A neighbor takes a peek at a Nissan Pathfinder which crashed and landed in the house belonging to Gloria Sinclair, 74, late on Dec. 8, 2011, near the intersection of West Market Street and Wickliffe Street in Newark. No one was injured, but Ms. Sinclair was home at the time with her daughter and 2 year-old grandson. A few short minutes before the accident, her grandson had left that room, a computer room, which the SUV crashed into.
Well. That's one way to find a parking spot. I hope disgruntled New York City drivers out there - myself included - don't take this as inspiration when circling the block for the hundredth time after a long night of looking for that elusive spot.
According to the Star-Ledger, this scene occurred after a driver lost control of her SUV when driving in Newark, N.J. Fortunately, after landing in the second story of a home, no injuries were reported.
“You thought it was a bomb, maybe it was an explosion downtown,” said Evelyn Sykes, 28, who lives several houses away from the accident scene. “The house shook and the windows were shaking.”
“Of course,” she added after she saw the SUV, “I wasn’t expecting to see that.”
A dark Nissan Pathfinder was deeply embedded inside the room on the second floor of the house, leaving a clean, gaping 10-foot-by-10-foot hole where two windows once were.
Five minutes earlier, Gloria Sinclair’s grandson and daughter had been in the room where the SUV was. Sinclair had been watching television in the next room over when the vehicle struck. Read the full story.
For more images from the scene see the Star-Ledger's photo gallery on the accident.

WHOOPS!
I wonder if they will find her cell phone was being used to twit her latest tweety at nearly exactly the moment her Pathfinder went airborn and found its way in the older women’s computer room?
Whenever you see a vehicle doing something stupid 99% of the time there is a woman driving and she's on her cell phone.
Seriously, it's a fun game - try it out for yourselves
Good thing it wasn't Alec Baldwin playing Words With Freinds. The last thing the onwer of the house wants is to be yelled at.
That's what happens when you trust your GPS too much!
The same sort of thing happened on my street just a couple of houses down from me. The guy went off the street and right through the brick wall of someone's house into their living room. The driver was drunk.

I guess it's all in the interpretation but THIS interpretation states:
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505145_162-40543656/men-vs-women-who-are-safer-drivers/
However, there are exceptions to every rule.
Sorry, I see plenty of men being stupid too!! And driving things like 18 wheelers, construction trucks and such. Stupidity comes in all sizes and both sexes!!
The driver had to have been going pretty dang fast to catch that much air! That is just nuts!
I knew I should have taken that left turn in Albuquerque!
It's a woman
@Mickey - I had the same thing happen near my old apartment building, except it was a Taco Bell. The driver plowed through the tables that were bolted into the concrete on top of going through the wall.
Define "something stupid"--That's What's Up. If "something stupid" would be multitasking or drifting from lane to lane or something that is just a lapse of attentiveness--yes, I imagine that it might well be a female at the wheel more often. But, if by "something stupid" you mean driving while drunk, driving aggressively, speeding and so forth--well, it's a lot more likely to be a male.
The whole "hold my beer and watch this" tends to be a male thing--and, for me, that's the epitome of "stupid," but there you go. It's all in how one defines the term "something stupid."
It's easy to "loose control" when your doing 120mph in a pathfinder in a residential neighborhood.
If you look inside you can see that the pathfinder was still on an upward trajectory and slammed into the ceiling inside the room.
Will Geico cover this?
Sometimes you're just desperate to park and you take the first spot you see.
Recalculating!
Nothing new here, seen it before. Happened once with my next door neighbor. Car was so imbeded into the house, if you looked at it from a side angle, you couldn't tell anything had happened. The driver was high on marijuana and wasn't paying attention.
@SBParrothead; I have that GPS device too.
Parrothead you are Too funny!

Where I live there's an elevated railroad bridge over the road and the view is lovely--I go sit up there to sketch the landscape.
Earlier this summer I was up there drawing and I happened to look down and saw a car driving very slowly and erratically. There was a guy behind the wheel with his iphone on a dash mount and one foot on the gas; the other foot was propped on the dash next to the iphone and he had his 'equipment' out and was giving himself a handjob while driving. I have a strong suspicion he was looking at porn and just couldn't wait till he got home.
