Obama has created more of a hatred divide in this Country than anyone before him .... it will take us decades to undo the hatred he has instilled pitting one American against another. But, like you, I do not hate. AND, I do not say "Happy Holidays" for Christmas. I say MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I am a Christian and a liberal.  My father was an Episcopal priest.   So therefore, I was taught to

love thy neighbor as thyself - no matter the religion, ethnicity or race.   For once could we celebrate

the holidays without the constant negative comments about Pres. and Mrs Obama and their

                daughters Malia and Sasha.

Even if the current President is not the someone's choice, can we not have a little respect for the office, and the fact the man is the Commander In Chief and is indeed our President. Don't have to love him, just have a little respect, and leave his family out of it.

Like I said earlier, lots of mean spirited, ill-mannered and intolerant people nowadays.

Right Rose and Valerie, just like the Liberals left Sarah Palin's kids out of it, right? Talk to David Letterman about making sex jokes about Palin's 13 year old daughter. Liberals reap what they sow.

I enjoy seeing photos of our first family enjoying the season and carrying on Whitehouse tradition. They set a fine family example for the nation. Negative and nasty comments are inevitable by the few who prefer to live by hate and bigotry or extremist ideas. The great majority of Americans are proud of the Obama family. Merry Christmas to all.....or not...if that's your preference.

The white house is the people's house. We let presidents occupy it for 4 or 8 years. Why do you have to make this so politcal. I would think any American would be happy to see our house decorated and looking good for the holidays, if you don't like the present occupant you can vote him out, but stop making everything so damn political. Let's hope it's a nice tree.

'Fights" blindly defends the Christian Bible and is unable to offer a defense to Obama's recorded speech that he asks us to view. Obama was correct in all he said on the video, simple as that.

The Sermon on the Mount is simply a fairy tale, no more worthy of respect than anything in Gulliver's Travels. The Christian Bible is full of horror stories that prevent me from having my children read it, in good conscience.

Someone should publish an edited version that leaves out all the killing, torture, threats, cruelty and slaughters. But then it would be a very short book.

A horse drawn carriage? A nice vintage touch borne of the presidential austerity program. Oh wait, there is no such program...austerity is for the peasants.

Naturally, if the President had cut the tree and dragged it there himself you'd accuse him of slumming. It doesn't matter what he does, does it? You'll attack President "Not a White Person" for anything no matter what.

                        And we know why.
