A kitten stuck in a pipe is freed by firefighters and is now resting in hopes of making a full recovery.

Kitten rescued from pipe predicament in California

A good Samaritan found a kitten, a 2-month-old male, that had somehow wedged itself into a scrap piece of drainage pipe near his business in Mira Loma, Calif., on Saturday.

The man then brought the pipe and meowing cat to the Western Riverside County / City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley, near Riverside, where veterinary technicians first tried to extricate the cat using lubricants. They also sedated the cat to relax him and connected him to a heart monitor.

After more than 30 minutes of trying without success to get the cat out, the team decided it was time to call the fire department for assistance.

Firefighters from CAL Fire's Station 16 used a saw and the Jaws of Life to safely rescue the kitty.

The kitten is resting, and veterinary professionals will continue to monitor his condition.

If he makes a full recovery, he would likely be available for adoption in about one week.