I almost fell off the bridge laughing--thank Goodness it's a quiet street not well traveled very early on a Sunday morning. If it had been a little later I would have called the police and reported him.
The driver must have been FLYING (pun intended).
@skepticalVoter Just because some statistics say men are cited more, doesn't mean women are better drivers. It just means men are caught more, or it means the cops let women off the hook more (likely). Stats usually mean something other than what the writer says.
In my experience, and from these posts, when I see someone driving crazy, slow, distracted, swerving into my lane, blocking traffic, drivnig the wrong way, over a curb, into the median, or looking at me thru their winshield with a completely lost look, It is ALWAYS a WOMAN! I drive a LOT, 30K+ a year, this is a VERY familiar topic to me.
Just the other day a *woman* in an SUV swerved into my lane, when I honked cause I had no where to go and was about to be HIT, out comes the finger (Classy!). I just saved us both a trip to the body shop and I get the finger. Next time I see you at the grocer, it's key time! May be I should carve a note.
The next time you see someone driving slow with no traffic and swerving, take a look. It's usually eaither an Old Asian Women, or a Teenage Girl on her Cell Phone (not a man). It is a really fun game. Not at all a rare occasion.
Hopefully this perspective from the opposite sex will encourage more focus while driving, I doubt it, putting makeup on while on the freeway is more important that who you're swerving into. or even the BOOK you are READING WHILE DRIVING! seriously WTF?
I knew it was a woman driver the second I saw the picture.
I knew it was a senior citizen when I saw the picture.
Shall I bring on the stats for you on off-the-wall accidents involving SUVs?
Please do katze.
read more carefully guys it was the house owned by Gloria Sinclair, 74
Yes, another article about this event did mention that the driver was a woman, but...... where did you,
Adam-2011718, come up with the idea that she was a senior citizen??
Are you biased????
At what age does a person become "senior" in your world???
Jus' ask'n, mind you......
I think the term senior citizen is most commonly defined as someone above the age of 65. I don't know if the driver was a senior, I only read to the part that confirmed it was a female driver.
http://www.4autoinsurancequote.org/learning-center/how-gender-can-affect-car-insurance-rates/
Here's some stats for you. You don't have to read the entire thing, just scroll down to the nice bright colorful pie chart. Males account for 73.5% of all accidents while females account for 26.5%. Ask any male between 17-25 about their auto insurance rates; that's the highest risk category around. Why could that be? Hmmmm?
Before you all start the mouth about women drivers, look up a few facts first so you don't wind up looking foolish.
Yeah I'm aware of D.O.T. statistics in general, but I was hoping for statistics specifically detailing crashes involving S.U.V.'s. I wasn't mouthing about women drivers (yet), but the day I see a woman take a pole position in the Le Mans endurance or even so much as place in a top 10 position in any A.C.O. event I'll reconsider my view on women's driving skills.
Carolyn G:
What you're forgetting to show is that of the 73.5% of accidents involving male drivers, 85% of them had a woman in the back seat while driving.
Marshal_JeanBaptisteRochambeau--and, when I see a woman who isn't in the Le Mans endurance race or placing anywhere in any ACO event acting like she is doing one or both out on a stretch of highway, then I will reconsider my opinion of women drivers.
One can, however, frequently find men who aren't in the Le Mans endurance race or placing anywhere in any ACO event acting as if they are, or as if they could, when it is extremely clear that they could not and when they are on a typical highway and not "professional drivers on a closed course." Hence, the tendency of males between the ages of 17-25 to have a higher insurance cost.
Simply because women tend to be risk averse and regard vehicles as a means of getting from Point A to Point B while men tend to regard vehicles as "high performance" toys that they want to prove they can "get the most out of" . . . this does not mean that women are poor drivers. It means that women are sensible drivers, and it means that you have a bizarre method of evaluating typical driving skills on a standard road.
I knew it was a stereotypically bad driver the minute I saw the picture.
