According to AP:

On Sunday, a team of U.S. weapons experts disposed of some 1,300 pounds (600 kilograms) of ordnance deep in the sand just outside Tripoli.

"Our goal is to help the Libyan people to secure these loose arms," said U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Andrew Shapiro, who was on hand to watch along with the U.S. ambassador.

He said that since September, American experts have disabled around 5,000 shoulder-fired missile launchers — weapons that Western and Libyan officials have expressed concerns about because they pose a threat to civil aviation.

Ha, what a laugh. The goal is to allow American military aircraft to rule the skys unthreatened if the need arises.

The overall is to disarm the people so that the government Obama installs and blesses will not be threatened by armed revolt.

i think both partys are a discrace to this country and both have contributed to the problem. we should be pushing the US not the partys. we probally sold them or give the arms to them when they were fighting the russians. this country tries to buy friends instead of keeping our noses out of their business.

we try to install our way on them and it fails to catch. lets fix the US first then worry about the world next and i am not saying to stick our head in the sand but lets breath and get the ecomney up and running and a honest bunch in the white house first.

Thanks to our own idiocy, there are about 2,000 more out there somewhere and some of them are of top of the line technology. How could we be so lax? Need to know that answer. It's like our loss to Iran of a drone. Why are these special high tech items not accompanied with a very destructive self destruct device triggered by multiple systems including satellite??

If we had a self destruct system integrated in all these weapons, can you imagine the surprise and the unusual places there would be an explosion? My feeling here? SO BE IT.