Most of the time it's because he's trying to impress a woman, or one of his buddies. Of course, it really results in him looking like a stupid jerk instead.
JXC, I'm sorry, I didn't see that in the stats. Would you mind pointing out where you seen that?
How funny you should mention that, Marshall, this past year, Leena Gade, a female, won the Le Mans. So what were you saying about reconsidering your views on women's driving skill? Here's the link if you care to read for yourself. Take care.
http://carfanaticsforum.com/thread-7000.html
I'm not going to tell you to learn how to read Carolyn, but you should make give the article a quick glance. Another thing I'm very well aware of is Audi's success with it's diesel engineering & technology not just in Le Mans but several other racing events and mass production street vehicles as well. You should stick to the statistics there cupcake.
@carolyn, stats actually show very little, and could imply anything. You don't need to be a bad driver to get into an accident, though it helps. being a good driver doesn't mean you don't get into accidents. the two are actually independant of eachother. though you can make inferences.
I'm sure your 73.5% are only major accidents, because male drivers tend to drive faster. If that figure included accidents a 1/2 a mile per hour, it would be 75% in the Other Direction. Had my car hit in a parking lot last year (not by a man). Also last year, my wife and another woman backed into Each Other in a parking lot, they were both backing out at the same time, into each other. Had a man been involved neither would have hit eachother ;) LOL.
I can think of 10 accidents in the past year involving a female I know. I can't think of any accident that involved any man I know in the past 10 years. I was in only 1 accident my entire life (rolled downhill into someone because the brakes failed). My sister has been in at least 8 accidents, where she did have control of the car (if that's what you can call it).
These stats you show don't match my real world experience. That doesn't mean they are skewed, but, to me, they indicate something different than what you and the publisher represent them as.
Outthere; I haven't been in any accidents in over 24 years (knock on wood) neither has my sister. My sister-in-law was just involved an accident where a man pulled into an intersection without looking. A few male cousins were recently involved in a multi car accident because they were showing off. Last month few friends and I were driving right behind a motorcycle driven by a man, with his girlfriend on the back and he lost control and crashed. They both wound up with serious road rash and he had a broken wrist. So, what does that say? You can't quote facts based on assumptions or on what goes on around in your immediate world.
If you have 50 male and 50 female drivers and 30 males get into accidents and 10 females get into accidents the results would be clear. Nationwide we're talking in the millions so comparing that to your surroundings results in a very narrow assumption.
You also have to consider the fact that the highest insurance risk category are males, 17-25. I didn't make up those quotes, the insurance companies did based on accident statistics. What does that tell you?
LOL... ouch
unfortunately everyone has "a right" to a driver license. when i blantantly get cutoff again by someone on their phone or just stupid... i'll think of this accident
I don't ever remember reading in the Constitution that anyone has a "right" to have a drivers license. It's not a "right", it's a privilege and if you abuse the privilege, it gets taken away.
Having a driver's license is a privilege, not a right. So, if we are fortunate this driver will lose her privilege.
Everyone has the RIGHT to apply for a drivers licence, BUT, that does NOT guarantee that you will get a licence.
There's is no RIGHT to a drivers license. It can be denied or revoked for a variety of reasons.
Actually, a while back when there was talk of keeping illegal residents from getting driver's licenses the ACLU argued and threatened to sue because haveing a driver's license is everyone's right
you peeps need to go back to school.... quotes means obviously the perception. it was sarcasm people. perhaps i have spell that out too
Thank goodness no one was injured!! Out of curiosity, how fast was this person going so as to land in the second floor of the building? Unbelievable!!!
Some folks will do anything to avoid alternate side of the street parking!!!!
well, from my calculations: given the trajectory, weight, 9.8m/s^2 of gravity..... 28 mph... im kidding... too fast.
I'd say she was trying to get the time machine up to 85 mph when the flux capacitor malfunctioned!
That would explain the problem really, as we all know time travel requires a speed of 88 mph.
88 mph...yep, I'm a big fan of those movies and I don't care who knows it...oh, and I drive a Hemi, too (Charger)!
85mph? Task, tsk, you need to watch Back to the Future again.
Im wondering how she was going to produce the 1.21 gigawatts... that thing doesnt look nuclear....
My apologies to all those that replied to my post. It was a foreign car and you know the metric system conversion factors and all that stuff. Of course you need 88 mph to make a time jump. Been quite a while since I've seen one of those movies.
P.C. I drive a 300 SRT8 6.1 liter so I'm all about the Hemi. I do like the Chargers also, especially the new body style. It looks wicked and I like the full length tail lights like they had back in the 70's. MO Power to you.
I have a flux capacitor in my truck... it fails every time I need it.
Moheekeeko, you don't need 1.21 gigawatts or plutonium anymore, you just need a few banana peels, coffee grinds and a can of beer to make it go.
Mayhem strikes again! Real life imitating an advertisement!
My wife loves those commercials. Recalculating!
I see a auto insurance TV commercial. My second thought is just how fast do you have to be going to make a jump like that?
...and, bearing that in mind, HOW exactly could this be and "accident"?
i'd have to say the driver's BIRTH was the REAL accident.
Just how fast, indeed. It's the question of the day. It would have been nice if Natalia Jimenez gave us more details.
How fast? Way too fast. Seriously illegally fast in a residential area.
I cannot figure out how the car jumped the ~5 feet in the air. Did the ground act as a sort of ski-jump?
Seems like it, lots of dirt on the wall and the grass in front of it is torn up.
It is really a "pathfinder"
Yeah, but seems this path turned out to be a dead end.
The GPS is probably saying "You are off the projected route". Recalculating!!!!!!!!!
nissan corp will be blamed for this somehow...
Zigged when she shoulda Zagged...........!
If you pizza when you're supposed to french fry... you're gonna have a bad time.
For the SUV to jump that high into the house, she did a little more than lose control of her vehicle....Speed had to be a factor..
Luckily no one was hurt..But I'd be pretty ticked off!
Marshall, it wnet into a senior's home, not driving, read the article!!!!!!!!!!
I knew it was a NJ driver! Who else would try to cutoff a HOUSE!
that made me laugh
Me 2...LOL
They probably couldn't find any street parking.
I've seen some pretty bad Illinois drivers also! A few years back I had one blow by me on the Indiana toll road in a Honda Thanksgiving weekend on icy roads just before she lost control and put it into the median sideways at 70 mph. Looked like a snow plow. We managed to get her out of the ditch and she took off again. A few miles up the road a state trooper had her pulled over on the side of the road giving her a ticket.
Only in New Jersey? Does sort of give new meaning to the term drive through. boy talk about your unexpected guest.
Guess she was trying to find a new path.
How does this even happen?
How fast would she have to be going to launch into the second story window? I mean, the kind of force behind that would need to be somewhat high with a vehicle like that.
I bet "mayhem" made em do it!!
Recalculating!
Willing to bet she loses her safe driver bonus for this year...And there will be no vanishing deductible either.
Truth be known, the driver had to be speeding and talking on a cell phone or texting. A SUV doesn't leap quite a few feet into the air at 30 mph.
Morons are everywhere, aren't they?
Or the SUV was parked and the house ran into it.
Two story brown stone for sale. Great view! Additional indoor parking.
I hate articles like this because it doesn't explain how the car got to the second story. There is no ramp there, and I doubt the car can "jump" that high.
Actually, it looks like the landscaping/terrain of the front yard WAS the ramp.
Have to consider angle+speed+velocity. Must of been spectacular to view!
Think Dukes of Hazard and that Dixie horn.
Probably texting or talking on the damn phone. That's right. I said it.
Dollars to donuts, you have it right on this one.
With most accidents I would agree, but this one is just too weird. You don't just turn into a building because you are on your phone. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that whomever was driving became unconscious at the wheel when this went down....or just drunk. How did it jump up into the second floor? That's just skill!
Was one of the many prescribed "happy" pills involved??
I'm thinking it wasn't so much a "wrong turn" as a failure to turn. I sort of envision a downhill street that T's into . . . well . . . apparently this house!
hahaha... "Turn left now".... that car had to be moving fast look at the ground in front of the house... it jumped the first story with that hill.
